I like to leave an extra foot on each end of the rope to keep the ends from the bends. This prevents creating knots from random motion while stored or in transit. My father says: a lot of physicists study how knots end up in ropes - it's called "knot theory".

Nothing like a bit of "Knot Theory" to keep you occupied on a miserable Sunday afternoon. Thanks for sharing !

Glad you liked it ! It is never too late to get into this great sport. I started at 6 or 7, 40+ year later I learnt this one. Wish I had been taught this years ago would have saved me hours untwisting ropes. @@BottomUPBoats I've been subscribed and had the 'bell' highlighted for a good while now. I've been setting aside 20 mins a night for a while now to practice knots - As well as a small RYA handbook, you guys are my go to reference for this :-)
