Fr. Dumb blokes always be utilizing “cost per wear” to justify expensive luxury purchases. There’s a reason why they are luxury you bozos, it’s for that initial emotion 😂
As a Canadian who lives and grew up in the northernmost city over a million in North America (actually one of the places Errolson Hugh went to school) to parents who were always really into hiking and camping, I can say with certainty that the trinity of Columbia, The Northface and Arcteryx are all brands that you will find in like 99% of outdoorsy people's wardrobes here and for good reason. In fact they were all largely considered 'dad brands' here up until pretty recently for their ubiquity in the camping world. Anyways my favourite jacket and most of my favourite pieces I own are actually And Wander so I'm glad you mentioned them! Great looking and high quality stuff, and there's a store within walking distance of me that annually blows it out at like -60% off so I've acquired a few nice bags and such that way as well.
I almost never do these bits of engagement bait…but what the hell…my favourite jackets right now are; 1. Chester Perry Metropolis series Co-Ted Explorer 2. Chester Perry Metropolis Tracery PRILFT. (Both have really interesting GD processes and the way they catch the light is sublime.) 3. Left Hand Elvo anorak 4. ST-95 Drogue smock 2.0 5. RÆBURN air brake anorak 6. SS23 Stone Island taupe/rust ice jacket. The thing is absolutely beautiful if not particularly wearable day to day. 7. The Vollebak Full Metal Jacket is amazing aesthetically. I feel like an astronaut every time I put it on. 8. The RÆBURN x Timberland puffer parka, it’s a stone cold banger and I wore it almost the entire winter. Notable mention goes to the SS23 Nike Tech-Pack Gore-Tex field jacket. Been wearing it almost a year now and it’s incredible for everyday use.
I picked up a Haven bellum (basically M65 style) jacket in white goretex pro and it looks sharp as hell. And its for some reason half price of the black version. It got marked down like $100 like a week after I bought it and I emailed haven and they gave me an in store credit for the price difference. Shout out to Haven!
4:30 I’m glad you’re putting this info out there. I do some copywriting for a small eco-friendly technical womens outerwear brand in Seoul, and I’ve since learned that fake YKK zips are indeed a thing. Not only are they worse in quality, they aren’t tested for dangerous heavy metals. Same thing with snaps and other metal hardware.
As far as jackets go, Neighborhood is my go to. Sooo many cool options in all ranges. Got 5 of them and I love em all 🫶🏻 Made In Japan, nice cuts, always good materials and sharp design. Nemen is also good if you’re going flashy. Really drooling over the Acronym jackets, but havent «gone there» yet.
over the past year I've been wearing almost exclusively Beyond and Oros jackets, Beyond is super functional and more typical outdoor performance styles; Oros is definitely Techware influenced and I think the design are great
My favorite jacket that I currently own is probably the J101-GT from ACR. The only “downside” is that…well, I picked the White one; so now I gotta deal with the consequences of it being said color 🤣
I currently wear a lot of Blåkläder, which is a danish workwear brand, the designs are functional but the clothes feel and look really nice as well. Other than that I have a frilufts rain jacket that weighs next to nothing but has the highest water resistance I have ever encountered on a jacket below 700€...and it only cost me 199.
Tbh my favorite jacket is a surplus US Navy greatcoat that I took the faux-fur lining out of. It's got the cool factor of a long coat, but with the military credentials that mean it's actually practical. I almost never wear it.
re: Ideal zips they’re good quality, at least on the same level of mid-high end YKK zips in my experience (i wouldn’t say i’ve owned any that feel as nice as an excella). i think they started as a military grade hardware manufacturer (my memory could be completely off base, though) and i’d say comparatively the zips i’ve seen from them are beefier/heavier overall, especially with how the action feels.
Hey i saw you got the j119-ws i was thinking of picking that one up, but the price got me debating about it. Do you think its worth it? Can you tell me anything about it to help me decide?
I would avoid drop-shipped/Aliexpress/Temu garbage like the plague as there are cheaper options available domestically that are still very solid for the price. One of my favourite "technical" jackets is a Kirkland's Signature light nylon jacket from Costco that was like $20 lmao.
My favoite windbreaker I own is by 5.11 and I got for $50 on deep discount which it has alot of the features of the high end jackets but not goretex....
Vintage Burton Analog jackets for the win (especially those designed by Hugh, you can find em for very cheap if you look in the right places, so you don’t have to pay 2000 euros for modern Hugh designs 😁).
So only rain shells right? 1. Adidas RainRdy Color Changing 2. Adidas Parley Myshelter 3. Atom LT (GOAT) 4. Veilance Nemis 5. System A Moroz 6. Uniqlo Blocktech Coat Flirting with a Goldwyn 0 one for quite a while now. Acronym I might not be hardcore enough but never say never.
Hi Antwon, do you think that the retailers that are a part of Enshadower such as Casstac have gotten better now? The current products on their webpage look a lot better than their previous products. At least the pricing has stayed very affordable.
2:27 I prefer my Chinese factory stuff that way because it's more honest and cheaper... Not saying their is anything wrong with a brand using that stuff and being the middle man you deal with on amazon/ebay/walmart that ensures quality... It's just those types are rare and the no better then importers who charge 3x extra are seemly infinite.
I have absolutely zero issues with mine. The RRP is steep but if you can get it for 40-50% off it’s a good buy. Worth bearing in mind a) I bought it purely for aesthetics and b) I have a silly budget for my hobbies.
My favorite clothing brand atm is lululemon. People will first think of their athletic and athleisure wear, which is overpriced but very good, but I actually really like their professional clothing. I have a really cool noragi-inspired collarless blazer from them and their button-up shirts are a traditional cut but use more comfortable fabric and include technical features like hidden vents to regulate temperature and hidden zippers to keep pockets closed.
6:15 What about 5:11, Rothco and other tacital brands(Including Nike's actual tactical stuff)? There normally cheaper, more stylish, Better made and more practical then even the Colombia shown.
I used to not get the point of jackets that turn into bags cause if i suddenly need a bag i wont prefer to have to take my jacket off... then i realized its just for people like me that dont like tying the sleeves around our waists when it gets warmer
Yes! I have a few pants and shirts from them really well made and have good quality materials on those pieces, i don't own a jacket from them but i assume it is the same waterproof material used on the plants which works well. Would definitely size up when buying im slim, 6'2 and XL fits
I had the Stephen cargos and a winter jacket. The quality sucks bad, the material is way to cheap for the actual price your paying, i just ended up getting acronym at some point anyway. Buy cheap- buy double

The thing about expensive jackets is amortization. It's the cost, divided by how many times you actually wear it. Therefore, divided by like 2

By the way in the US "Made in" means 80% made in and "assembled in" Means we took all our parts and put them together here.
I'm a big fan of Krakatau for jackets and coats: high-performance minimalist style at a reasonable price.

i bought the nike acronym jacket in black after seeing your vid last year, still one of my fav pieces i own

Tbh my favorite jacket is a surplus US Navy greatcoat that I took the faux-fur lining out of. It's got the cool factor of a long coat, but with the military credentials that mean it's actually practical. I almost never wear it.
I love Ten-c for the classy designs and incredibly well-built quality, but it's not exactly a technical brand. Descente is also a great one
Last year I bought a Goldwin perfect unlimited 2l jacket. And it was worth every penny. Basically wear no other jacket anymore.

Anyone know any other jackets with the reversed seam taping like the System A Moroz? Looks really sick.
What are folks thoughts on Mountain Hardware gear? I have a couple of their pieces and enjoy the performance.
You should have various people of different size try on some of the jackets. Like a meathead, chubster, skinny girl etc.
i just orderd the acrnm j110ts-gt 2 days ago and yes acrnm is my favorit brand cus i just love the design, its goin to be my second jacket
