Hey Cory. Those pencilfish (nannostomus espei) are from french Guyana and Suriname, not Peru. Don't know if it really matters. I got them to breed many years ago with collected rainwater. I was in college so the fry didn't make it. One of my favorite videos.
Just a quick note, at right around 13:26 in the video Cory pans up to the Claro pleco tank. Most of them are in caves but you will see 4 or 5 eggs outside one of the caves. They had just spawned and my guess is that when the female was allowed to leave the cave some of the eggs were pulled out with her. In all I collected up 12 of these eggs, (they are quite large, about 3mm) and put them into an egg tumbler. Two of them fungused and were removed, the other 10 have all hatched and will become baby claro plecos despite them being pulled out of the cave. The male is still sitting on the rest of the clutch of fry.
You guys don't know how much you inspire and motivate me... Every time I get the notification ''Aquarium Co-Op just uploaded a new video'' I get a smile on my face because I know it's going to be a good one! This right here is what I call professional content. It was enjoyable as usual, I watched the unboxing with Dean 3 times now and I still love it! He is lucky to have such a nice looking fish room and I'm sure he spends hours on it each day. No algae, clean glass, you name it. It's insane! Lumpy would be a great name for the Lungfish! Cory and Jimmy, you guys did a great job on filming and editing this. It wish it was longer. I hope in the future, we will see more of his fishroom! I remember a year ago, the quality has increased tremendously. Keep up the good work guys! Love the content!
No as we all have different types of fish that we personally love so it needs tweeking for each of us. But it is a very nice set up. I need racks of ten gallons for killifish with more live cultures to feed fry and adults than he has. I need ponds for my other loves Koi. Still trying to figure a way to make an indoor pond in the basement that my other half will approve ;)
@@johncox8882 this is incredibly late, but most feed stores sell large water troughs (300 gallons+) that make great ponds. Not sure where you’d get a filter though.
6' x 10' cells at Sarasota County jail... I'm sooo glad I'm 5+ years sober and won't be visiting that place anymore...!!! Another great one...! Keep it up...!
That is a awesome setup. I am very envious of the trip and how lucky you were to get those beautiful fish. I just gotta say the healthiest most lush plants I ever grew had 2 inches of gravel with a medium air pump on a under gravel filter 25 years ago in a 55. Literally added a few plants at a time starting a week after setup, never did a water change or fed plants. I have never had plants that nice again,,,, oh and the tank was up and running for 5 years, the filter tray crumbled when I tore down the tank.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Before I die I will have Dean’s rams!! Now, I’m off to tell Joel, you and Dean did a video just to troll him and his guppy failure. 🤣🤣
I shooed everyone out of the house so I could watch this video in peace and quiet. Those Angels Dean brought back from Peru are the most beautiful Angels I've ever seen! So many other great fish - I'll just say WOW!
I prefer the under-gravel filters, as well. They work great and no mess cleaning filter media. Also, if the electric goes off there is no worry about the HOB type filter starting again.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Dean is truly an aquatic inspiration. House hunting (like Cory!) in the bay area right now and already keeping an eye out for a potential future fish room. Can’t wait to see the next video about rams as I am trying my hand breeding them and would to see Dean’s process. Loved the mention about culling as that’s a topic, while unpleasant, needs to happen in order for the hobby to continue. Would also love to see what Dean looks for in his Koi angels. Nice work!
Have been working with a breeding pair of Wild Tefe Discus. Like these, mine hated the glass bottom. I cut ceramic tile to fit the bottom. It took awhile, but now they will actually break the surface when I feed them. Huge difference.
I had a SA lungfish, he was very speckled and his name was Lumpy. He was over 16" when I rehomed him to an aquarist with Monster tanks. Love this video to see all the fish from that earlier video. Thank Dean for sharing with us, I always learn something new when you have him on. I assume you are using a new camera, I think the video is super professional.
I gotta say that would be awesome if Dean also went on the Peru trip. I totally cannot wait for that video. Oh hey Jimmy...Im with ya about that humidity...oooohf...That would just about be a deal breaker for me too LOL I cant stand it
Hey, I decided to make this account for all my aquatic content so I subbed from this channel and will be keeping up with your channel from here now. Can't wait to see this unboxing
A while back Jimmy was showing off his skills on his channel doing some cinematic stuff. I kind of jokingly told him I wanted a cinematic beginning, he does amazing work as you all can see, Cory did well in hooking up with him!
Dean can use a primer to make sure the silicone doesnt release from the tile, (retired dow corning here), so use something like a 2 part epoxy to adhere to the tile, let that cure then apply the silicone...
So why won't the silicone stay stuck to the slate over time? Is it because eventually the becomes completely saturated with water? I find it lasts about 8 months. Wouldn't there be the same issue with the epoxy staying stuck to the slate. Someone said to try a hot glue gun and it would stay, but haven't tried that yet.
the tile leaches and outgases various compounds kind of like wood, I've used epoxy to adhere silicone to wood for a porch threshold and it worked great, Believe me it'll work. give it a try.Hot glue might work but I think you'd have the same issue besides hot glue oxidizes over time even in water and becomes brittle unlike silicone.

What’s the best food for guppies and bettas that they actually like ? 🦦

I’d love to see the culling process you go through, why you cull some fish and not others
I cannot get on-board with culling fish for aesthetic reasons. I thought we were keeping fish because we love fish?

Third time watching this video. I can look at this fish room all day.
I prefer the under-gravel filters, as well. They work great and no mess cleaning filter media. Also, if the electric goes off there is no worry about the HOB type filter starting again.

a lot of people have fish rooms that look kind of..well not so nice. I love how neat and tidy Dean's fish room is.
Thanks for sharing, Dean. Beautiful set-up you've got there. BTW, I like the name, Lumpy, too.
I had a SA lungfish, he was very speckled and his name was Lumpy. He was over 16" when I rehomed him to an aquarist with Monster tanks. Love this video to see all the fish from that earlier video. We've had these cameras for a couple of months now, just that we took the time to edit this longer than normal. Thanks for noticing :)
I feels like I need to upgrade my filtration system of all my tanks after watching this video.
Dean needs to go to Peru and a bonus would be Jimmy!!! Do it! Do it!
So jealous of this fishroom
love the intro keep up the good work and thanks for all the help
Dean has some cool looking stuff!
Forget the Tide Pod Challenge, it's the Sera O-Nip tab challenge 32:07
Lol!
I love these videos.... I think you could visit once a month and learn something every time.
I totally could, Dean being available that often is unlikely though :(
Love both of these videos!
great to see this update. the lung fish stands out, but I can't believe how hardy angel fish are
Awesome fish room!
Dean could teach a masters class in awesome.
Thumbs up for the intro!
I gotta say that would be awesome if Dean also went on the Peru trip. I totally cannot wait for that video. Oh hey Jimmy...Im with ya about that humidity...oooohf...That would just about be a deal breaker for me too LOL I cant stand it
Dean is pro goals!!!
Hey, I decided to make this account for all my aquatic content so I subbed from this channel and will be keeping up with your channel from here now. Can't wait to see this unboxing
Dean - please go back to Peru, bring back tons of fish & do a live unbox reveal :-)
Those macro shots at the opening! Hot dog they were awesome.
A while back Jimmy was showing off his skills on his channel doing some cinematic stuff. I kind of jokingly told him I wanted a cinematic beginning, he does amazing work as you all can see, Cory did well in hooking up with him!
When dean said the Fluval thing 😂
Lungie, Lumpy...maybe Lum? LOL! I got caught up in the fish name. Enjoyed this video!
Very impressive GBR set ups. Dean is the man!
Love the longer fish room tours! Deans fish room is amazing!
I love seeing his fish room so much! So inspiring, love you Dean! Thanks Cory!
What an amazing display. I was thinking about getting back into the hobby and my first thought was guppies. Now it's my only thought lol.
Those wild greens are really nice, they would absolutelly glow in a biotop tank. Are there any videos/pics/blogs from Deans collecting in Peru?
Man I love this channel it's always interesting
Dang 51 mins sure flew by. More Dean!
Well worth being exhausted to watch (boo time change). Thanks gents!!
Cool update!

think of the silicone like a coating or a paint that needs the RIGHT substrate to bond to
Evidence throughout the whole video that fish do well on nutrifin and tetra. I'm a big fan of SERA food as well.
My very first filter was an Eheim undergravel filter, 35 years ago, looking exactly the same (only green).
This is just awesome to watch
The fish are spooked by Cory’s shirt!!!
