Would love to hear about off-field performance. Love seeing the tailwheel configuration!
Combining the renowned Sling handling with the classic high wing design is a brilliant move, promising both practicality and fuel efficiency. The inclusion of modern safety features like the ballistic parachute recovery system and the low workload Garmin glass cockpit showcases a thoughtful approach to pilot and passenger well-being.👍
So glad you talked about this. I am a high-wing preference student pilot and was always interested in the Sling from an LSA point of view but got turned off because of the low wing aspect. I love your videos and information you have to offer!
Mike, you ARE the American Dream. Well done sir!
The sling numbers are insane!
Your TSI looks awesome mate! Love the alloy look
Hello fellow Sanderson
Thank you Mike !
Thanks Mike. Would have never considered this brand without your reviews. I LOVE the high wing variant!!
Great videos. I've been watching you for about a week.
Love the high wing design. Just got my ppl in a 172. Complex endorsement in a Mooney M20J. I liked the sports car feel of the M20J but getting in and out was a pain.
I was impressed with the m20's rudder, so easy for full deflection & it's a big rudder...& it's a nice quick plane!
I'm thinking of doing the same (no endorsement needed in Canada) transitionning from a 172M, what's the most difficult for you in this transition?
@@TheBarzook the Mooney is much faster so staying ahead of the airplane in the pattern is quicker. Because of the speed factor the plane floats longer in ground effect. So speed control upon landing is much more important.
@Adventure South Life
You didnt learn inJandakot did u?
Mike, as noted in another video post, Im a newbie. Love yr content, thank you. Im currently digging thru all yr vids. Keep up the fine work. 👍
Good job with this video, well done!
High wing looks more spacious, super 👌 plane!
Can't wait. I have a slot in the top 5.
How many slots, 5?
Pretty sure you feel special about that🥱
Good insight sir.
I watch your videos faithfully. Thank you for doing this.
Ive been waiting on this HW
Superb!
Thanks Mike, a very informative and pleasant to listen to.
I think the candourist (JP) and Linda Sollars could give you a lot more informations about the Sling High Wing as they are the first two owners of Sling HW and have flown their plane from SA to US.
One comment I loved the most from you was the fact(especially w/fam.)that you're equipped with the chute system!🤗...with the hopes you NOT EVER need to use it! As always, safe take offs, flying, & landings!
Hey guy...your programs are really good. Thanks for your fine effort in teaching us about aviation. I really wish you would do more programs as you are flying. Take us with you
Sweet airplane! Thanks, Mike!
Here's the thing that I am struggling with Mike: for $350,000 I can probably find a pretty nice Cirrus SR22 which is a bigger, heavier plane. Downside is that it will be used and is a fuel hog. But the upside is that I don't have to build one or wait. Thanks for being so transparent with the cost breakdown. I've been following your journey for years. Ed
This is true Ed. You have to weigh in all pros and cons based on your pocket and mission.
Yeah but the operating costs are less than half, so not really too smart, but really depends on your mission and if you are willing to burn money, cause ..... you could fly twice the time .... and thats all we whant, fly ;)
equiped with avionis as Mike's plane? how many hrs till TBO ? etc etc.
No chance - SR22 is going to be $700K. 2x fuel burn? $350 is a fantasy number for a new SR22. Used Slings? MAybe $250K? Give it some time if you want the market to fill out a bit.
Maybe an SR20 but your not finding a SR22 for 350k
You are the best 👍🏻
I hadn't even thought about the ease of egress/ingress with a high wing vs low wing.
A few other things; in a low-wing, when you're taxiing in that bubble canopy, it becomes very hot very quickly under the summer sun. High-wing offers a bit of a shade, and you can safely open doors while moving on the ground. One more bit; when you land somewhere in the rain, you can open your doors, step out of the aircraft and open your umbrella while standing under your wings.
The wing also offers a nice shade when you're sitting under it in a folding chair, parked near the flight line in Oshkosh.
My wife has problems with movement and I tried her in a Cessna 172 before planning to fly her in one. I'm working on private pilot and probably straight to instrument so we can fly places without her having to make her way through a commercial airport. I'd love the high wing TSI but right now I don't see me having the money to cover it.
@@randyspice5470 if mobility issues are a concern, look into the Cessna 177 Cardinal. It’s huge doors and no struts make it perhaps the easiest GA single to get in and out of on the planet.
@@cessna177flyer3 They don’t make them anymore
@@WattsUpDev you are correct. The last Cardinal was manufactured in 1978. Most people buy used airplanes these days. A new Cessna 172 is almost $500,000. The Cardinal is still well-supported by Cessna and is a fantastic airplane, especially for transporting people with mobility issues.
1:48 Impressive video scene.
Nice video. I'm partial to the RANs s21 they've got a high wing already that's well proven and multiple engine options.
Good airplane but lacks in the looks department for those of us who aren’t bush plane fans
God I want one if these! I need a winning lotto ticket!
Must be a small jackpot. Lovely plane but lotto money opens up a lot of choices. :)
Mr mike you are an inspiration to me, i have been watching your videos for a while now and seeing your progress over the years its amazing the things you have accomplish, because of you I am here presently studying ground school on my own for the written test after which I will go learn to fly, I have some questions I would like to ask you not just about the flying part, but also about the plane building business that you started
I really hope they make a 6-seater. When we were going for our 2nd kid we ended up with twins… cant ditch one…!
Damn congrats 🍾 I’ve thought about this same predicament lol
Haven't seen you for a while. Good review. Plane looks sweet.
Thanks for sharing very informative.
I'm an old-school aircraft enthusiast but not a licensed pilot. My question is how does the highwing version of this aircraft compare to the Cessna ?
Thank you Sir! As always, great information and well presented.
You’ve come a long way, Mike. Excellent presentation of the HiWing. It really is an interesting plane
I'm looking forward to the day God says "Yes.. go ahead and buy yourself a plane." I just want BC at the end of my N number to represent Brick City (Newark). Love your videos! 📽🛩🎬
Thanks Mojo, great vid! How does this new Sling compare to the Glasair Sportsman, which is a pretty similar experimental plane design? Would love to hear a comparison of price, performance, interior space, range, hours to completion, etc.
Thank you…
Hi Mike,
So you can't get the Rotax 915is turbo engine in the high wing? And would you say the annual cost for the high wing is similar to the TSI? You did a video on your TSI annual cost which came out to about $24,000 not counting engine OH. So glad it is offered in a tail dragger version. Thanks Mike. Ally Phillips
Are you currently building Sling kit planes at lookup aviation? If not, when will you start?
Currently building a TSi yes!
Hi Mike, I think the two kits that look most exciting to me are the Sling HW here, and also the Veloce 400. Have you ever reviewed the Veloce? I generally prefer high wing planes, but this Veloce is nice.
Great video MIke, love this channel! Question: I'll be going through this decision soon, and I have a question regarding the back seat, which is something I've been thinking about. Is it not possible to remove the back seat in a Sling Tsi (low wing) if you need extra cargo space? If removing and installing on a regular bases is not easy, what about just not installing it when you build it if you don't think you'd need it and would rather have more cargo space?
Can you do a review on the Stewart s-51D sometime?
High wings rule!
Great presentation. Really enjoy your video's.
Mike, is the highwing like a Cessna 172 or 182? Would love to see you compare between the highwing and the 182. I am in flight school and really thinking about owning a airplane.
Can it be attached to floats so that it can land and take-off on water?
How much does it cost?
Who picked those glasses frames for you? Ricky Vaughn?
All these new aircraft are so beautiful and fantastic. I wish an average middle class income earner like myself could afford one and not be resorted to planes nearly twice my age in order to get into flying. Flying for work is just not the same as flying for fun. One can always dream. Thanks for the video.
Rent, don't buy.
Or buy the old plane and finance it for 10y to lower the payment. Get one that is way nice and maintained, it will be more expensive than you would normally consider but it will probably save you $10s of thou$ands of dollars in annuals and repairs. It's possible to put $50,000 into an old $20,000 airplane and have it still be un-airworthy. But if you buy a $80,000 plane in the first place, it might fair a lot better. The payments are actually pretty low. Once it's paid off it will be worth the same or more than you paid, and that's a huge chunk toward a new plane.
Yes, the more affordable airplanes will be older, but can still be beautiful and fantastic (I own one). The most important thing is to fly, even if you have to rent.
Look at a Sonix
Ditto
Can you fit it with floats?
Hi Mike, really helpful and thoughtful video, thank you so much! I was wondering, for IFR, what specific avionics did you end up using? Have you by chance published that list anywhere? ie., the full list/specifics of what you've put in your magnificent TSi. I figure what you've put in will be a current benchmark if someone is looking for an IFR-capable Sling. The Sling team look like a really wonderful group of people and I'm thinking in the years to come they will be a major international force in GA. Your great aircraft choice and customisation, and Sling's choice of Rotax, speaks for itself! Blue Skies from Down Under!
Just remember that every bird know to man is a high wing, There has to be something in that ?
Hi, what is the cost for getting the vfr license. Do you provide with building the TSI high wing?
Thanks MOJO!!! When you have Time, Go out too the Seattle Area, check out Dynon, and the Glass Star Sportsman, and the Ranger Aircraft!!! Thanks for your Videos!!!
Good job, Mike, as always....would like to see it on grass or an airstrip that a Kodiak or other bush plane would land.
Good job showing telling, keep up the good work telling see ya next time see ya bye.
This plane has a Sirius type parachute optioN?
Excellent work Mike. When are they going to Hire you as a PR/marketing partner? haha.
Would the new composite and fiberglass parts for the high wind version lower the overall build time?
Is there the possibility of using a different engine? The UL Power UL350iS would be an awesome option.
Yeah, I'd like to know if that new lightweight Turbine engine he reviewed would fit.
I like everything of the new sling high wing except the tail drag configuration . For that price honestly I will go for a tecnan 2010 if they fitted it with a 915 engine .
The Sling High Wing is available with either tricycle gear or taildragger configuration
Why even compare the two, for one the Tecnam is fully certified aircraft (not an experimental), 2nd the Tecnam has a 170hp engine option in its TDI variant that achieves 1000nm.
That's why birds have high wings. I never saw a low wing bird....
Sling economical? C'mon man, you just advertised a 2 seater, used, in 215k!
Bro can you do a video on the Rockwell Commander 114 it's an amazing aircraft that gets no attention. Its nice has a useful load pretty fast and it has 2 doors! You can find a nice one for $40k...
Sorry, more like $200K
@@ttaylor7777 I actually found one at $40k and quite a few at less than $80k 🤷🏽♂️
Well, at least that's an HONEST price assessment. When I ran your TSi numbers, I came up with $275,000 not including your flights back and forth from GA to CA. But, you did 'load it up' with all of the options, didn't skimp on the interior layout, nor avionics. I can understand why the carbon fibre, glass work, etc. is more expensive, and, I sincerely believe that the aircraft is exceptionally well designed for appropriate loading, safe flight envelope with neutral handling characteristics while remaining 'sporty'. The Rotax 915is is the basis for the capabilities of this aircraft- another well engineered product being maximized by the airframe. I'd seriously consider it if I had that large of a budget and I would consider builder assist as a MUST instead of a want. Otherwise, it would end up as $165,000 thrown out the window... I just have the ability to turn parts into an airplane without direction & assistance!
how does it compare stat wise to a 172 or 182?
Looks alot like that red bush plane Draco.
"Looks" just looks.. The Draco is an insane turbine powered beast that can go 180kts/h!.
Mike, you mentioned Lookup aviation can put together a Sling in 90 days. Is that realistic even with a full QB kit and no painting?
Yes
Can you use the BRS PARACHUTE in this.
Why buy when a Tecnam is the same price?
I'd think it would be more a problem always climbing up on a high wing to refuel than climbing up on a low wing for cockpit entry.
Nah, just get a work ladder that has a scaffold setting.
They sell them at Lowe's and Home Depot.
Improvise, Adapt, Overcome is the 2nd Recon motto.
I carry a small step stool in my Cardinal. No biggie. Having two doors is huge for day to day operations. I fill up far less than I get in and out. My 2c.
Low wing enables you to look easy inside the tank. Getting in and out a highwing pipercub isn't that easy. Downwards view in a highwing is good but for example in a 172 making a left turn you need first lift the left wing to check if the coast is clear
Mike, great review.
Do you think the new lightweight Turbine engine you reviewed recently would work well with this airframe?
The lightweight turbine is still a bit heavy for this airframe. It's certainly possible.
Particularly as it was engineered as strut free.
Are you the rep for Sling's build assist program in the US?
Love to see a Sling dual power plant…..
Hi Mike ,the high wing Sling is very amazing.Aircraft cost alot of money, why could'nt the manufactuerer build an eight or twelve seater aircraft, for shorter cmmercial purpose. Thanks Levi
Mike
since the Slings are experimental, any thoughts of using the Levil Aviation products to cut down on instrument costs?
Cool but way too pricey. Looking forward to RV-15.
Might be a good aircraft for me, as a disabled guy
Can you open the windows in flight?
I don't see why it wouldn't, at least a storm window
Can you convert tricycle gear Sling HW to taildragger and back? Thanks!
Yes you can!
Is the high wing STOL capable in the Outback-Alaskan wilderness- daily brutal off field work load? It’s a beautiful plane, but will $350,000 get the 'JOB’ done. Will it be earning respect hauling hunters, oilfield workers and livestock? Will business’ regret not buying two, while the price was low?
Are there full builders that do it all?
$350K? a lot of other options in this price range
@mojogrip Mike, true airspeed is all that matters when you are talking performance and comparing one airplane to another. I’m not sure why you only look at indicated airspeed (which changes with air density) and ground speed (which changes with wind component). Neither of those reflect the actual performance of the airplane - kinda like measuring height when everyone is wearing different shoes…
Well comparing planes in the same situation indicated airspeed is all what matters to compare .
@@dushidog6488 not true. I suggest you Google “the difference between indicated, calibrated, and true airspeed”. Even if flying in tight formation, the indicated airspeeds of two different airplanes can be different due to instrument calibration. In my airplane, I have to subtract 4 mph from my indicated airspeed to compute my calibrated airspeed. From my calibrated airspeed, I can determine my true airspeed. Comparing indicated to indicated is NOT an accurate comparison.
@@cessna177flyer3 i learned things before google existed...BTW CAS is IAS in theory . Gues why in flight manuals IAS/CAS is mentioned for stallspeeds, entree speeds for loops rolls snaprolls etc etc. BTW when i fly tight formationn I only look at the plane next to me, to dangerous to waist even a second looking at the pannel...
1:44 Lose the cape.
Nice plane, not price.
For that kind of money you can purchase a new Maule from the factory.
You can’t work on it tho and it won’t be loaded to the gills with all the tech and a turbo….
@@Captndarty And you don't have to wait 2 years to fly it plus not all home builds are built without some sort of error. I've help build a Christine eagle in my past and that was a ton of work and a 2.5 year build working 5 - 6 hours daily...
Yes but you still have a old fashion plane, with fabric, with a big engine guzzling fuel like crazy and at the rate of fuel price increase, this Maule will only gather dust in the long term...
Qcan I buy a fully built plane
OK, four standard pax plus your equipment of 300# adds up to more than a thousand without fuel?? MayB two adults and two kids and day luggage with reduced fuel. Most modern avionics are pretty light where is your 300 number coming from? The plane looks like my Cardinal and that uses 8 to 10 gallons when properly leaned out.
Lots of options in aircraft. Hydraulic prop vs fixed, ballistic chute, oxygen, avionics, autopilot, extra alternator or not. I’m sure there are many other options that can add weight. As in a pipistrel which I own many options, ie air brakes, stronger landing gear, larger fuel tanks etc etc.
🤗
what is this
I am from India 🇮🇳 l love ❤ ch750cruse
But my poket is impty🙃🙃
First comment and like 😁
Both the TSi and the HW are 880 nm according to the Sling website, not 1000 nm.
Published TAS for the TSi is 148 KTAS not 155. You mention ground speeds.. thats TAS influenced by wind.
The Rotax does not kick down power output, the pilot needs to reduce max rpm to max continuous.
He said 1000 miles.. not nautical miles
@@EricSimoneau In aviation we deal with nautical miles.
18 months for a Sling … with build assist. That’s a long time waiting for a $360k plane.
That’s not a standard production time, what he’s saying is there are currently back orders/a waiting list and that may be due to Covid 😅 so all you need to do is what and obtain your kit then your build time starts. Regardless whether it’s a new certified plane or not you still have to wait unless you purchase from the inventory in stock.
strange that you used the European comma as a decimal in your video, and then used it as an American Style comma 3-Digit place holder in the price. Consistent? no.
Oh mikey how you have grown! This is a marketing piece for your company, not a review of the HW. Nothing wrong with that - but you are now targeting a different audience than just a couple years ago. Most folks think about a kit build so they can afford to get into aviation. $350k is likely outside their budget for a home let alone a "hobby". There is a point way before this number where a nice, proven Cessna 182 with steam gauge six pack is viable even with the additional A&P maintenance costs. There is also joy in building your own airplane, even if it takes 5 years or more. Anyway, the HW is really nice and will be the most successful Sling in the stable. Best to you!
