      The Knot is a Truckers Hitch this version is tied with a loop in the line. Ive also seen it tied with a slip knot. It's a handy knot to know. It's also good for a Ridgeline for pitching tarps when camping.

    is it necessary to attach it to the hood and trunk or will the straps be enough

      its good to so the wing doesnt pick it up. There should be a spot in the car chassis under the hood to hook too. If not you can tie a rope do you can connect it to that.

    To remove the kayak, do you have to cut the line? I can't see untying that.
