  • Andy is on the famous Linn Pool on the River Tay, arguably the best spring salmon beat on the whole river. We join the expert Taymount ghillies, Cohn and Mike, with their clients for an epic day's spring salmon fishing. Yet again, we keep it reel, and bring you loads of fishy action! "Keeping it reel"

Hi andy love the videos always , but i do agree with sam dawsons comment about the guests holding there own fish, i notice this a lot most of the ghillies take control of the fish and end up in the picture , that could have been billys best ever and he didnt even get to hold it after all the guests pay money for these days and to hold a fish would make it better

Hi guys sorry for my question but it look weird to me when person who caught a fish can't even hold it and pose for picture. Is it some kind of tradition up in Scotland?

Why the hell is the guy who caught the salmon, isn’t given a chance to hold the fish to take the picture. On one occasion, I can see him extend his arm to hold the fish but he wasn’t given any chance, can someone care to explain. JESUS! this is hard to watch.

Is the fisherman on this beat ever holding his fish for the photo himself???

Hello, great videos of the Tay. I was wondering what a days fishing cost there?

  • @markkelly940

So are the clients/fishermen not capable of returning the fish themselves! Seems to me to be a rather selfish act the fact that the gillies obviously insist that they return the fish. I bet the clients would get a great deal of satisfaction in returning the fish that they caught themselves! Wont be rushing to book fishing on this beat anytime soon!!

No Or by many cater for spinning and worm as well. I am unsure if there are any fly only waters in the North of Ireland here but I haven't heard of any

Some beats on the Roe are fly and single barbless only

Interesting, I thought all salmon rivers in the UK were fly fishing only. Is the River Tay a syndicate owned river as well?

Seems like the guides just want themselves in the pics. Would definitely never employ them.

      Thanks for your comment.
It takes great skill and experience to handle and release fish in the correct manner to safe any unnecessary stresses. All guests are more than happy with this situation. The beat releases 100% of all spring salmon caught.

@@FromField2StreamTV As a guest I would be most unhappy. Zero tip for the ghille. Then the old adage of the difference between a disgruntled ghille and a little ray of sunshine will be clear for all to see.

alot of ghilles prefer to handle the fish saves on any damage to the fish plus the guy hadnt wet his hands

    • @samdawson7677
      @samdawson7677 10 лет назад +6

Kenny McLeod There is an issue with safely releasing the fish by minimising contact. That is best done by avoiding a net, using forceps to remove the hook (which should be barbless) and reviving the fish in the water. But if the ghillie can net the fish and lift it out for a picture, why can't the angler do it under supervision? After all, he's probably paid a fortune to catch it?

I agree mate, some of the prices for a days fishing is unreal Junction pool 1200 per rod per day and you cant take a fish cheaper giving up the sport and buy from Tesco. As for handling I would prefer for my ghille to handle the fish as Im not confident handling fish maybe the guy was the same? We fished Dalmarnock on the Tay and a fish was caught the ghille gave the option It might just be certain rivers Im not sure never catch for the option to be available lol

Most enjoyable, please cut the music. So many films are ruined by the music drowning out the commentary.
