"I'm calling for men to take control of their own lives again." - Camille Paglia, Feminist.
There should really be a lot more people like her. Camille is a feminist, but she has really earned my respect, simply for being actually for equality, not equity, and not female supremacy.

Based. Men can learn a lot from women. I have. My own mother has a lot in common with Camille in the sense that she's always been "gender non-conforming" (for lack of a better word) while also being very loving and caring. She's always been more assertive and ambitious than my dad lol, so in a lot of ways I picked up on the essences of manhood from watching my mom as opposed to my phlegmatic, almost manchild-like dad.
Anyway yes I think if it were more acceptable for Gen Z women to have the kind of wisdom, sense, and strength of character that Camille Paglia does, I think men and women would be on better terms. Instead we have identity politics and "yasssss queen I'm queerrrrr, I'm fierceeee" and black-and-white thinking.

"Its up to women themselves to protect themselves", very good. Extension of the idea that the best way to deal with bullying is to offer self defense. She is putting her finger on something really important and apparently unknown to modern people, namely, that freedom and risk are interwoven.

Yes. As I understand, they have kind of a similar family heritage ("working class" if you will), are self-made man/woman and both have got to know all parts of society during their working lifes. Their thoughts are original and bear a lot of truth in them because they first look at reality and then apply or reject theories based on that. Not like many professors of today who first learn a theory/ideology and then with a big amount of ignorance try to squeeze and adjust reality to their preferred theory. Paglia and Peterson represent to a much greater extent the spirit of the original universal scholars who embody the essence of what a university is - or rather: should be.

Love the libertarian chick at the end. Sensible. Clear-minded. Strong. Nobody's victim. And Camille hit the ball out of the park, as usual. These are people to get "excited about" --independent thinkers with some actual philosophical grounding, aside from cheap political stuffing.
I love Camille from dawn until sundown, but will call her out on her biggest weakness: her atheism. It's a damaging bit of cant, on her part.
A well-argued agnostic stance would be smarter for her body of work, in terms of logistics: she will die and be known as an atheist. And there's nothing so insufferable as an atheist ... aside from a wig-wacking fundamentalist ... and those two disparate creatures are frighteningly alike.
But I love the way her mind works. I wish our universities were filled with minds like this. Our kids would THRIVE with perceptive thinkers like her.
All hail, Camille, and I mean it.

Right before Winston and Julia gets caught by the thought police in 1984 Winston goes into an entire dialogue about a Pole woman. How strong and sturdy she was. One thing I wish she'd point out more. Is how men form relationships with other men as well. One thing we've noticed in studying is that men form longer lasting friendships with other men. While female relationships don't last as long for women in being friends with women. Men I theorize had to form these bonds to other men because of the nature of being a hunter, and a warrior. You had to trust them, with your life. We form these close bonds that don't die easily. Also that men don't have to say as much they say much more via body language. We can tell a story with looks rather than words.

    • @Broatch6

pretty good points here … men have always been more club-able … wo-men tend more to bitch … men just have this emotional honesty … guess if U're facing a wild bear or a fierce tiger a bit of honesty helps … trouble with wo-men is this emotional dishonesty .. wo-men don't really do rules … never have .. never will .. tends to be every gall for herself

One question I'd have for feminists who claim women and men are the same is, "Then what is trans? If you change from one thing to another that is identical, what is that change?". I've encountered a similar question from Jordan Peterson, "If women and men are the same, what are the hormones for?". It would be very interesting to hear what Camille Paglia thinks about such subjects, both from her statement that gender studies needs to incorporate biology, and that she considers herself "trans" in some way that did not require hormones.

  • @allenandrews2380

On point! Rejection of historical narratives absolutely underminds any progress made by marginalized people. This is why we have witnessed such a paradoxical regression in so called " progressivism" If civilization denies its growing pains and violent origins through hundreds of thousands of years of trial and error, how exactly do we measure progress? Consciousness is transcendent and transformative. Thanks Camille for steering us toward a renaissance instead of a new dark age. Been there, done that!!! Mad love.

I wont call them feminists because they are not looking for equal rights for women, they are looking for special privileges for women and people of color as well as muslims (almost forgot transtrenders), and they have made the straight white male the enemy.

I agree that women want to be with other women, we are starving for it. I think that's one reason why Taylor Swift has become so hugely popular among younger women, it's a chance for them to be together and enjoy themselves.

Demand for equality of treatment demonstrates that we are in fact not equal otherwise there would be no need for the permission seeking. That said, we should all be treated with reciprocity. Equality isn’t a stable position because people are not actually equal but reciprocity is a demonstrable measure of interaction that can be adjudicated scientifically in value neutral language.

You fail to see the difference between the terms. "Cis-gender" refers to gender identity, whilst "straight" refers to sexual orientation. You don't have to agree with those things. Nevertheless, in the original definition of those words, a gay person can be cis-gender and a straight person can be trans-gender. The words aren't interchangeable and therefore it wouldn't work just fine.

@@kilimi7710 Thanks. I guess I don't understand how someone knows he feels like a woman unless it involves sexual orientation. What does it even mean to identify as a woman?

    • @kilimi7710
      @kilimi7710 4 года назад

@@Batosai11489That's the exact question I'm trying to figure out right now. I'm having a serious existential crisis and also an identity crisis myself. All that I know is that feeling like a woman/man and being sexually attracted to women/men is only partially interrelated. Hencewhy most women (cis or trans) are attracted to men (and vice versa) but the few women who are attracted to women are somehow still identifying as women. But interestingly gay women/men tend to have the communication styles of the opposite gender and other things, like CP stated in the talk. So massive confusion on my side. Maybe I'll come to findings in this topic in the future but right now I have pretty much no clue.
Also I myself don't know how it feels like to be a certain gender, I just magically feel "masculine". I can't put my finger on why I feel like a man.
With my comment before I just wanted to specify the terms.

USA neeeds «MORE PARTIES». Paglia says, 1:03:50 - 1:04:04, because having just «the two» makes politics into a bland porrage, so we meed «drastic reform of PARTY STRUCTURE». But what it boils down to is reforming the election. In USA the election is ‘for presiden’, while in Europe the election is ‘FOR A RULING PARTY’. In the latter most coallitions can be finalized AFTER the election, whereas in the former they need to be finalized BEFORE each election. So what it boils down to is reforming «election for president» into «election for a ruling party», which is a drastic reform of PROCESS structure, not reform of party structure. The latter is a natural consequence of the former, and can only come through the former.

I really want to know, if they could be a lot more specific, what exactly do women want to be able to do or think or say that they currently are not able to??
I saw in one episode of a series on Netflix ("Scandal"), a scene of a woman running for president, and she was being interviewed, and she was introduced as "a true Cinderella success story, and here we are in her home to see..."
and the candidate was offended, she said she resented the reporter for presenting her like that and doing the interview in her kitchen and putting in the background homely things... she ranted about "this is not how I spend my day, this is not the way my home looks on a normal day..." she called that structural sexism and other nasty catch phrases....
I'm confused by that, because the same is done to men all the time, a man would look weak and feminine in that setting for example, and and there is no precise setting a candidate is supposed to be interviewed....
Do women want to redo or modify language itself from its roots?? that is just not possible, language evolution or advancement is organic, if something works IN LANGUAGE, is almost immediately assimilated by society, and society is driven towards stability, specially in political power circles.... so unless women say to these situations "We know it doesn't work like that, but we gotta start SOMEPLACE sometime!!" Is that it??
Anyhow, my confusion persists as I think of situations like these, and I can't seem to understand the problem.
Any comments on this topic would be appreciated.
