    I discovered this rhythm in a subway of Paris while looking at the face of fancy stranger passengers and a 3 member band playing while standing up against our wagon.
    It was awesome. I paid like 2 euros for a nice ride and great music.
    I just needed my glass of bubbly champagne but...they would’ve thrown me out.

    Strange thing, i've been meaning to pick up some Django for a while, my style has slowly been slipping towards gypsy jazz for a while. I watched this, and realised I pretty much already knew how to play this. Picked it up instantly, but the lesson truly gave it that push. Thanks a lot, gonna learn some more!

      Ha, it seemed to be the case for Django. Barry and I were actually discussing how many of these techniques were developed around Django’s injury. The limitations were in someways the catalyst for an entire sub-genre.

    • @j.garnergtr
      @j.garnergtr 4 года назад +2

      Yes. Certain things do work better when you have to play them with only two fingers. It also reduces the number of options your brain must choose from when you want to play a desired sound ( a lick).

    Hello Barry . Could you please explain why a Bmi6 suddenly changes name into E7/b evenwhile there is no E in the chord. I'am confused.

    • @reese2940
      @reese2940 Год назад +1

      Late reply, but posting it for other folks who are browsing the comments. Often in jazz stuff the root is said to be 'implied', whether its from the chord changes in the song, or just from the bassist playing the root. The E7/B that we see contains a B (5th of E) a G# (3rd of E) and a D (7th of E), so we have most of the ingredients of an E except for the root itself, but we say that its close enough. If you are feeling spicy while playing you can bounce the bass note from the B (7th fret E string) to the E (7th fret A string) on each strum to really sell the 'E' nature of the chord.
      There are more reasons as to why it should be called an E7 vs a Bmi6 that barely matter in the end, but it has to do with the scale we are in and the relation that an E7 has to an Ami.
