Today we remember one of the darkest days in our history. A day that nobody has truly gotten over. We remember the life of Edna Cintron, believed to be the woman who found herself in the middle of all the chaos, with her battle for survival shown across many videos and photos. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones. May the thousands who perished that day forever rest in peace. You are never forgotten.
A huge thank you to all who risked their lives capturing footage and taking photos as events unfolded. Thank you to all who took their time and dedicated themselves to researching those photos and videos. Your work gives us a better understanding of certain things.

The Museum dedicated to all the lives lost on the 11th of September 2001 has a section where all the faces of those who passed in the towers are all over the walls. Photographs are not allowed in that section. On a blown up large canvas is the picture of the North Tower after being hit, with "the waving woman" holding on, captured by Roberto Rabanne. The 9/11 Museum and all of the people who came together to create this memorial and everything in the Museum acknowledge that the woman seen in the hole in the North Tower was later "identified as Edna Cintron." If you go, you'll see this for yourself as it's written right beside that photo. I also enourage anyone who visits that exhibit to use the touchscreen systems to search for Ednas name. You'll see more than 30 pictures of Edna and her loved ones you won't ever see anywhere else. Memories captured and donated to the museum by William Cintron. The hard work to identify many is still ongoing. If you end up visiting and seeing what I've mentioned, let me know in the comments. Rest In Peace Edna Cintron. NEVER forgotten.

This was a lovely, informative piece. My father, Steven P. Morello, was also a Marsh & McLennan employee who was killed on September 11th. I researched impact zones, studied videos and maps, and made hundreds of phone calls, trying to figure out where my dad would've been, and if he went quickly. Strangely, your video has the best footage I've seen of the impact zone, and the fact that there were actually people who survived the initial impact. It is an uncomfortable truth. One I greatly feared and hoped didn't happen. I had hoped my dad was killed instantly. And as you've shown, that may not have happened. But this is an important piece of history. And it shouldn't be watered down just to ease our pain. Thank you for making this.

Rip to your father. He most likely wouldn't have suffered for long. And he could've easily died instantly. I hope my condolences are ok. My mother was in Manhattan at the time and I remember being in middle school scared and not knowing what was happening. But that doesn't compare what you have to deal with.
Does researching it help? The whole thing haunts me. I could see the smoke from all the way in Queens. It gives me a better sense of control but I didn't lose anyone.

My mother was an accountant and worked for Carr Futures on the 92nd floor of the Trade Center. Two weeks before the attacks, she switched her schedule with a co-worker due to said co-worker living in New Jersey and thought this would work out better in her favor. Prior to the switch, my mother used to leave Staten Island at 0500 to catch the ferry and commute to the Trade Center for 0715. That morning, she decided to go in early and was on her way to work when the attacks happened. Her co-worker that she swapped schedules with, along with numerous traders and fellow co-workers in her department passed away. I was told that a few who were trapped in an elevator called my mother so she can tell their loved ones goodbye for them. My mother survived both the 93 bombing, 9/11 and has been to almost two dozen wakes. This tragedy took a toll on her the first couple of years, due to the fact that people she worked with for almost 20 years are dead. Thankfully, she has gotten better over the period of time. My sister and I knew her co-workers since we were little children. I think about them from time to time. May they all rest in Heaven.........

Surviving the initial carnage to spend the final hour of her life a helpless, close-up observer of human suffering - she would have heard the voices and cries of the dying in the wreckage, seen people jumping, the fireball from the second impact, and the collapse of the south tower all at close proximity. As a 42 yr old freshly divorced mom of a 15yr old, who is my only child and basically my soulmate (we are very very close), I dread the day he leaves for college because it will likely mark the beginning of aloneness for me, too. Some say “oh, you’ll find someone else, Rachel” but what if I don’t? No one knows. I could easily die alone and no one would miss me, except my son God bless his sweet heart. Luckily, I own a very successful business and was able to purchase a brand new home for us to live in post-divorce, but that seems of little consequence when faced with eternal loneliness.

I mean for a moment think like her!! You survived the initial crash. Then while waiting for your rescue, you hear a loud boom in the background but you are in the opposite side of the building!! You see huge ball of fire, papers flying, debris are falling. But you have no clue that the second building was hit. You wait for an hour to witness another tragedy, you could hear the loud boom and after few moments you see a cloud of dust circling the building.
A lot of things must have going through her mind maybe, did WTC fall? Why did it fall? Was it a deliberate attack? Was it not an accident? She must have thought, that this is the end of the world!! It's so scary!! She must be really brave to hang on to her dear life after everything she saw and experienced that day!! I am saying this because she was last seen in North Tower few moments before the tower fell. Rest well dear Edna!!❤

When I turned a page and saw her standing in the gaping hole seemingly unscathed and waving at the helicopter I was so shocked. That morning I left that page of the book open and placed it in the kitchen where I knew my roommate Susan would see it. We both thought it the most tragic picture to come out of Sept 11th. I've never heard or seen a book or collection of the actual graphic imagery that DOES exist of that day. But there's no such book. It's very very hard to find the worst images from 9/11. The most graphic images that day are those taken on the plaza, street and nearby parking garages of remains of plane passengers. You should think of this as if a giant took a handful of 100 humans and threw them through a fan..... they weren't "vaporized" in the explosion. We were spared the horror by the collapse of the towers and all the chaos after the plane impacts.

It was brief but I existed. I just rollerbladed around all summer before this happened listening to my Aaliyah cassette in my dad’s portable player. The player was yellow and my second hand rollerblades were fuchsia. No helmet just getting scraped up and drinking from the hose. After 9/11 I swear everyone thought about death more. Parents were watching closer after it. Maybe that was my experience because I’m from a port city on the east coast and everyone feared those would be the targeted areas at the time.

I don't think Edna thought the towers were about to collapse, and possibly might not have been aware the 2nd tower hit, had collapsed. Yeah, she might have seen all the debris and so on flying around, but would she have equated that to what we know happened? Maybe wasn't even aware the 2nd tower had been hit in the same way. Maybe wan't even aware the first tower hade been hit by an airplane. And probably expected to be rescued.

Plus just because she was being filmed did she think "oh God I'm just going to be a meme on the internet.." because the internet was in an infancy stage, speaking this is even before RUclips. Memes didn't exist. People only used the internet back then very seldomly. It wasn't at all what it is today. Atleast she is remembered and that is what immortalizes us. Her story, she is remember for who she was. A person who fought the hardest day anyone could imagine. And you can't begin to imagine what it must have been like to live an hour and fourty two minutes like that. To watch the South tower collapse next to you for what felt like in reaching distance.

Edna was so strong and brave to be able to hold on for the entire event. At times you could see her struggling to stand, probably due to the injuries she would have had, combined with exhaustion. And imagine how scary and sickening it would feel to be standing that high in the air, any wrong movement could potentially send you to your death, and you can see helicopters that aren't able to save you no matter how much you scream. Even if Edna somehow found a way to get out of that area of the building, there wouldn't have been a stairwell or anything so this poor woman was basically doomed from the start. She died shortly before her 47th birthday as well.

As a native New Yorker, this literally made me cry. My titi was in BOTH attacks, the second attack, she was on the lower levels. Went home thankfully over the bridge with one shoe, covered in cuts, debris, and ash. A woman helped her and gave her a shoe to continue walking and they walked together, thankfully alive, and mostly unharmed, my uncle and cousin out in the city not too far from it all, my mom, dad and aunt… it pains me to know so many lost their lives and lost their loved ones without any real closure. To be that kid again, at home watching the smoke from brooklyn and the ashes falling from the sky, confused about what it was… to only go home and cry in fear if my mom was coming back.
This story is so sad…. It will never, not hit hard.

Completely agree that it is wild to me that the severity of this day and what it literally was (tangibly and intangibly) to be an American that day (and blessed by chance to be one not affected by death or direct pain).
I mean..... it was truly the only time I really felt the depth of what it meant to have "fellow Americans" and to be in unity with them.
It was as if there was NOTHING to say but this topic, all day- every day and everyone was OK with it. We were all together in grief and disbelief. So many beautiful babies and precious children lost and the loss of adult human life is much greater in number but not in pain.
I hope to fucking god the many truths and messages of this day ring in the hearts of us forever.
And also need to mention how deeply moving and comforting to know that the bulk of global society stood in support of unity in spirit and in deed. Many people the world over made this the best outcome it could be as far as their love and help go. 💞

I didn't know anyone personally who was tragically lost in that attack but I do mourn their loss as if i had known them. It's so hard to explain but if you were an adult when this happened, you know what I'm trying to say. Her story is heartbreaking.

I always wondered what happened to the young black girl (could have been a teenager) that was sobbing while watching them jump and screaming “they’re jumping!”. She never left my thoughts, I always wondered how she turned out.

Adding Edna's story while including the video segments, kept it from becoming just another video of destruction. You put a human name and face to the tragedy, and a love story too, and I kept hoping (even though I knew it wasn't possible) that her husband somehow found her, dazed, confused, covered in dust out on the street. This was excellent, and so well written. Kudos to you man.

@@hildeschmid8400I remember reading about the man who jumped in the white shirt. There was a possibility that he was identified but the family of that man was furious that anyone would suggest he would jump. They said it was cowardly and their father wasn't a coward. Maybe the man in the photo was him, maybe it wasn't. I don't know if anyone ever found out for sure. Some people do have a strong reaction to being told their loved one jumped even though their only choices were to jump or die from smoke inhalation, burn to death, or be crushed in a collapse. It's hard to say what I would do in that situation but I understand choosing to jump.

Nobody is ignoring anybody who suffered or died that horrific day. There were those on the planes that crashed into the towers, but also those who struggled to regain control of the plane that crashed nose straight down into the field in PA, those on the plane that hit the Pentagon, all those inside the towers, in the Pentagon, and all the rescuers. Those that jumped had zero choice. I think if fire was approaching and the heat increasing with no means of escape, I think nobody could withstand the pain of the searing heat. I think there was no choice in the matter to be made. People that are found dead inside a burnt building, did not decide to suffer through it and succumb to the burning heat. If found inside a burnt building, it was only because they were overcome by smoke inhalation and heat first trying to escape.
