I do a similar process with my kayak. But, when it rains, the water runs down the straps into the car !! Have you had that issue and if so, any ideas on how to stop the water from entering the vehicle ??

Get crossbars for bare roof.

Hmm I heard that for bow and stern, you should have two tie points each. What's your opinion on that?

Pass one plastic rope from the hole at the bow and another from the hole at the stern. Then open the windows and tie the rope across several times. Use the straps as well. The kayak won't move.
