- When repotting or planting Bougainvilleas, always remember to avoid disturbing the roots as much as possible.
The main reason why is because Bougainvilleas have fibrous and delicate roots. They easily get stressed and the plant might go into shock which takes weeks to recover, if they can recover. So minimal root disturbance is a must. ✅
On this video I have two Barbara Karst Bougainvilleas recently been bought from two different nurseries in our area. The one with the darker leaves with no flowers has a wet soil. The one with the flowers can be seen in most part of this video because that Bougainvillea is the ideal plant for repotting demonstration. Both Bougainvilleas are now happy on their new home in our yard. 👍

Great job in demonstrating this in just a few mins and straight to the point. Thank you!
Thank you so much! 🤗
Yes , Bougainvilleas do not like too much water but love to be pruned properly from time to time! 🙏 Thank You So Much for this valuable tutorial! 🌷🌿🌏💜🕊
Yes they love to be pruned! You're very welcome! 💜
Wow
Excellent video
You didn’t disturb the bracts!
Good video, exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you! Will post an update soon! 😁
What that's cool
Thank you for the tips about what soil to use. I'm trying to keep my new bougainvillea alive. I know the soil is pretty hard around the roots. He actually survived the winter, but did loose all of his leaves, bracts and flowers. (I did cover him up for colder weather.) Now it's leafy again but the leaves are curling so I think I'm not watering enough. I'm going to buy a gauge to test the acidity. Thanks for the advice about how to transplant them.
Glad to help! Yes! They love acidic soil. If it's alkaline, the leaves will turn light green.
Good job👍
Thank you! 😊
@@pacificgardener You're welcome 😊
Can you also add compost to the soil mix as well?
If the plants comes with red soil do u have to remove it or plant it directly into the pot . Tq .
very nicely explained thanks for sharing vedio 👍
new friend here 💐 😊 please stay connected 🙏 ❤️ 🙏
Thank you!! Keep in touch. 👍🏻👍🏻
I planted four of these plants in the ground. How often should I water them at first?
It really depends on where you live like your climate, weather and season.
Is it still warm where you live and still summer? I would water them twice a week. Then when it gets cold a little bit or a bit rainy, maybe once a week.
Do this until the bougainvilleas gets established on the ground. And remember, water at the base not the leaves!
@@peacerose8024 But also check the soil if it is dry. If it's still wet, maybe you can do watering once a week. Just buy "soil moisture meter" and dip it in before you are due for watering. I usually do that to double check so we get to avoid root rot especially if your soil doesn't drain that much. Also take a note, if your bougainvillea receives too much water, it will become leafy. But if you've got the right watering condition, like letting the soil dry first before watering, you will get the best blooms!
And Yeah, soap insecticide will do as well. Good luck and happy planting! 😊
After repotting and keeping in shade without root disturbance it's shedding all the flowers . Is it normal or something needs to be done .
It's normal at first. It's acclimating. If you water it more often, the flowers will drop but the leaves will become lush. If you balance watering, like let it dry out before watering again, you will trigger it to flower again. 😊
So you dont need to break up the old soil and roots?
You can, but no need to. 👍🏻
@@pacificgardener ok does that apply to cuttings that ive propagated and have rooted and are now overgrowing the pot
How long can Bougainvilleas stay in a pot instead of planting in the ground directly?
Forever. They enjoy being a bit root bound and don't mind staying in their containers for a long time. As long as you bring them indoors if you get a freeze.
Should we trim off any limbs that no longer have foliage? Would that disturb the plant?
Yes trim it! It will not hurt the plant, in fact it will encourage to grow other branches.
@@pacificgardener; Will trimming off the spike thorns hurt the plant? Thank you so much for your response.
@@CVenza Like removing the the thorns on each branch? Never heard of that before. If you're eager to remove all of those, that's up to you. It might just create a lot of openings for some pest to infect you plant. 👍🏻
@@pacificgardener; thank you for your response. I took off the thorns on one branch last year & it dried the branch up. I am not sure what caused the drying of the branch for sure but that was my experience.
I left my empty stems and branches and new leaves all came back! I think they just go through periods of losing their leaves, maybe after winter. I'm not an expert though. I didn't cut my branches off but it's totally green again.
But why did u cut the plastic pot, you can maybe use it for other plants cutting. Just 2 min. before use water on the nursary pot and rotate pot no down side, you will get the same result
Obviously, you missed to read the title: How to repot or plant bougainvillea WITHOUT disturbing the roots.
Bougainvilleas don't like their roots disturbed during planting or transplantation, they get too stressed .
Bhe how to plant tulips?😅🤣🤣
Marz, soon! Hehehe. 😂 I'm not yet familiar with tulips, but very soon! 🌷
Bougaivilleas never flower for me. They just grow like a vine😅
Probably you're watering them too much. Just water them only when the soil is dry.
And provide them plenty of sunlight. They become vegetative if too much water and not enough sunlight. Hope that helps! 👍🏻
This is a joke… you should watch Nigel sanders chop up the roots and place them in a bonsai shallow pot… funny how regurgitating other RUclipss words on not disturbing the roots!
Well guess what, you are in a wrong video! This video is not intended for bonsai.
I potted a few Bougainvilleas years before I got these 2 and they all died because I disturbed the roots so much!!
Experience is the best teacher for me!!
So I'm just sharing my experience to everyone thru this video. God bless you!
