- Dirt Cake - Easy, No Bake Oreo Dessert
1.5 pound bag Oreo Cookies
1 stick butter
1 cup powdered sugar
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
2 (3.4 oz) boxes instant vanilla pudding
12 oz tub Cool Whip
3 cups milk
Scrape the cream center from each Oreo cookie, and set aside. Using a food processor, crunch the chocolate wafers until they are very fine and set aside.
Blend butter, sugar, cream cheese, and the creamy center from the Oreos together. Set this mixture aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the pudding, Cool Whip, and milk. Whisk until thickened. Add in the cream cheese and butter mixture and beat until well combined.
Sprinkle a thin layer of the crunched Oreo chocolate wafers on the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Gently spoon the pudding/cream cheese mixture over the crumbs and spread evenly. Top with the rest of the chocolate Oreo crumbs. Refrigerate for several hours before serving.

I make these in cupcake form for my grandchildren. We put gummi worms on the tops to make it look like worms are crawling out of the dirt! They love it!
Looks delicious and I’m going to make it soon
I love the idea of individual serving dishes for kids. And the worms are a nice touch for kids.
I use chocolate pudding instead of vanilla pudding I need some Oreo cookies and serve it in a ceramic flower pot and put artificial flowers in it and make it look like a potted plant it tastes yummy
Hey guys, a friend of mine used to bring this to work for us and it was always so delicious, but one time she made it with an off brand oreo and it tasted strange so be sure to always use oreos..it's so cool and refreshing....sometimes it pays to buy the good stuff... thanks for the video...I just finished the one about your adventure at the derby dinner house and lights going out..glad it worked out...
When I was teaching 3rd grade, one of our science units was "soil." When we had our unit test, I would serve dirt cake to my class. I made it in a large flower pot and put gummy worms on it. The kids loved it!
In the spring, when all the new beach items came out, we would buy little pails and plastic shovels. We just washed them out with soapy water and dried them and used the bucket to hold the sand cake and the shovel to scoop it out to serve.
❤ I love how you line the ingredients up, makes it so easy to follow. So sweet how you give the wife the first bite.
I love the way you lay out the ingredients and explain everything. Really enjoying your videos
I agree with your oatmeal raisin assessment. Especially the biting into a raisin instead of a chocolate chip part 😂
Tom & Melissa- I made this dessert for Thanksgiving & it was a hit ! Everyone loved it! Thank you both for sharing this with us. 👏👏👏💕🌻
The dirt cake is great for Halloween. Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies make perfect gravestones. You can write anything you want on them. Those little candy pumpkins are also good for decorating the cake. Ghosts, bats, or any decoration that your family loves would look great on top. I've done this and it was a big hit with everyone.
That sounds fun...I need to make that for our family's annual Halloween costume party.
❤can’t wait to try this! You’re blessed to have a husband that cooks! My husband waits for me to make him a cup of cocoa and if I don’t have time he goes without! And don’t ask him to boil an egg!
I love your recipes!! This one looks so good!!
in Canada you can buy chocolate wafers and crumbs in a box.
If you need the stuff in the middle (for flavour😁) and are using Oreo cookies, without a blender, put the cookies in a zip lock bag, seal and roll a rolling pin over the cookies. Maybe hit them a couple of times!
Recipe - box of chocolate wafers, cup of heavy cream. Whip cream. Spread the whipped cream between each wafer, and stick to each other. then cover with the rest of whipped cream. Put in fridge for at least 2 hours. Cut diagonally into slices. Very good and easy on the pocketbook. J
That was a great recipe! I wonder if Christie is still making the chocolate wafers.
I have been baking, cooking all my life. I am 60 years old now and have never come across this recipe. Thank you. I am going to try it for maybe Labor day, Thanksgiving.
Had this recipe over 25 years ago. Lost it! This is it! THANK YOU
When my kids were little. My dad and their aunt came to visit. We did a dirt cake only we layered it in new clean plastic flower pot and then wrapped a stem of silk flowers with Saran Wrap or aluminum foil. We sat it on the table just before dinner. My daddy really loved it and made such a fuss over his grandkids feeding him dirty
You had me at the Chicken and Dressing Casserole. Right after my own heart. I am a subscriber now.
Thank you so much for joining our little channel. We really appreciate it. And you've started with two wonderful recipes I think! We hope you find others of ours that you enjoy as well!
OMG! I completely agree with the oatmeal cookie challenge…so disappointing when it happens. Love this recipe. My family use to make it when I was a child. We would use gummy worms, or even put it in a bucket to make it seem more realistic. I’ve seen it made with vanilla Oreos to represent “sand” instead of dirt. Blessings!
Tom, I used to put my dirt cake in a well scrubbed planter with an artificial plastic flower stuck in the dirt! Also used the gimme worms on top.
Oh my, this takes me back. I made dirt cake for my kids. I put gummy worms on it and sticking out of the "dirt". They loved it!! ❤
It truly is a refreshing dessert for summer.
Thank you so much for watching! We appreciate it.
I made this once, using a brand-new, thoroughly washed toy pail, with toy shovels. Yes, gummy worms coming out of the ‘dirt’. Didn’t tell the guests what it was other than ‘“edible ‘dirt’”
My Aunt made this in a flower pot, the terracotta kind and stuck a fake flower in it, and put it as a centerpiece on our picnic table, at our family reunion. I was looking for my daughter, age 4 and when I found her she was digging in a flower pot on the table. I hadn't heard of dirt cake before so I yelled at her to get out of the dirt. My Aunt and everyone was laughing when they told me it was a Dessert.😂
That OSCAR is my favorite. I still have mine. I've had it probably 30 years. I love going to second hand stores looking for older kitchen gadgets and I found the larger Oscar for $5.00. Woo-hoo it was my lucky day.
My recipe calls for leaving the cream in the oreos and blend it up. I layer it in a big terracotta pot and put an imitation sun flower in it, and I use a little garden spade to serve it with.
I have made this for years and we call it Dirt Pudding. I haven’t used the oreo filling in the filling. Now I have to make it your way! Thanks for sharing! Melissa taking 2 samples is a stamp of approval, too!
Thank you so much for the invitation to Come Sit at Your Table. :) I am loving your recipes, and so appreciate your wonderful wife, for writing out these recipes with each video. I live alone now, having lost my husband 4 years ago, and find that most of these recipes can be halved easily, thank you.👍 Have a wonderful day and enjoy cooking and filming. 💖💖
You're very kind and I really appreciate your nice comments. I'm happy that you'll be able to use most of our recipes!
I have never liked eating raisins either. However, through the years, I came across a spice cake recipe that had you plump the raisins before putting them into your cake batter. You plump the raisins by putting the amount of raisins in your recipe into a small pan, then add approximately 1/4-1/3 cup of water to the pan. Place the pan on the stove and let the water come to a boil, turn off the heat and put a lid over the raisins to steep about 30 mins or longer. Then drain those raisins well before adding them to your batter. What a difference that made for me. Today, If I use raisins, they are plumped before I put them in a recipe. I must confess that I used golden raisins in a broccoli salad for Easter. I didn’t plump them, mainly because I had never used golden ones before.. P;is the fact that the salad was made the night before to marinate in a mixture of Mayo, sugar, and Red wine vinegar, and they were just fine. I do enjoy your recipes. Thank you.
You really make me feel as if I am sitting at your table! Thank you for going over each step and also including the recipe written out so it's easy to find
You are so welcome!
Love the way you guys do the video and have ingredients and instructions. I am so glad I found your site.
Great job
I had almost forgotten about Dirt Cake! It was quite popular back in the day! And yes, we liked putting gummy worms down in the dirt! 😁
great video!
Yum. Thanks.
Although I would switch out cool whip for homemade whipped cream, I love the fact that your filling is luscious and rich. It's one of my favorite desserts. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching. Homemade anything is always best but sometimes a shortcut is very much appreciated! Have a great evening!

I am binge watching more videos this morning. I haven't made this but I have seen many videos/recipes but I 've never seen anyone remove the icing from the Oreos. I think doing so truly makes it look like dirt. Great tip. Thanks for another great recipe and enjoyable video, Tom & Melissa.

I had that same food processor for 30+ years. It finally gave up last year. I replaced it with a larger one and I'm no so in love lol. Great video! TFS
Oreos like picking strawberries. One in bowl and one in my mouth. 😊
That's a very reasonable plan I think.

Thanks so much for another great video and some great inspiration for the kitchen. Hugs and kisses from grandma, Sandy, and.
i made this absolutely delicious , thanks for great recipe
Glad you liked it!
Oh my, how refreshing it is to come across this Oreo dirt cake recipe that I used to make many moons 🌙 ago. Now with my old recipe, I can't recall using butter at all. But I would love to try it with a whole stick of butter added. I'm always looking for an excuse to throw butter in any dish 😊.
I can also remember using a can of sweetened condensed milk the last time I made it. But I think just only using the powdered sugar would be enough. Thanks. Can't wait to tackle this rich treat again. Grown folks & children alike just went bananas for it.
When my girl was end-of-year in 4th grade? about 10y/o - leaving primary school? I made this for party day with the gold oreos and we did a little prank. We warmed up tootsie rolls (about 24) in the microwave until just soft. We rolled them with a little pinch at the ends and then pressed into them a few loose crumbs and planted them evenly laying in the pudding, hanging some over the side. (I actually bought a cheap $1 cat pan and cat scoop from the bargain store to serve it.) I apologized to one ornery boy hanging at my arm, that I felt so bad, I only have two cats, so I couldn't make much just one scoop for everybody... I guess it was convincing! Because only about 1/2 the kids ate theirs. 100% wanted some~ But once they faced it- they just couldn't do it. Lol. That was a fun time... kitty litter cake. My ol' farmin' grandpa would have my hide for that prank! He did NOT like cats, let alone....their dooey...NO SIR! Lol. Kids are fun. Now they're all grown and graduated! Time flies...
Mom, you ARE bad-a kitty litter cake with Tootsie roll "turds"! 😱🤭👍😵. My boys will say-"ooo,that's gross dad!" I've gotta try this version as well! The "fun" to be had!😇🤓😫 Doug
😊p,,
