thank you so much for this, my cat's kitten were shut i thought it became blind i wiped its eye with the wet cotton and minutes later it turns out he just has crust in his eyes, i'm so relieved ❤
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this video, we had a kitten with one eye open one shut and we will try this tonight, I really appreciate your help! This is my first batch of kittens so I am very new.
Good luck!! So happy I could help.
Thank you so much! Dealing with this in just one of our 5 kittens, her eye opened and then closed the next day, and then this morning had a bit of crust. No pus once the eye got unstuck though! Going to keep her nice and clean and thanks for having such a calm video on the issue 🥰❤️
Fantastic! It's a normal thing but it can be stressful if you don't know what is going on. Make sure to subscribe for more as I add content all the time.
I rescued a pregnant kitten and she finally had her babies and one baby had this exact problem and I was really worried until i saw this video, thank you so much.
Oh wow! Glad I could help. Thank you for rescuing them. I hope they all find great homes as desexed pets 🥰🥰🥰
I'm having the same exact issue! I was so scaredzz
I cleaned my kittens because one is open the other is super shut but it still wouldn’t open at all :/ it looks very odd
Exactly as I've known to work, both from reasoning and the vets. Thanks for spreading this technique for all (I don't often, but needed to when rescuing abandoned ones especially; moms can lose count when they relocate). In proper care, mom is constantly licking clean her brood. At times they get missed, or, if no mom, then you become mom. Sterile warm water is the best solvent for anything on (or out of) cats. You're a dear for this care, thanks!
Thank you for the great advice.
You are so welcome!
Thx for this video. I followed the instructions and noticed that both eyes were open at one point, but later ie next day both eyes were shut again. Is this normal?
Yes they can keep doing it for days. You just keep cleaning and ointment till they come good.
@@CatBreedingforBeginners what if this happens at about 7 weeks old? Same procedure?
Thank you so much for this tips! 😘
Kind regards from Romania
You're so welcome! I am excited that my videos are being watched in Romania!

Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope it helped
hi i know this video is pretty old but one of my kittens had both eyes open but now has one closed , would i need to help as well or ?
Will it work if kitten’s way past eye opening period?!? Prolly 1/2 months old?!?
Yes absolutely
My kitten also one eye only then the other eye was shut.. i will tru this method tonight.
Hi my kitten is 19 days old. At 15 days, one eye was open and the other was shut. Now both are shut. Shall we do whats in this video?
Yes 100% but also antibacterial ointment and vets if it gets worse as they age it could be herpes or an ulcer.
3:00 lmfao I love him
🤪
Our 5 kittens are 10 days old and one of them still has shut eyes. Contemplating interfering but still hoping they open on their own.
Hello i know this is an old video but i rescued a stray who was pregnant her babies are 14 days old and all have opened their eyes except one of them and one has one eye open and one eye closed. I know it can take up to 16 days but im worried since the rest of them have opened their eyes. What do i do?
I am currently going’s through same thing, please tell me what you did, the kittens are 15 days old
@@Sophiecatttsorry for the late response! I seperated him from his litter mates and bottle fed him for about a day, he was the runt and just wasn't getting enough attention, I left him to open his eyes on his own but he never did so I put warm water on my finger and gently encouraged his eyes to open.
Curious, what would happen for feral cats. Is it rain which keeps them pus free??? Just curious.
Oh they get pus. The pressure in the closed lid builds up till it forces the eye open and the pus leaks out. But the infection can cause painful ulcers. They will lose the eyes and if they are newborns they can die from infection. Feral cats have regular size litters but the amount of kittens that actually make it into adulthood is only a small proportion. ☹️.
@@CatBreedingforBeginners Oh Wow! That’s one of the many reasons they birth so many in one litter. Thank you for indulging my curiosity. I actually found your channel because I was wondering, the physical process of how their eyes begin to open.
Correct me if I’m wrong, I understand you to say that their eyes are fused together and in time, the muscles relax, releasing the pressure on the eyes, to slowly begin to open.
I’m the type to ponder EVERYTHING and so I appreciate content creators, like yourself, which allow me too, to open my eyes and expand my mind! God Bless you.
what causes it? does it ever go away on its own?
It’s bacteria that gets in when the eye first opens then it closes from the infection and seals in the bacteria. It will eventually blow out but you risk eye ulceration or losing the eye if you let it get that bad. It’s easy to clean and treat.
I have a kitten her eyes opened but it keeps closjng and opening for some reason anyone know why
Bacterial infection maybe. Ointment will help plus it lubricates the edges of the lids and helps them open. Keep cleaning it like in the video as it will build up behind the lid. Eventually it will stay open. If not and it gets worse you need to go to the vets.

I hope it was helpful :)
@@CatBreedingforBeginners really helpful 😊
This is not good for kittens it can damage their eyes pls let their eyes open on their own
Frisk sorry but you are wrong. Yes you should not open a kittens eyes. Yes they open naturally on their own but this is not about that. This is about when they open, get bacteria in them and close again. If you leave them like that they will fill with pus. They will eventually burst and leak that pus on the other kittens. Even worse the eye can ulcer or the eye ball can rupture. I think that was very clear in the video. Maybe watch it again?
Thanks for the clarification. I have 4 kittens 15 days old and only one has both eyes shut. I don't think it was ever open, I just think it's not going to open. Its dry and crusty. I tried this with wet warm papertowel. One eye opened. I'm not forcing it thou, I'm too scared to. I'm just going to wet it often over the next couple days. My question was how much pressure to put into trying to open it, but by the time this gets a reply I would have figured it out(hopefully).
@@Tomnicianhow did it go? Sorted out?
@@DavidYoel13 Considering you are probably here for the same reason, and that was 2 weeks ago, you probably figured it out.
Everything turned out fine. I just kept wetting the eyes a couple times a day. Eventually they popped open but I never forced it.
Hoping your situation is going well!
The kitten I have this problem with is very animated and vocal about this process. She really wants me to give her back to mama.
DONT OPEN A NEWBORNS EYES IT CAN DAMEG THERE EYE SIGHT
Look I don’t mean to be rude but it’s hard to take your advice WHEN YOU YELL AT ME. Also maybe watch the video before you comment??
What should i do if my cats didn't open his eyes yet? 13 days have passed
@jzjndnx2338 pretty sure it can take up to 16 days. I'm assuming they have opened by now?
@@lilydilly86 yapp thankfully they did, i was concerned because they were born first and didn't open yet meanwhile my other kittens from my other cats were born after them and opened quickly
@jzjndnx2338 from what I've read it can be 8-16 days so apparently they were working on their own schedule hahaha
