      You just totally sold me on this guitar. I did not know where to go to look for a good beginner's guitar, so I randomly came across your video, and after hearing your review by both you playing the guitar, and what you said, I just decided to take the chance. Purchased the concert version of this guitar, now I hope that either I, or it doesn't fail me! Lol!

      do you think the FS800 and FG800 are very similar to each other sound-wise? I'm really liking the sound of the FS800 according to this video, but there's a local bundle deal for the FG800 as of right now that I'm considering

    • @punkyagogo
      @punkyagogo 4 года назад +1

      Kathy Le The FG is the dreadnaught-shape while the FS is the concert-shape version. If there’s any difference, the FG will most likely be louder and a bit boomier. Both are solid choices!

    • @markwillride
      @markwillride 5 дней назад

      @@kathyle4573 I have a completely stock FG800J (not the non J mode) and only have about 3 weeks of guitar experience. In this video, the FS version seems brighter and the bottom end is clearer. Note that the FS version has a 25" scale length where the older FG models have a 25 9/16" scale length. So the frets are slightly farther apart on older FG800 and all of the current FG8xx models except the J which is the same as the FS models. They show the string spacing at 10mm on the FS and FG800J and 11mm on the other FG8XX models. My pastor has an FGX800C and the string spacing measures the same as mine at the nut but is wider at the saddle. All of these models are listed to have a 43mm nut.

    I have one of these, it is the best guitar you can buy for under $500. I tweaked mine a little. I added a bone nut and saddle and that brightened it up noticably. I also added brass bridge pins that helps it resonate a little longer. With the miles thick clear coat the sound board is a little stiff.
    I also lowered the action for a better feel. The Yamaha strings are really good, but seemed to wear out fast, that didn't ring as well after a month.
    Other all a great guitar for anyone, I recommend it and with a little pro set up work it will compete with guitars ten times the price.

    • @fndguitar
      @fndguitar  5 лет назад

      Yes, i've had a couple of people suggest those mods now, will probably give it a go soon enough and do a follow up video. Agree on the strings, the factory ones where really perfect for the guitar but they where dead after a couple of weeks. Have tried a few different sets, currently have some elixir's on it but will be looking for something else this time. What are you using? Cheers!

      FNDGuitar I using Martin silk and steel ultra light on this guitar. I had light on it, but bought ultra lights by mistake. I put them on and it gave it an electric guitar feel. I noticed no difference in sound, It is a little faster and I can play longer. I also added a D'addario sound hole cone just to try it.

    I bought this model the FS800T Vintage Tint when it first came out at the end of 2016.
    I also bought the FS830 Tobacco Burst in 2018. Still have them both.
    The FS800 sounds better then the higher priced FS830 and as the spruce top ages, the FS800 sounds better and better every year, where as the FS830 hasn't improved at all.
    I also have a Martin Dreadnought, a Takamine Dreadnought, and an Epiphone VS220S-VS.

    The FS and FG are some of the best budget guitars around, maybe ever made. For mahogany guitars, the Ibanez Artcore line sound great, are inexpensive but have great specs like grover tuners for a bit more $ than the Yamaha. Sire has a new line of all solid wood acoustics at budget prices that, when they become widely available, are going to throw a wrench into the budget guitar market, they sound incredible. Great playing, dig the jazz standards like Autumn Leaves, you even played the proper chord substitutions. Thanks.

      Couldn't agree more. Ibanez make incredible guitars in the Artcore range, I have been tempted to pick up a jazz box from Ibanez for a while now! Thank you so much for the review. I must agree that this video is the best I have seen due to a wholesome coverage of almost all aspects one beginner might picture in minds about their own musical adventures . In addition it cover the features most guitar reviews have, as well as a showcase of different music styles which most other reviews do not offer. I have been bombed with ads and sort since the internet AI captured my passion in guitar. I recently bought a used fs800 in canada, it is quite a bargain for its almost new condition, price and accessories including a decent bag. It is not easy to find this model new or used in canada. It turned out to be a best fit for my size of built. I did not have the chance to try or feel at a store since the quarantine, the only thing I knew was the regular size was not comfortable to handle. I would not have bought it if I was not informed that I won a scholarship award at school. Anyways, I made up my mind at last. This guitar sounds beautifully, I am amazed that My ears could tell the difference from the guitars I used to practice on. I have not discovered many new videos from your channel, I assume that you are occupied with your work and life. If by any chance, you are willing to share your experiences of learning which lead you where you are now, I would be mostly grateful. Most guitar teaching videos are lack of bond or pictures relate to learners who have various pursuit of music. For instance, teachers do not tell students what kind of music they can play by exercise their methods and these methods and training are mostly random. Learners who know exactly the type of music they are interested in can not see what they will be able to accomplish down the path. I know your music is what I dream of myself being to be able to play, I know the picture in my head, and I hope you can share more details and stories about how you manage to get the skills. Thanks a million.

    Usually fingerstyle guitars have a 1.75 inch nut width. This has a narrow nut, so why is this guitar suited for fingerstyle?

    • @delplaya5
      @delplaya5 4 года назад +1

      It has a short scale that is why. Not all fingerstyle guitars have a 1.75, some have narrower like this. It's preference. If you prefer wider, then look elsewhere. Good luck finding one that plays and sounds well for $199.Otherwise you get a smaller OM sized body and a shorter scale with less string tension which is suited for...you guessed it...fingerstyle.

    Hi Dan, I've subscribed to your page as I really enjoy your tutorial on the maj7 and min7 chord. Actually after watching you, I;m tempted to buy this FS800. My question is, despite the nice sound and build quality, how is the action of the guitar? heard that yamaha FG (and FS) series have high actions that will affect the playability (for beginner especially). Is that true? Thanks Mate!

    • @fndguitar
      @fndguitar  5 лет назад

      Hi Jeremy, thank you so much for subscribing! I will say that the FG I tried was a bit more tricky to play than the FS, but I find that OM shape guitars like the FS are easier to play in general than a Dreadnaught style guitar like the FG. Action wise all of the FS's I tried where great, I would always recommend you go to the store and pick one out and if you think it needs any adjustments you can ask the store to do it for you (you'll also be able to compare FG to FS). If you have to order it online you can still take it to a professional to have it set up if you think there's a problem. One of my students bought his from Amazon and it came set up well out of the box with good action. Let me know if you have any more questions or if you need help getting started on the guitar! Cheers.

I tried an FS800 again this evening after just purchasing a used Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo (online) and was thinking, man maybe I should have just gotten an FS800. Hey buddy, that’s fret buzz, here it’s because i didn’t quite hit the note properly - i was too much on the fret. If it happens all the time you could try raising your action and making sure your frets are level. It could also be bridge or nut issues - tbh i always take my guitars to a professional, but if that’s not an option there are videos online you can try to learn from.

      Adam Egbaria the FG is fuller as it’s got more resonance in the bigger body. If you wanted to strum open chords it’s gonna sound big and powerful. The FS is gonna sound more balanced, so you can play single note stuff and it’s going to sound punchy like your chords.
      Open chord stuff - FG
      Single note stuff/fingerstyle - FS
      That’s just my opinion though, i know it might be a bit tricky to actually test them out right now, but that’s always your best bet.

    how do you think this compares to Taylors Mini GS guitars?

    • @fndguitar
      @fndguitar  6 лет назад +3

      They're definitely good guitars. The Taylor will be even smaller than this one, both body and neck length. You'll probably be looking at marginally better construction in the Taylor, better strings out of the box (last time I bought a Taylor it came with some nice Elixirs) and a brighter sound. The Taylor is also electro-acoustic right?
      The Yamaha should give you with a more balanced rounded sound and will probably be quite a bit cheaper unless you've got a good deal on a used one?
      I played both at the store before settling on the Yamaha down to the fact this was a better $/value ratio and the smaller Taylor would have taken a bit of adjustment to get used to.

    • @fndguitar
      @fndguitar  5 лет назад

      Don't worry, keep going and i'm sure it will click. Your old strings will be duller - and hide mistakes well. With more clarity and projection the good gets projected, but so do the little mistakes - which we all make! The nice thing is, if you keep practicing on the FG800 you'll be able to hear those mistakes better and be able to identify and fix the problems. Failing that - keep playing and your strings will become more dull over time and maybe it will be more comfortable for you.
      I preferred duller strings when I was starting out, there's nothing wrong with it - whatever's best for you!

    • @fndguitar
      @fndguitar  5 лет назад +2

      Hi! Nylon strings are lighter than steel and so you have to press down less. Honestly, it's not that much easier than playing steel strings if your guitar is set up correctly.
      Guitarists who have been playing for a long time would be playing nylon strings because they prefer the sound, not necessarily because it's easier to play.
      If you're new to guitar i'd say the most important thing is to learn on the strings you like the sound of more - if you think nylon strings sound better play them. If you think steel strings sound better then learn on them, even if it takes a little longer to build your finger strength up.
      Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions.
