Glad you brought up this topic. Many runners/running RUclipsrs poo-poo the topic, but socks are pretty important! Maybe not so related to performance per se, other than avoiding potential issues with their moisture-wicking / blister-avoiding / no slip / highly durable technologies - but their overall profile is 100% as important to "fit" as the shoe. Some shoes only fit well with thicker socks, or thinner socks. So it's the combination that really determines fit.
I thought sock videos were silly. But I'm here bc I've got a nasty blood blister on my second toe. Thanks to everyone in the comment section - just ordered my first pair of Injinjis. Hopefully they help! I'd like to find a cheaper alternative sock for shorter runs, but I'll use these on longer runs (and until this blister goes away 🤞)
Sock talk talk socks! Merino wool, quick drying (for puddle jumpers) minimal odour, either Smart wool or Feetures. Everyone loves sock talk! 😄🧦 Like a little hug for your feet. 😁😁
@@kofuzi They're good year round, breathable and come in different thicknesses. Excellent travel socks because they don't need to be washed as often. No stinky socks! 🤭🧦
I like right socks too, they’re good in the Texas heat to avoid blisters. But my favorite socks are Injinji, as goofy as the toe socks look they are so comfortable and in my opinion/experience give your toes better ability to splay out naturally
I used to think Nike running socks are expensive but then I realized they usually go on sale at season end, and I was able to buy a few pairs at a bargain. But Balega socks, they are another level of expensive. Still, they are so comfortable that I would buy another one at a heartbeat.
I run in Nike shoes only, but oddly enough I've found that Under Armour socks seem to be my favorite. Very durable, breathable and just the right amount of arch support/cushion.
I usually find that Under Armour base layers, like tights are great because that's where they started. Socks being good makes sense, although I've not tried them personally.
Adding another vote for Injinjis, particularly the lightweight and ultra run models. Since I tried them last year, I can't run in anything else. The feeling of natural splay from the sock is awesome. Blisters are a thing of the past and they make previously miserable rainy runs much more tolerable.
@@kofuzi Not at all. They have socks that breathe better than others too, like most brands. If that's a concern, try the lightweight knit with coolmax.
I really like merino wool. Darn Tough, Smartwool, and Point6. Of the three Darn Tough feels the best made and are very soft. Point6 is cheaper and can feel a little scratchy.
I'm a new runner but been hiking for years, and socks are kind of a big deal among hikers. Y'all runners need to get your feet in Darn Tough socks. Lifetime guarantee, merino wool fabric (moisture wicking and naturally odor-free so you can wear them a couple times before they need a wash), and made in the USA. I love the Endurance series most of the year but run in Hike/Trek series in the winter and Vertex when it's really hot.
As a soccer player, the only socks that produced a positive, significant change were TruSox. They absolutely lock your foot into your boots so that all motion is transferred directly from foot to boot to ball. I tried TruSox as running socks and got horrible blisters. I do really like Balega socks though for running. They are super soft, do not absorb moisture, padded where they need to be, mainly around the achilles, and thinner elsewhere to reduce bulk.
Pretty much the only brand of running socks I use are stance. They are extremely comfortable hold up very well in the wash and I love the colors that they offer.
i tried out a couple of wool socks over the winter. i thought they were ok, but frankly, i may have been put off by the fact that they were blue. i just have a hard time with blue socks or shoes, for some reason.

Smartwool. In different thicknesses and lengths for different workouts (thin for fast training, medium thick for regular days), no show/short for summer and long for winter. I love them because no faffing with L/R specific, but main reason because after a gazillion washes they are still soft to touch. Most socks get stiff or rough over time and no longer comfortable. But these last!
@@kofuzi I used to think it was cool but I never noticed a difference in comfort but did need a difference in sitting my socks in the laundry (two pairs of the same means you always find two L and have to find the R matching.. and even time putting the socks on.. !)
Running socks are a must for me. Cotton socks give me athletes foot. No issues with synthetic material running socks. My faves are by far the Balega Hidden Comfort. I also dig Feetures Merino+ stuff.
kofuzi a lot of Merino socks I’ve found are a little rough feeling. The Feetures ones I have are really soft. They of course discontinued the ones I liked. Not sure if the new ones are all as soft. I have one pair of newer Feetures merino and they aren’t quite the same.
I have tried just about every running sock out there. Wrightsocks is absolutely the best of the best, but I guess it depends on which model/cut you get. I prefer the medium thickness over the thinner ones, and I live in CA. The dual layer is just special compared to all other brands. I won't run over 10+ miles unless I'm on these socks. If its less miles than that, then I guess it doesnt matter what sock you use. If you wanted to go cheap, you could always go the Uniqlo route. Highly affordable and tons of styles, and versatile in terms of when you can wear them. Roadrunnersports drymax brand is also another great choice, but unlike uniqlo, not that great to wear casually if needed since theyre actually made for active sports.
this is not a question for me. My feet develop blisters easily so socks is a must for me. Cotton ones are ok for 10K or 1 hour runs, but above that they cause blisters, so I go with running socks that are not cotton based. On brands, I'm not too picky. As long as they're not cotton they usually works fine for me. So I'm not buying those nikes, adidas, new balance etc socks, cause they're expensive. I wear kalenji socks from decathlon. They have a wide variety of running socks, all works well. But my favourite kalenji socks are the 'kalenji strap' series, because they provide compression in the arches and ankles, but comfortable in the forefoot and toes areas, and different left-right. Highly recommended although they are quite thick. Kalenji have thinner ones also, which are comfortable, and compression socks up to calf height.
Stance quarter height running socks!! Perfect light compression of your arch and enough coverage to make sure your sneaker tongue and heel don't cause any chafing.
Really like the Nike Elite Lightweight 2.0 Quarter socks. A bit pricey but best sock for me. I wear Smartwool crew socks for trail running just for a little more protection from sharp sticks etc. on my ankles. Injiji toe socks are really nice as well but hard to get on...

I have been using for years low cut socks from Nike and starting using Asics and Adidas long running socks since a while ago. I like running shoes to be true to size fit and so I have to use those very thin socks.
INJINJI TOE SOCKS. They are a hassle to fold, and slow to put on. but they are cheap and high quality with a great cut. love feeling my toes splay out in my altra wide toe box. they are made for toe shoes but i wear them in normal shoes. Never had real regular running socks
Haven't tried high end brand socks other than Ininji which I love but I find it hard to pay $15 and up for a pair of socks. Which is why I was very happy when I stumbled upon Adidas Compression socks. They're not as nice as the Ininji's but come close and better yet, a pack of 4 can be found for about the price of a pair of Ininjis.
Great sock review. Btw, u mentioned u primarily wear the calve sleeves for warmth... but have u heard of them actually helping for calf cramp prevention? ... for example at mile 18 of a marathon? Or if u had any anti-cramp tips, that would be super helpful. Thank you.
i think there are two types of cramps, breathing cramps and muscle cramps. for muscle cramps, i suppose compression can help. but i would think that hydration/salt management is more important than compression in that regard (although i suppose the two things are not mutually exclusive)
haha the real question truly is... how does one film b-roll for socks!? funny :) -- had a quick question btw - any chance you could talk to us about why compression wraps for calves are useful? or why compression for even arms, like the way kipchoge wears them, are useful as well?
Therapeutically (and keep in mind I'm no healthcare professional), compression promotes good circulation. It's used to prevent deep vein thrombosis and was previously used by people with cardiac issues or by diabetics and sometimes by pregnant women if they had to fly long distances. Compression while exercising, as I understand it, should help the muscles flush out waste products. But for me, it mainly just keeps me warm. I did pick up a pair of arm sleeves last year. It's good for skin coverage but mine aren't that compressive, so I don't think they do much other than that. Some people think thin compression gear can help with the evaporative processes related to sweating. Maybe we need a video.
Great reviews as always. And I would like to try on the injinji toes socks as they look great for long run and able to prevent blister. Wonder how it really works as I always got wet feets and these socks are not cheap.
I’m still trying to find a sock for this summer. I wore hilly twin skin in the cold months and for my marathon but with a marathon coming up in August I need something thinner I feel, yet still supportive. I’m trialing hilly mono skin and stance currently. I’ll check out Sockmine also
Used to run in cheaper multipack running socks which gave me issues from time to time. Spent a bit more on some Stance crew socks and cant see myself buying anything other than them.
By pure chance (chance meaning I had no clean socks this morning), I went for it without them on my Pegasus 35. I did notice better ventilation from the shoe that I found to be a little warm (I live in Panama, Panama, meaning a cool morning is 86-90 F) so I did enjoy the extra cooling but I could feel the friction on my insoles. This is the first time in 3 years of daily running that i go with no socks, and you just posted this about socks, conspiracy? By the way I use the cheapest compression socks from a Japanese brand called Miniso (I think Chinese posing for Japanese-Korean brand), 2 dollars a pair do the trick
C'mon @kofuzi you don't wear the same socks 2x without washing? I wear CEP Dynamic+ Short socks religiously. For recovery, my go-to's are the CEP RxOrtho+ Plantar Fasciitis sleeves, and Compressport calf sleeves and Compressport full leg sleeves
Are you using the GoPro Fusion? Love the awesome low angles you're able to get. Too bad the resolution is a tad low, but overall worth it for the cool perspectives. Nice footage lately!
i was invited to be an ambassador for Balega this year, but then I backed out of it due to fears that i wouldn't be able to make videos like this. they were very understanding
Honestly if you're spending $275 dollars on a pair of running shoes, getting stocks with better materials for like $20 dollars is a no brainer. You probably get more mileage in a sock than any of your vaporflys. I use stance run socks, look good feel good.
@@kofuzi To each their own I guess, but for me personally, you only know the night and day difference you get when using poor socks is when you eventually try on a great pair!
Sock it to me! I personally have to wear socks that are just above the ankles because the super low cut ones don't protect me from the chaffing the shoe gives me around that area.
@@kofuzi To be fair, I think a big factor for me is that I do a fair bit of fell running. Cheap or expensive, socks tend to go a bit nasty after only a few wears when submersed in bog :(

That's very cheap. I'd love to run without socks. But I don't think I can.
Guess I should do a running sock video.. as my first video then .. i do have some amazing recommendations hahaha .
Is That drone footage??
any advice on socks that dont slip? my feet kinda slip to the front of the shoe and give me black toes.
What do you guys think of compression socks do you think they work?
I generally use Nike Elite cuschioned no-show/ Nike elite lightweight no-show especially in summer, sometimes nike elite quarter
I like them a lot. I just wish they were so expensive.
Why do I see you running in water so often? Many times it is dry just a few feet away. Water makes the shoes heavy and causes blisters.
Are you using the GoPro Fusion? Love the awesome low angles you're able to get. Too bad the resolution is a tad low, but overall worth it for the cool perspectives. Nice footage lately!
Insta360 one x. It can shoot at 100fps, which enables slow motion. But the cost is resolution.
How do you run with a backpack? Doesn’t it chafe?
Balega and Stance are pretty much all I run in.
i was invited to be an ambassador for Balega this year, but then I backed out of it due to fears that i wouldn't be able to make videos like this. they were very understanding
No! I just bought some cheap Asics from Amazon
i also got like a 6 pack from asics ha!
I think a lot of people here have had good experiences
Nike multiplier’s are very good.
I've been wondering if socks make a difference, i always thought socks are socks. I just recently started running so i"m pretty new to this world
i've been a socks are socks guy for a long time. but then i found myself reaching for the Hanes less and less.
What kind of camera do you use to shoot the wide background
insta360 one x. life is too short for multiple cameras in a single run (usually).
Balega enduro. Best fitting socks ever. Whoever disagree is wrong. Whoever agrees is a very nice person
P.S. I love my Injinji toe socks. :)
So many comments for toe socks. Who knew?
wicking socks are very annoying when you take off your shoes and walk across tile surfaces.
hmmm. what do you mean?
Thanks for during this vlog.
I hope it was helpful
What calf sleeves are you using?

Honestly if you're spending $275 dollars on a pair of running shoes, getting stocks with better materials for like $20 dollars is a no brainer. You probably get more mileage in a sock than any of your vaporflys. I use stance run socks, look good feel good.
i hear on the mere dollar amounts, but there are some categories of running products that are more essential than others.
@@kofuzi To each their own I guess, but for me personally, you only know the night and day difference you get when using poor socks is when you eventually try on a great pair!
My favorite place for Poutine is KFC. Hope you still have the Canadian Sox. 😂
Balegas are amazing
Which type do you prefer?
Ribbed and compressive 🤔😎👍
rife with entendres
Sock it to me! I personally have to wear socks that are just above the ankles because the super low cut ones don't protect me from the chaffing the shoe gives me around that area.
that's how my wife is. but she keeps buying low cut or no show socks
Get feetures quarter PF socks if you really want the best. :)
I'll take a look!
Injinji toe socks are my faves :)
toe socks, eh?
@@kofuzi they are like gloves for your feet
Socks are a bit like underwear for me. As long as nothing is dangling out we're all good.
I used to think the same thing
@@kofuzi To be fair, I think a big factor for me is that I do a fair bit of fell running. Cheap or expensive, socks tend to go a bit nasty after only a few wears when submersed in bog :(
only Injinji's, forever
do they only make toe socks?
@@kofuzi Yes I believe so, but they come in different thickness and sizes. Definitely worth a try
Try injini socks kofuzi
Zac beat me to it but don't listen to him, Smoke's is not good. La Banquise in Montreal is the best poutine in the world and most diners in Quebec will beat out Smoke's any day.
I don’t know about La Banquise but in Quebec City it’s Chez Ashton hands down. Probably the best poutine in Canada but you have to run an extra 5 miles to lose the weight gain. 😉
Worth it, I can only imagine
@@jazzy5775 Yeah Ashton is really good but they have the smallest portions! Haha!
CEP Compression socks 🔥
nice. i've never tried those before.
The CEP socks are nice. I prefer their calf sleeves over Smart wool socks. GREAT combination!!!!
I think the MD on those compression socks is for medium, not medical :D
i don't think they're for medical either. but i believe they are a large that I have.
I think the company, which goes by +MD, got their start making diabetic socks.
LIKE 👍 .. I like the socks with all of the logos and colors ✅✔✖❌❤💙💚💟💛💜🖤
Hey, I have those Hanes socks! 😉
I think a lot of people do
Balega hidden comforts and enduro.
Ozzies in New Brunswick, Canada! Oh crap too late...
That's ok. I love hearing about good poutine
Features are the best socks, bottom line
