Donna - I fell in love with him too, and I'm a 65 year old straight bloke from the north-east of England. Always loved the Doobie Brothers. Wonderfully unique voice and vocal range. Lovely video again, ladies! 🙂
I saw the doobie brothers live in january. They had micheal mcdonald with them as it was their 50th anniversary tour and damned if that 75 plus year old man didn't sound the exact freaking same as he did in this video. they were awesome live.
Michael McDonald has a new memoir out called What A Fool Believes that he co-wrote with his friend and Mad About You actor Paul Reiser. Would recommend.
On a linear time line of the band from it's founding , this was the last iteration of the band before they would break up in '82 or '83 , for several years before the band reformed with original singer Tom Johnston back in the fold . He sang lead on their big hits from the 70's , "Long Train Running" , "Listen to the Music" & "China Grove"
There former lead singer prior to Michael McDonald joining them was Guitarist Tom Johnston and they had a number of hits with him. Micheal McDonald left and Tom Johnston returned to the band although Michael still makes occasional guest appearances, he has carved out a great solo career. The Doobie’s have created many different sounds across different genres!
Growing up in the 1960s and 70s I listen to The Doobie Brothers a friend of mine and his brother was a roadie with him in the seventies neat side note they got the name cuz they were sitting around a campfire getting stoned and one of the guys said hey stop Bogart in the joint in pass the Doobie Brother lol
The Doobies have 2 different sounds, the first 5 albums with Tom Johnston Lead Vocals/ Guitar & Pat Simmons Lead Vocals/ Guitar that were a bit more rockin and after Tom’s health issues where he had a step away from the band, and they brought in Michael McDonald on Lead Vocals/Keys along with Pat Simmons, Michael brought a more soulful sound I personally prefer the Tom Johnson era, but that’s me. 😜
I saw the What's Happening show and they we're singing...Takin it To The Streets ( if you react to it do the audio version.. the live one from this show is different)
Back in the 90's in L.A., I was friends with Keith, drummer in the Doobie Brothers. He was a really great guy. He had a nice little home recording studio behind his house and I played piano on a couple of his song demos, plus we also wrote a couple of songs together. It was pretty exciting for me, absolutely. Sadly, he died about 12 years later.
Donna seems to fall in love with a lot of rock stars, lol. I love Kathy mimicking mom’s hands!
One of the best bands ever. Great reaction! More Doobie Brothers please.
What a Great reaction of Donna as she recognized Michael again...:-D :-D

Also With Little Feat on "Red Streamliner" 🙂
Don't forget Toto! 🎶

Thats the video we used on my friends video disco in the 80’s and yes it cut off a little bit at the end. There is another vid at some award show.
The Doobie brothers are from san jose California and y'all should react to China Grove a real rocker sung by Patrick Simmons
Play… I keep forgetting for Donna!!!
From the 70;s I always liked "Black Water" (before Michael MacDonald)
I wonder if that TV show was What's Happenin'. They were on a 2 part episode and they did perform Takin' It To The Streets on the episode.
Exactly what I was thinking.

There was a lot of cross-pollination between The Dooby Brothers and Steely Dan.
