I think it's a cultural thing. There are a lot of culture in Asia that calls other person who's older than them an "uncle" and they're not even related. Calling a white guy an "uncle" seems off IMO.
We, as Indians, have been conditioned this way. Even my folks will take out the "good" cups and saucers for tea when white people visit. So sad...they (whites) have dehumanized all of us to this point.
@@ruthun Im also Indian and I don't see it as dehumanization, while your tea cup thing is definitely a form of prejudice, the uncle thing I see more as endearment. Relating to someone who shares your culture (or at least presumably so)

I was used to calling generic strangers as uncle and aunties in india, but did a double take when my very white Austrian boss straight up called our taxi driver who was visibly atleast a decade younger than him ‘uncle ‘

One year I baked 3 chickens for Thanksgiving dinner instead of a turkey and my family went berserk. Now they bring that up every year. Honestly, saved me from hosting another Thanksgiving dinner so joke is on them.
I did this for years...it's great...couldn't really afford a Turkey.
