I really enjoyed the series personally; it was very fun to watch! When we're in parallel universes, I am okay with details that are not historically accurate, like the races of historical characters or the more modern reactions to events. I find it all very interesting, even. You can't really complain about stuff not making sense historically when you have characters literally changing into animals. 🤣

Thanks for your review, I agree My Lady Jane is a fun series on Prime. The What IF history is different makes the story more interesting and unpredictable, along with adding some fantasy elements. We has some familiar people from history but their journey may not line up the same as actual history, along with good acting and great writing of an emotional journey.

Erm no mention of the race swapping of historical people? King Edward and Elizabeth were really not black yet the film makers chose that Ethnicity to play the roles. That’s twisting history too far. There are plenty of fictional characters in it that could have been played by people of colour. Also notice that Mary who is kind of the villain is was played by a white woman.

Why would I mention it when it’s in the trailer and I didn’t care? The entire story is fictionalized. They literally have people who turn into animals.

Its a fictional fantasy alternate story relax
The show is set in a world where some people turn into animals
Its clearly not meant to be real world history
I doubt race even exists in the show like we belive neither Bess or Edward are referred to as bkack at all in the context of the show
does black even exist in that world lol

Also notice that Jane who is the lead hero is played by a white woman
You cant have your cake and eat it too only picking facts you dont like
Jane being white completely destroys the race narrative you want to create since we have two white women as the hero and villain respectively
In the show there is no race beyond Verity (human)and Ethian (shapeshifters)in the show
Edward and Bess are never referred to as black either so that race distinction might not exist in the shows world
This is a fantasy series based on alternative history
Alternative history thus also includes what if X looked different from what they looked like in real life
Thats the entire point of alternate history not to be exactly like history

For a fictional story, it does not matter if characters are black or white, and they don't emphasize this at all. Edward's acting was very good for the role. I thought it odd at first but for this story of fiction, it is no big deal.
