Didnt know that thermals can bring up the smell of the grass, that was interesting! Also your weather inflight analysis and visuals are great to listen to, this makes your videos universally interesting for others also out of NZ. And great to see visuals of convergence rather than just figuring it out from a textbook! Thanks Ben! :) Someone please sponsor this guy already!!!
Awesome mate! Ive done a bit of kiteboarding on the poolburn dam above the Ida valley and have always admired the clouds out there and wondered how the flying would be. I have a contact who has a hut there let me know if you ever end up stuck out there.
Good observations and subsquent good decisions made this a great flight Narration excellent Well done That's gnarly country thru there and you have to take calculated risks to fly it Would have been a big walk out from some of the places you overflew
Thanks mate, yeah it's pretty barron up there. I saw there were some unsealed roads but I'm sure they're not driven often! I was flying with over night gear and food so was ready just in case, pretty happy to land near Alex in the end though!
Another great video Ben! The mix of time lapse and 360 I brilliant. I have my pg2 course in 2 weeks here in Tasmania and your videos are super encouraging and put a smile on my face knowing I'll be up there soon
I have to say (and I've seen a lot of) that your pg videos are the most entertaining (yet educative) pieces out there! Is there a place where people can support your work? (patrron etc.). Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
If you arrive low err well on the high cloudbase side. The colder air will wedge under the good air and lower down will be a bit ahead of the clouds higher up. It should be buoyant well ahead of the convergence cloud. Once you fall into the (southerly, in this case) on a pg that'll be it.
Beautiful videos Ben!!! I started hang gliding in 1980 with rogallo wings ahahah, well then wings got better and better. Never tried paragliders, but your videos are making me wanting try that! Cheers from Brisbane! If I come over in NZ would be nice to catch up! Ciao!
Great video Ben. My mum is a Kiwi (from Christchurch) but being born in Australia I didn't really acknowledge my NZ heritage until I took my paraglider to the south island a few years ago. I had a great experience and am looking to get back over there once COVID allows. I might see you on launch one day. Keep the videos coming. Lastly, how do you mount your 360 camera to the carabiner? Thanks.
Cool! Yeah hopefully see you in the sky! 😎 I use a small rig clamp mount and I skew the selfie stick into it. photogear.co.nz/brands/smallrig/accessories/super-clamp/smallrig-clamp-mount-v1-w-ball-head-mount-and-coolclamp-1124/
Thanks Ben, with this southerly no flying today so this helps. Was this flight last week? Weather looks mint What app are you using for your flight track?
@@BenjaminKellett Your landing spot was a long way from the main road, your arrival home that night must have been a late one as well so thanks for flying always that bit further. Airborn shows you have been hitting a few XC milestones as well. Your a busy man. Keep up the vids, great stuff.

Awesome thanks for the kind words!! Glad you enjoyed it. Got a few more on the way, just been busy flying. Need some rainy days to do some editing! 😅
Another banger of a video Ben, makes me very homesick... Thanks for sharing!
You're very welcome mate!
Love the debrief, always cool to see a minute or two of the pack up and tramp out
Sweet!

@@oldwaitekauri yeah after re watching the hyperlapse I can see I should’ve taken a line further to the right probably would’ve been better 🤓

@@BenjaminKellett Last question mate. What external mic are you using? The audio is great.
@@petavon all good mate! I use a rode lapel mic, it's plugged into the gopro on the helmet.
Niiiiceeeee!!!!!!!
Cooooommmeee baaaaaaacckkk
I’ve been trying to find that area in the mountains to launch! How do you get there?
There's a track leading up from near the Dam
@@BenjaminKellett is this on the other side of the highway near the camp grounds?
