    That buckle looks like it would rub against your foot when cinched down, maybe not the best choice of buckle for this application? I would think the the buckle should somehow sit on top of a neoprene strap, so there’s no friction between the buckle and skin.

      We've been selling these for many years. Several companies make a similar/same product and we haven't had any negative feedback about the buckle placement. Instep is not a good place for the buck because: A. It would grind into the top of your foot if you ride dropknee B. It would create drag on the top of your foot when you prone ride.
