Summer Worm Fishing Tricks for Shallow and Deep Water Bass

  • Are you missing it? There are so many great ways to fish a plastic worm! Come along with Tim as he demonstrates a 2-bait method to maximize your time on the water when finesse fishing for Summer bass. You can fish from 40+ feet all the way up to the water's edge with these 2 baits rigged a few different ways. You don't need an entire box of baits to catch Summer bass!
    Tim's 2 favorite baits for this technique are a senko and a Trick Worm (Netbait T-Mac). By adapting the rigging he can fish both of these baits at a variety of depths. When you think senko your mind immediately goes to fishing it weightless around shallow cover but with a little weight (Neko rig) that bait is suddenly effective in 20, 30, even 50 feet of water! The same goes for the Trick Worm. Most guys see a trick worm and think of the floating worm technique but this bait is incredibly effective on a shaky head, Neko, and exposed jighead as well.
    Summer worm fishing can be overwhelming. There are so many great baits that will consistently catch fish (and you know we'll jump down that rabbit whole soon) but it can also be as simple as a couple baits and a couple rigs, to consistently catch fish. Don't let bass fishing overwhelm you. You can catch these fish and you can do it on a budget. Below are links to the exact baits and rigging methods that Tim was implementing in today's video. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

    Just started fishing a whopper plopper, I've only got 2 fish on it but I took the advice Matt gave and got the middle size and caught a 4.9 and a 5.11. Both from shore. I haven't been able to fish for about two years due to Radiology school but my god I had a blast throwing that bait. I mentioned on another video that I've learned some much from you guys since my last deployment and probably would have given up if not for your videos. Keep up the good work guys!
    P.S. I live in the Northeast near Boston so those are pretty good size fish for up here.

      Stoney Lonsome I had that line of thought as well. For me, however, it doesn’t seem to work. I’m good during the day but when the moon is out I have a tough time getting bit aside from just working low and slow.

    • @samgaither793
      @samgaither793 4 года назад

      @Stoney Lonsome honestly you not wrong at all it would seem that darker color baits tend to get more bites simply due to the contrast. And louder baits or ones that produce more vibrations should theoretically attract more bass in low light conditions.

      Read the bottom of your fishing area with a square bill or football jig. If your rod is sensitive enough you'll be able to tell. If not, you'll figure it out if you have to hop over a rock or branch. I wish i could be more helpful, but it's the best i got. Tight lines brother!

    • @RobFishYT
      @RobFishYT 4 года назад +2

      Study the contours of the surrounding topography. Mid day sun reflecting off the bottom will reveal depth differences. Geology on the banks. What kind of vegetation are you pulling up? Count down with a 1/2oz to 3/4 oz jig to find approximate depth......100's of hours experimenting....you'll figure it out if you consider these things.

As someone who is just beginning the transition from bank fishing to boat, even looking at a map, going out deep to fish can be a little intimidating. Would love to see your bass genius minds at work breaking down how to identify target zones!

      If you need info on the Tennessee river chain specifically, there is so much knowledge out there on them it's almost hard to not know much about how to fish them. Most ledge fishing info comes from people fishing on or giving examples about the TVA lakes.

    Every try fishing in heavy cover with a moss boss lure. The lure has a open hook and you can stop it on top of pads. At that point you can shack the pad and it like ringing the dinner bell. The fish come up from underneath and will knock the lure into the air.

    I think it would be great to see an in debt video on how to catch fish in deep water, say like 45 feet. But with the fish suspended at 30-35 feet. How would you catch them. Bottom contact goes to far below them, most cranks only go 20ish feet down and end up being to high. How would you get the bait in there face and provoke a reaction strike at those depths. In those cases I’ve used underspins and counted down to where I feel like it’s deep enough, or the same way with LV500 but had no luck. I have the same issue on highland and lowland reservoirs. I’d would be very interested to see what you would do in same situation.

    When you get out fishing in deeper water, do you start with a setup you can keep above the fish before switching to the weighted techniques like the shakeyhead? Could you give me 3 or 4 set-ups that you would try in an order for the deep water schooling fish? Also, i live in northeast Arkansas and the water is just now for the first time this year over 12 inches of visability. So i am fishing pretty stained waters. CONFUSED!! Please clear up a source of confusion. T.B. says that bass either stay shallow or split off an go to deep water during summer. Almost every lake in Texas experiences the thermocline. My lake has a 10-12ft T-cline. How can they be "deep" if there's not enough oxygen??? All my bass suspend over deep water, just above the T-cline. We can't fish anything deeper than 12ft. Help??

    • @ScuffedEngineer

    Hey I have a 7ft. medium/heavy Bass Pro Shops Crankin Stick baitcaster rod that takes 3/8 to 1-1/2 lures. I was thinking about changing to the 7ft.3 heavy length in this rod lure: size 3/8 to 2 ounce. Do you think I could throw the same lures on this rod as you do with the nedium/heavy? I'm worried at the lures on the low end thou.

      Jimbo Conn I use Berkley Nano-Fil (10#-12# test) in White for all my spinning reels. I tie 6’-12’ of flouralcarbon (8# test) to the White braid using the FG knot with 30 wraps. White braid is easy to see. The FG connection doubles as a Strike Indicator in shallow water.
      Be well.

      Frog lures, floating worms (Texas rigged w/o weight), swim jigs, 10” -12” worms with 1 oz tungsten bullet weights or (my favorite) a buzz bait in the open holes or around the edges. These are my choices on the lake closest to me that has large areas of lily pads. You can throw these lures on 30+ pound braid.

    I know you and Matt like to fish braid to mono. How do you keep from backlashing when your knot goes through the eyes. I tie the Alberta and the Albright knots. Although I like the braid to mono I may have to go to one or the other. Help.

    • @ScuffedEngineer
      @ScuffedEngineer 4 года назад

      It shouldn't backlash unless you're trying to get too light of a lure out there on too heavy of a line/under the weight castable by the reel or you have micro guides and the knot really doesn't fit through. Like it might stop it a bit or slow it down, but nothing a bit of thumb can't handle. They use blood knots which aren't any smaller than an alberta.

    • @bassman2162
      @bassman2162 4 года назад

      I’ve seen anglers have trouble with braid to some leader because the leave excessive tag ends on their knots or when they use rods with micro guides.

    • @vincentcooper5470
      @vincentcooper5470 4 года назад

      It’s really hard to tell someone what a bite feels like but if I were to explain it if your fishing a crank bait or blades jig bites are obvious. If you’re fishing a bottom contact bait and you thing you have a bite raise your rod a little bit and don’t reel or move your rod. If your rod tip stays still no bite but if it’s twitching you got a fish. Hopefully this helps.
