I love that your presenting it properly. With the two finger approach. Ive seen cpuntless videos of gypsy jazz players do videos all saying the same. These are tue cprrect chords for this song or that song. Then proceed to play full fpur from ngered chord variations.
The man had two fingers .
He dod not play four fingered chords .he couldn't
He did two fingers with the stump for accents and muting and allowing "bad technique" of using the edges of fingers to mute bits he could fret.
Once you stop trying to use the weak outside of the hand ,his style becomes clear and very and easy tp uderstand.
People cant understand because they try the whole hand.
Elastic band you pinky and ring to your palm. See the speed you now have because the two fingers you have are strong and coordinated.
You need to learn django chords if you want to play like him .
La pompe sounds good on any chord but better with his . You dont need tp work out which chords . Django did that. That was his genius . Dont forget to wrap the thimb over the top for the bass line/muting .

I didn't know about Django when I was 18, but I worked out a similar chord technique when I lost the end of my ring finger in an accident. He still had a lot more talent than me, though!
