    About me
    Hi, my name is Tina and I'm a data scientist at a FAANG company. I was pre-med studying pharmacology at the University of Toronto until I finally accepted that I would make a terrible doctor. I didn't know what to do with myself so I worked for a year as a research assistant for a bioinformatics lab where I learned how to code and became interested in data science. I then did a masters in computer science (MCIT) at the University of Pennsylvania before ending up at my current job in tech :)

    "The way that you spend your days is the way you spend your life" never gets old and always hits me really hard. When I first heard it , it changed the way I think, I appreciate more people/things in life, and I try to choose my battles wisely. Also, it's not bad to work hard but don't lose yourself. Thank you for making this video, Tina! It touches so many people.

    I read Mastery and So Good They Can't Ignore You too in search of finding my "passion." It's nice to know that I wasn't the only person who left confused after reading.

  • @vasileioskiniklis550
    @vasileioskiniklis550 2 года назад +7

    Spot on video! Especially in these days that there’s pressure from everywhere to find your “passion” and your “life goal”. I think it doesn’t come so naturally to 99% of people and most get disappointed when they compare themselves to the very few that they seem to know where their life is going. So totally agree with your points that instead of finding your passion, fix your habits/systems, try out different projects and reflect on how that is going for you to connect your dots. You’re a gem!

  • @PracticalInspiration
    @PracticalInspiration 2 года назад +14

    Love all the quotes, but the last about systems is one that I've been focusing a lot on in general in my life. I'm also reading The Compound Effect which talks about the outcomes of habits (i.e. said systems), so it's very much in my conscious thoughts.

  • @dmd2803

    Didn't know how much I needed this video until I found myself scrambling for a post-it to take notes on! It really resonated with me how you said the higher your baseline gets, things have a less negative impact on you and the more accessible success becomes. I'd like to add to the list that an indicator of a successful life is also having good relationships with others, being surrounded by loved ones and community. Thanks Tina, love all your content!

    I learned by watching hundreds of RUclips videos & all the different industries & jobs in the market. Then after almost dieing & writing a book. Then I learned what was best for me based off my mindset. I like to build stuff and I enjoy playing with technology. But I'm also super creative. So I learned that I want to be a Software Engineer for the technical stuff, illustrator for my creativity & imagination, & Traveler for adventure. So I dont become like a coding monkey and force myself to go outside. A good example is the Chinese artist WLOP. But also travel & show my adventures as RUclipsr. I believe I can do all these things at the same time. 😄

    "Live every day until the day that you die." Pilots have a saying like that: "fly it into the ground." That means that until you're solidly on the ground, you need to be flying the airplane. Whether 1 inch or 1 mile above the ground, no matter if you're crashing or lending, you need to be flying the plane, no matter what. They instill that maxim into pilots to the point that quite a few fighter pilots have flown a doomed plane right into the ground, even though they had a perfectly good chance to eject a mile higher. Well, in the modern day, not so much, but it's still true to a degree.

    This is a tremendous video where you mentioned fiction books you are reading. Regarding the philosophy to learn a minimal to start - actually I share it, learn only what I can use right now. I always argue with a friend who reads tons of books before start doing something. It is fun because when I tell - it is nice, but one problem bothers me... he answered - if you read the book then you could know... but again, sure it nice, so what happens next? he answers - I didn't read about that yet :)

    Firstly, I would like to thank you for this great video with all its respectable insights. However, I would like to grasp your attention to what is the purpose and duty of every single human being within the limited time we have in this life. If you figured out what is that and made your passion to fulfill this duty, therefore your life will be meaningful regardless of what you do or what system aka habits you follow. Because it's true we can form and manage our life to a certain extent but sometimes life circumstances are bigger than us to control. looking for meaning and purpose in life rather than just living life is what makes us human beings.

    I like how these quotes and principles also apply to my recently finding out there are atheist branches of paganism.
    Where you apply meaning through rituals and practices of paganism, yet not necessarily believe in magic or deities or stuff like that. That you realize that the effects these rituals give are real and genuine experiences, but not created by an outside force.
    Naturalistic Paganism, as it's called, is heavily rooted in learning more about the world (think of learning astronomy, physics, biology etc), and CREATING rituals that are meaningful to you specifically so you feel more connected with this planet/universe...
    Not here to convert you of course, but just making an observation of my own path and how these quotes can apply to my own life and how compatible they are! And I love that "being creative (output) by applying things you learn (input)" is applicable in a similar way.
    I'm still figuring things out for myself too, but I've always had a connection with paganism, but not believing in gods or magic made me hesitant to research further.
    The second quote hit me, as it just verified that I wanted to know more about this universe and feel this connection and being a better person and trying to better myself, but also the world around me (in what capacity I can) and indeed living more intentionally! =D

    What I hate about “Be so good they can’t ignore you” the book by Cal Newport is that they took my favorite quote BY STEVE Martin, I honestly want to get it tattooed on me and made it about something different. I love Steve Martin and basically, he found a PASSION and ran with it. He pursued it and his point being don’t worry about finding. An agent or details, be good at what you do and people will come to you. But Cal Newport kind of totally missed the part where Martin says comedy does not come natural to him and he overcame this with practice. I think the books author tries to acknowledge this but misses the point that the reason why all of this works is because this is something you chose and believe is a passion. You aren’t toiling away for a career which does not fulfill you.
