What we have here in the video is Natchez Crape Myrtle ( Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Natchez'). This variety has white flowers and has a...
How to repot or plant Bougainvillea without disturbing the roots 🌿😎
Просмотров 54 тыс.3 года назад
When repotting or planting Bougainvilleas, always remember to avoid disturbing the roots as much as possible. The main reason why is because Bougainvilleas have fibrous and delicate roots. They easily get stressed and the plant might go into shock which takes weeks to recover, if they can recover. So minimal root disturbance is a must. ✅ On this video I have two Barbara Karst Bougainvilleas rec...

Repotting New Gold Lantana shrub 🌱💛
Просмотров 7153 года назад
Lantanas are perennial flowering plants in the verbena family. They're very common here in Las Vegas valley. It is one of a few flowering shrubs here that blooms even if the summer temperature is above 3 digits. Hi gardeners! My name is Jeff. And this is the first video of Pacific Gardener. 🥰 When we moved here in Southern Nevada, there is one plant that really stands out for me. Because they a...
Exactly what I needed. Thanks.
@@chad-dc9px glad to help. 👍🏻
❤
I would like to send you photos of two cactus pots I have that seem 'sunburned' to my untrained eye, for comment-assessment. Can you provide me an email to reach you? I will send both photos.
Wow Excellent video You didn’t disturb the bracts!
After repotting and keeping in shade without root disturbance it's shedding all the flowers . Is it normal or something needs to be done .
It's normal at first. It's acclimating. If you water it more often, the flowers will drop but the leaves will become lush. If you balance watering, like let it dry out before watering again, you will trigger it to flower again. 😊
Just what I needed to know!
So you dont need to break up the old soil and roots?
You can, but no need to. 👍🏻
@@pacificgardener ok does that apply to cuttings that ive propagated and have rooted and are now overgrowing the pot
Bougaivilleas never flower for me. They just grow like a vine😅
Probably you're watering them too much. Just water them only when the soil is dry. And provide them plenty of sunlight. They become vegetative if too much water and not enough sunlight. Hope that helps! 👍🏻
Can you also add compost to the soil mix as well?
Good video, exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you! Will post an update soon! 😁
Okay I have a barrel cactus for about 3 years now grown quite a lot but hasn't produce roots
Wow! There could be a lot of factors though, maybe it's time to change the soil and do water it only when the soil is dry but not bone dry, so the roots can get established.
@@pacificgardener I'm going to do a soil change it's only thing I could think of cuz I try not to overwater it it has doubled in size in the last 3 years but still no roots what blows me it fell over so I put it back in the soil added a little water to the dry dry dirt
@@pacificgardener just crazy because it has grown so much
@@kingwoods4906 Hello....this is the first time seeing any of your videos!... But your response puzzles me....water when it's dry but not bone dry??... I thought that was the idea...let it dry out completely between waterings ! I've taken a special liking towards golden barrel cacti recently....so far I have 2 of them that I purchased from home Depot...their juvenile... probably 5" diameter... about 3,4" high. I've started taking up interest in them because I hear their having some problems in the wild, people are actually digging them up out in the deserts and selling them in like a black market? ...crazy huh??.... At any rate yeah any tips or tricks you could share about how to take care of these guy's would be appreciated 👍...I live in Phoenix AZ so yeah I'm just trying to do my part, however small that might be!
The towel trick is a nice touch! I've seen people use Styrofoam before!!..... I never knew that that is why you didn't water cactus after transplanting....thank you! 🌵🌵🌵
If the plants comes with red soil do u have to remove it or plant it directly into the pot . Tq .
But why did u cut the plastic pot, you can maybe use it for other plants cutting. Just 2 min. before use water on the nursary pot and rotate pot no down side, you will get the same result
Obviously, you missed to read the title: How to repot or plant bougainvillea WITHOUT disturbing the roots. Bougainvilleas don't like their roots disturbed during planting or transplantation, they get too stressed .
Very beautiful! 👍 I just got one from a flea market it's way overgrown it's like 6 feet tall and only like 5 huge branches
Thank you for helping me learn how to cut my hibiscus tree 🌺. I made short about it with your help 😁
This is a joke… you should watch Nigel sanders chop up the roots and place them in a bonsai shallow pot… funny how regurgitating other RUclipss words on not disturbing the roots!
Well guess what, you are in a wrong video! This video is not intended for bonsai. I potted a few Bougainvilleas years before I got these 2 and they all died because I disturbed the roots so much!! Experience is the best teacher for me!! So I'm just sharing my experience to everyone thru this video. God bless you!
Thank you for the tips about what soil to use. I'm trying to keep my new bougainvillea alive. I know the soil is pretty hard around the roots. He actually survived the winter, but did loose all of his leaves, bracts and flowers. (I did cover him up for colder weather.) Now it's leafy again but the leaves are curling so I think I'm not watering enough. I'm going to buy a gauge to test the acidity. Thanks for the advice about how to transplant them.
Glad to help! Yes! They love acidic soil. If it's alkaline, the leaves will turn light green.
Super useful content bless yaaaa
Thank you so much! 👍🏻
I'm planning to have indoor plants.. Do you have any suggestion of plants that can thrive in a tropical country?
I highly suggest Jade plants, Snake plants and Money plants! They do very well indoors and can thrive on neglect! 🤗
Awesome! You got ads now (I didn't skipped😘) Hoping to see new videos soon.
Thank you Reycie!! Need to upload videos soon! It's hard to edit! 😂
How long can Bougainvilleas stay in a pot instead of planting in the ground directly?
Forever. They enjoy being a bit root bound and don't mind staying in their containers for a long time. As long as you bring them indoors if you get a freeze.
Yes , Bougainvilleas do not like too much water but love to be pruned properly from time to time! 🙏 Thank You So Much for this valuable tutorial! 🌷🌿🌏💜🕊
Yes they love to be pruned! You're very welcome! 💜
Should we trim off any limbs that no longer have foliage? Would that disturb the plant?
Yes trim it! It will not hurt the plant, in fact it will encourage to grow other branches.
@@pacificgardener; Will trimming off the spike thorns hurt the plant? Thank you so much for your response.
@@CVenza Like removing the the thorns on each branch? Never heard of that before. If you're eager to remove all of those, that's up to you. It might just create a lot of openings for some pest to infect you plant. 👍🏻
@@pacificgardener; thank you for your response. I took off the thorns on one branch last year & it dried the branch up. I am not sure what caused the drying of the branch for sure but that was my experience.
I left my empty stems and branches and new leaves all came back! I think they just go through periods of losing their leaves, maybe after winter. I'm not an expert though. I didn't cut my branches off but it's totally green again.
Hello po , again enjoy watching your video and also love the beautiful pots you had .
Thank you po! Will upload more videos soon!
how do I grow them taller? mine growing but developing too many branches and its growing horizontal
When the plant is young, you should have train it to grow upwards. You can do that by pruning the branches that leans sideways and downwards. Leaving only upright branches. It's better to train young Hibiscus than a mature one. 👍🏻
Mine is a mature one that has grown to about 6-7 feet with branches every which way. Can I trim it like this, too? If you're still here.
I planted four of these plants in the ground. How often should I water them at first?
It really depends on where you live like your climate, weather and season. Is it still warm where you live and still summer? I would water them twice a week. Then when it gets cold a little bit or a bit rainy, maybe once a week. Do this until the bougainvilleas gets established on the ground. And remember, water at the base not the leaves!
@@peacerose8024 But also check the soil if it is dry. If it's still wet, maybe you can do watering once a week. Just buy "soil moisture meter" and dip it in before you are due for watering. I usually do that to double check so we get to avoid root rot especially if your soil doesn't drain that much. Also take a note, if your bougainvillea receives too much water, it will become leafy. But if you've got the right watering condition, like letting the soil dry first before watering, you will get the best blooms! And Yeah, soap insecticide will do as well. Good luck and happy planting! 😊
Great job in demonstrating this in just a few mins and straight to the point. Thank you!
Thank you so much! 🤗
I live in Florida and the house that I bought a few years ago has 3 Hibiscus plants (1 of which I bought and planted myself). I never thought about pruning them, but now that the tallest is 7-8 feet tall and the " shortest " is about 6 feet I wondered if I would get more blossoms with these plants brought down to size.
Wow! That's quite huge! Yeah, don't be afraid to prune them. They'll grow back easily!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Good job👍
Thank you! 😊
@@pacificgardener You're welcome 😊
What that's cool
Beautiful garden but many of these plants are poisonous to dogs.
I agree! Just be cautious especially if you have kids and playful pets. Good thing our dogs doesn't mind these plants and they never go to this sloping garden anymore. 👍🏻
Great vid!! I'm recently getting into cacti allot! Love it
Thank you so much! Me too! I'm not a fan of Cacti before, but I'm starting to love them now! 😍 Best plant choices for drought prone areas like where we live and there are huge selections of cacti to choose from. 🌵
Did it live?
Yes! This CM is alive and well despite strong wind storms this spring. I also have updates of this tree on our Instagram account @PacificGardener 🤗
You used straight MG cactus mix? No added perlite/pumice for drainage?
At first, yes. I used Miracle Gro cactus mix alone. Because I thought without perlite and the fact that I'm living here in the desert doesn't require me to water them too often especially every summer were temps are above 110 degrees for weeks. But, that wasn't effective. I'm still watering these two every week when it is scorching hot here! So this spring, I changed the soil for these 2 Golden Barrels, still MG cactus mix and I added a little perlite. 1 scoop of Perlite per 4 scoops of Cactus mix. 💛
Hii want to ask you that how to know which type of ball cactus I have
Hi there! What is the description of your ball cactus? There are several plant identifying apps that you can download were you can take a picture of you cactus and it will show up what plant do you really have. But sometimes they're not reliable and suggests different plant names which are clearly incorrect. If ever, try to search for Barrel Cactus online and select Ferocactus Plant Info from gardeningknowhow. Also, search for 14 Barrel Cacti Types from growing vale website, they have descriptions for different types of ball-type cactuses that can really help you identify what you have. 😊
@@pacificgardener but all these apps work like google lens and google lens is not that good if I paste a pdf of my cactus here will you identify it
@@MarvelCraft1234 I'm sorry. It's too risky to open files even pdfs or links. You can take a picture of your plant and DM it to the Pacific Gardener Instagram account. Hope this helps. 👍🏻
Bhe how to plant tulips?😅🤣🤣
Marz, soon! Hehehe. 😂 I'm not yet familiar with tulips, but very soon! 🌷
I have golden barrel too but it has smaller roots almost to none. I have repotted it by changing the soil. At the same time. Didn't let it dry for a week outside. But I haven't watered the pot yet. Is it ohk. Or is it a compulsion to let it dry only outside, not inside the pot with pure dry soil.
Hi there! That's good that you checked and rescued your Golden Barrel Cactus. Once the cactus was transferred to a new dry soil, you can water it after 1 week. And then, water your cactus according to the location, climate and/or season you have. For me, here in Southwest US which is a desert region, I water these Golden Barrels weekly on summer season, then every 2 weeks for the rest of the seasons. They stayed outdoors all the time on bright indirect sun. Just make sure your new potting soil drains water quickly, to avoid root rot. 👍🏻
