The NBA has been and always will be about one thing. Getting buckets. And from Wilt Chamberlain to Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, the game's greatest players of all-time have also been among the NBA’s best scorers. Let’s take a look at 10 NBA legend’s highest scoring games.

Tim Duncan could easily scored more and more. But he was an extremely team driven player, from his first NBA game, so he scored when it was needed.

As talented as he is, I'm still miffed KD hasn't cracked 60 points in a game even once on his career.

In 2k mycareer I scored 164 points 25 assists and 18 rebounds with 12 steals and 4 blocks, I also got a Quad-Double, best game of my career.

Kareem is OFTEN mentioned in the GOAT conversation - and in a poll of NBA PLAYERS some years back was #2 mentioned player to MJ.

@@pasandesilva2295 Kareem has the highest total points - but that's over a longer career than almost anyone else.
On Points PER GAME, Kareem is fairly high but only 16'th for now (Damien Lillard is 17'th by .03 PPG and seems to be closing).
He also ranks quite high on both the official AND the unofficial "total blocks" list, but again benefits some from longevity.

For a bit of perspective, Wilt doesn't just own THE highest scoring game in NBA history.
He owns *5 of the 7* highest - Kobe's 81 being #2 on the list then Wilt has *4* games between 72 and 78 points while David Thompson at 73 manages a 3 way tie for 4'th - with Wilt and Wilt.
Wilt also owns 15 of the top 23 (4 way tie, Kobe's second-highest game plus Wilt Wilt and Wilt at 65 points for 20'th).
33'd (62 points) is almost funny - 9 way tie, Kobe's third highest game, Carmelo, TMac, and *6* Wilt entries.
Wilt has ANOTHER 6'peat at 61 points (though Jordan, Damien Llilard and Hardin all managed doubles there) but that's the FIRST multi-Wilt entry that isn't a MAJORITY of the entry.

Actually he didn't play 48 minutes in that game but he did play the whole game. After he scored 100 the crowd stormed the court and there was still some time left in the game but it was less than a minute.

And note that Wilt did this WITHOUT AN OVERTIME.
It's also no shock that his team was force-feeding him - those Warriors teams weren't very good OTHER than him, there's a reason he averaged over 50 PPG one of his seasons on the Warriors.
They gave him that ball because fans started saying to get Wilt to 100. There's an article dedicated to why its not as impressive as people think. Wilt didn't even shoot 60% from the field. He shot 57% which is not enough to justify 63 shot attempts.
Wilt played against the worst team in the league during that game aswell so while his team wasny great according to you (which isn't true) neither was his opponent.

It was 6%+ BETTER than Wilt's AVERAGE shooting for that season (50.6%) - note that he had LED THE LEAGUE the previous season with a 50.9% mark and led the league the FOLLOWING season with a 52.8% mark - and Walt Bellamy was the league leader with a 51.9% mark in the season that game happened.
The NBA RECORD BEST FG% for *ANY SEASON* was only 49.2%, that season it was *41.5%*.
"not enough to justify" is A FLAT OUT LIE, Wilt was shooting better than the LEAGUE LEADERS for 3 seasons CENTERED on that one - and he happened to BE the league leader in 2 of those 3.
The Knicks WERE handicapped that game by their starting center being out sick - but they still had 2 future Hall of Fame members on that team (one in his prime).
Worst record in the league, but STILL won 25 (compare to some recent seasons with teams not even winning and a few barely over 10!).
The 100 is no less impressive than Kobe managing 81 in a game where HE was fed the ball a lot too.

Kobe shot 61% from the field and 54% from 3. Dude was crazy hot. His number of shot attempts was justified.
IMO if somebody is shooting below 60% from the field overall he shouldn't be getting the ball lile crazy. Yes, Wilt was efficient by his standards but he'd been more effocient before. He had multiple 70 point games where he shot 60%+ however having 63 shot attempts when shooting below 60% from the field is just not happening today. Its not just if he's efficient but rather if he's efficieng enough to justify the absurd number of shot attempts. 57% is amazing seasonwide because players have ups and downs however its not terrific on a single game basis.
Wilt played the worst team in the league. He didn't just face their second option center. He faced their 3rd option as center because the other 2 were out the entire game. 2 HOFs? Other than the fact that the basketball HOF isn't exactly a telling accomplishment for actual level of play there's the fact that were they guarding Wilt? No. They weren't. That's like saying Michael was guarded by David Robinson. He wasn't.
So Wilt was given a 6'10, 220 pound center who wasn't that skilled to bully. Oh but it gets better. That center fouled out after 20 minutes and so Wilt was left to be guarded by the the Knicks 3rd option at center. This is Wilt in his absolute prime being guarded by a 6'9, 210 pound dude. Being constantly fed the ball, having the crowd on his side and the team as a whole is terrible. There's also no real defensive schemes to contain players either.
Imagine if Michael at his peak played the worst team in the league, with no defensive schemes, was constantly fed the ball and was facing the absolute worst position player on that team. What would happen?

He had the highest shooting percentage, THERE WAS NO 3 POINT SHOT, why feed someone that was NOT hitting better?
Yes, his efficiency DID justify most of the number of shots he took (I'm not questioning he was fed a lot BECAUSE he was scoring!).
But even YOU admit he wasn't facing a strong defender - when the opposing team has a weakness, ANY SANE TEAM WILL EXPLOIT THAT WEAKNESS.
Don't compare the last 15 or so years and the "help the offensive player" rules that INFLATE today's offensive stats BECAUSE THE DEFENSE IS FORCED TO BE A JOKE.
More than 60% FG% IN WILT'S ERA was bloody RARE - even over 50% for a CENTER was a RARE PLAYER, perhaps 3 a season.
YOU brought up team - HOF players usually help their TEAM.
By the way - Philly won the game, but the KNICKS scored 147 points IN A LOSING EFFORT in that game, despite the much slower pace of that era.
Not too shabby for the "worst team in the league" that didn't have their starting center AT ALL vs the most dominant scoring player of all time in his PEAK SEASON that they managed to stay in reach for most of the game.

Wilt Chamberlain scored more that over 50 like 100 times, probably got more than 20 rebounds in all those games too, so yeah, not so much.
