Enjoy the flight!
I remember these old jets being smokey, but that was totally over the top. Looked like all 3 engines were on fire
Arguably the worst smoke I've seen in the sim.
I flew this wonderful workhorse of an aircraft for 7 years and it’s still one of my favourite aircraft of all time. I truly enjoy flying her in the SIM now and it really takes me back to much better days of aviation. Now if someone can produce a DC-8 all my wishes would be complete!
I guess you wished you had an APU on your DC8 to cool the cockpit a very hot day on the tarmac?
Wow, where did you fly??
Isnt the sim underwhelming after flying the real thing? I know a private pilot who used to be big into sims but now that he owns his own plane and flies for real he has zero interest in flight sims.
bro you were just in blu comment section saying you flew airbuses nobody believes you you twat
Very cool!
Someone put diesel in by mistake.
I am currently flying as a Flight Engineer on one of the last 727s in the US, so in the interest of accuracy I will point out a few mistakes.
At 8:45 you referred to the Yaw Damper Engage switches on the captains forward panel as “Fuel Dump Switches” …The fuel jettison (dump) panel is located on the Flight Engineer’s aft auxiliary panel, not on front panel.
After you started the APU and you went back to the Battery indications, your video showed the DC AMPS needle off scale low to the left, which is a negative 50 AMPS. This needle should be closer to straight up pointing to -0+
After engine start the 2 white synchronization lights on the AC electrical panel should be blinking, not steady as your video shows. When you turn those FREQ adjusting knobs for each generator, those blinking lights will slow down and speed up. When the lights are extinguished (between blinks) that indicates that the generator is in a condition to accept parallel operation. Unlike the 707, the 727 has an auto paralleling feature and this manual paralleling procedure only come into use during some electrical malfunctions.
Then, when you closed the #3 generator breaker, the RED Essential Power FAIL light came on. This is inaccurate since the APU will continue to power the Essential Bus and the red light will stay extinguished.
The before takeoff checklist should have a step for arming the AUTO PACK TRIP SWITCH. On the after-takeoff checklist where you move the Auto Pack Trip Switch from NORMAL to CUT OUT, your video showed the green ARMED light going out. This is inaccurate as the light will automatically go out when the flaps are up.
were you ever on the Getty 727? It was based here in Sacramento for a while but I heard it has been retired and sent elsewhere.
@@rolex87 I never flew it but my friend was the Flight Engineer on that jet for a long time. Very fun job.
My first flight was on an American 727… Detroit to Dallas then on to Vegas. 1983. I was 11 years old. I found my plastic pilot’s wings while cleaning out my parent’s house. Thanks for the video
The jet smoke is really bad. looks terrible
it looked better, something messed it up... I think if he using SimFX it will mess it up, but not sure.
I was waiting to see what you were talking about. It was obvious and I thought,"Oh." Yeah, that's pretty bad.
FSS improved it in the most recent update (1.0.4). It looks a lot better now
Particule effects hammer your FPS too. Should akways be able to disable such .fx files
I agree, the one in FS2004 looks more realistic
The latest version has fixed the smoke and flight model is way better, it's a beautiful plane to fly. They also modified the textures so American is now shiny reflective aluminium .
lol the smoke like a sharpie on my screen
Recently retired, wrenched for a year on "The Harley" in 1989 and flew 3 more years as FO. The 727 was my favorite airliner - a true pilot's airplane. Solid as a rock on final, and loved the basic airmanship it required to operate it. It did take a while to get going - I do remember seeing the last 2000" of runway a lot... 😱
I barely remember any of the specifics though. All I remember from the panel is "High, high, bleed, pack" after takeoff, and if anything went wrong, everyone had to shout in unison "CHECK ESSENTIAL!!!". The panel was a bit intimidating at first, but after about a month there was that one day when being the FE abruptly went from busy to boring. The manual spoilers on landing meant you could really kiss it on like a feather. Of course the swept wings also meant the occasional controlled crash. 😜
I'm flying FE on one of the last 727s in service in the US. You are correct about the 2 pilots shouting "CHECK ESSENTIAL" on V1 cuts, loss of all generators, and many other engine and electrical malfunctions. My response is either ESSENTIAL ON OPERATING GENERATOR or ESSENTIAL ON STANDBY. Makes more sense for the guy controlling the ESSENTIAL Power switch to actually state what he's doing than to shout check ESSENTIAL.
@@johnduffy5448 Congrats! That's a pretty sweet ride you've got there. Probably the only times I participated in the CHECK ESSENTIAL! contest was in the sim, and it was the two pilots up front arguing over who yelled it first, and I'm back on the panel thinking hey pipe down, I'm trying to figure out what's going on here... 😜
No matter how improved our GPU's become there are always some things that still seem unachievable thus far. Human eyes and facial expressions, human motion in general really. And also the perceived randomness of physics. The aircraft looks beautiful, but when landing for example still looks too static in its build. No wobble or wing flex, bounce. I know these things aren't easy to achieve, but one day we will get there.
Great video! Why was the exhaust so cartoonish? Is that something in the model that’s adjustable? Cheers! Greg
The exhaust effect is being updated.
In the 1980's I remember flying out of San Antonio International on an AA 727 and due to noise abatement the aircraft took a very steep angle. Great fun really!
It's always INSANE REALISM until the daytime sunlight effects look like a cartoon.
Loudest and the most beautiful bird in the skies..... especially when smoking trail goes as far as you can see.
This is a beautiful jet ..Thanks for showing her off!!
I stumbed upon this video while looking at truck simulator videos. I am not involved with any flight sim program, but found that the presentation of this plane was extremely thorough and fascinating! Thank you for such a great introduction to this historical aircraft! My interest in flight sims has been piqued!
One of the first planes I ever flew on (1971) and one of my favorites. Crazy climb angles and a very cool design with wonderfully complex wings (love the three-slotted and Krueger flaps). As you mention, JT8Ds weren't nearly that smokey, plus most of the three-holers still flying have been hush-kitted. I know this is supposed to be a throwback, but as cool as that INS is, most current '27s have FMS and even at least partial (ADI and HSI/ND) glass panels, so that would be a good option (as well as the wx radar you mention).
Re AP, just about every a/c in MSFS has problems with that in my experience. Everything's fine, and then I get an uncommanded roll (generally to the left) requiring disengagement to reset it (and sometimes that doesn't even work--they'd better have resolved that for 2024).
BtW, the Panhandle is well northwest of Tampa (it's the narrow E/W bit on the north Gulf Coast).
Amazing! You have helped rekindle my interest in FS. Thank you!
I used to fight to KMIA in the late 80s and 80s on the Americans 727s. The good old says.
Another great review ITBS, I think the exhaust smoke on take off was a tad excessive for a 727, The devs must be thinking of a TU-154! 😂
FSS improved it in the most recent update (1.0.4). It looks a lot better now
Love it! amazing no master caution and engine fire procedure lol
Absolutely love my 4090. Completely changed my sim.
I would totally get behind this and buy it as I was once a two-seven flight engineer. Everything looks spot-on except the glaringly wrong yokes. Aircraft yokes are like DNA. You can see a random yoke and know instantly what it belongs to. A Boeing yoke is iconic and its a shame FSS went to the effort of creating an otherwise immaculate 727-200 but came up short on an item that is so front and center in the cockpit. The "horns" don't go straight up, they are canted at an outward angle. When CaptainSim released their 757, I noticed the yoke was similarly incorrect and brought it up in their forum. They fixed it. I bought the plane. PMDG 737 yokes are as correct as can be for what its worth.
What a great review and flight!
I love the way they modeled the cockpit. Looks very realistic to me. Good on the rudder like you said, the rotation looked very smooth and heavy, as expected for a plane this size and age. Systems modeling seems to be good too. Is this a new heavyweight among MSFS airliners?
29:07 the outside noise is unrealistic. I remember hush-kitted 727s taking off regularly in the mid-1990s from YSSY. The noise was so loud it felt like the atmosphere might actually fracture. By a huge margin the loudest aircraft I’ve ever experienced. BTW, yes they were smoky, but that simulated smoke is too dense. Otherwise, what an impressively simulated aircraft-loved the procedures too.
Very well done video, thanks for the detailed intro to this beautiful airplane. For the smoke effect, I guess I would try something like Parallel42.
I remember flying on a 727 in like 2001 from TPA to JFK. First time I remember flying.
They always say insane realism on these flight sim videos. And for the most part they are. Yet mostly every one of them skips the tire smoke on touch down. C'mon how hard could it be to add that in.
I love your videos ITB, thanks for making them.
Great video, as always! You are running an old version of the addon here though, in V1.0.4 the flight model, textures and effects had a massive update. In addition, the systems have been worked on. The differences are such that I feel a rerecording may be warranted, the aircraft is portrayed in a way that doesn't reflect the current product in my opinion. The development team are also working on a way to alert the user as to whether there has been a crash in the WASM modules, which may have been the cause of your autopilot issues. These issues usually crop up before powering up the aircraft, and a restart of the flight tends to fix them.
Hello MM,
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks very much for the info and it’s great to hear that the FSS team are continuing to work on the addon.
At the time of recording, I was running the most up-to-date version of the aircraft (I downloaded the addon from the “Aerosoft One” portal and started recording immediately). My videos do take a couple of days to create however, so it’s certainly possible that the addon was updated again, ahead of the video’s release. Unfortunately, I can’t cater my content to each new update otherwise, for better or worse with some developers, I would be left chasing my tail. All this being said, I very much enjoyed the 727 so, I’m sure it will feature on the channel again, at some point : )
I hope the above doesn’t come across as argumentative / defensive; I’m simply trying to clarify why there may be a disparity between the version of the product reviewed and the current version available.
Many thanks again and all the best!
Long live the tri-jets!!
Amazing graphics, but the trail of black smoke from the engine's exhaust during takeoff & climb looks ridiculous. The late-model 727's JT8Ds didn't blow smoke like the early 727's JT8Ds.
That's not the Florida panhandle, it's the peninsula!! The panhandle is the northern part of Florida that's right below Alabama and Georgia. Up around Tallahassee, to the west through Panama City Beach, over to Pensacola.
Sara*SO*ta. Florida panhandle is up on the NW part of the state along the Georgia border. 😉
The 727 is hands down one of my favorite planes..... The only planes that are more interesting would be the Trident or the BAC 1-11 But I grew up flying on the 727.... Love it.
Those small windows above the cockpit windows were there because they did celestial navigation.
I am amazed, this is amazing.
I flew on the actual aa 727 couple of things; The fuselage was almost chrome-like and reflective not matte as seen here and yes had its share of scratches visible through the shiny body work. Even the retro livery on the airbus is incorrect. It would be too expensive for aa to replicate. Btw they did smoke in the 80s but not like this sim turn the effect back at least 80% to translucent. Speaking of which it had ashtrays in the seat arms but they were welded shut.
My favorite aircraft ever in MSFS. I'm absolutely hooked. Although I think the FlyJSim one in Xplane sounded a little better, especially external. And both heat blur and smoke look ridiculous on this one, but I hope they will sort it out.
Remarkable aircraft...Thank you for another wonderful presentation.... Roger.. Pembrokeshire
2:36 looks like the pilot needs the toilet
I also flew B727 in my early aviation career. Amazing aircraft. Lucky to fly all version except the Valsan conversion. So managed to fly the B727-100 and 200, B727QF, and Super27. She was a beast. 🎉 Those were the days. 😊
Purchased this aircraft, but have yet to even fly it. Always so many aircraft to fly and enjoy 😁
Lol!!!! They weren't THAT smoky. Hilarious....
Yes, you should be able to slave the HSI to the inertial Nav!! That's a bug looks like to me. After all it makes sense to be able to fly the INS course on the HSI.
American's best livery. 😊
Make sure those leading edge slats are clear before you open that ground interconnect 😂😂😂
Pov: it's in the 90's
Aonther Good Video Thank Youuu
Looks like the engines are on fire....
Not even an F-4 Phantom fighter smoked that badly!! They need to fix the graphics for that.
Excellent video. The older airliners like this and the F-28 are a welcome addition to the sim but they're getting harder to fly, at least in the U.S., due to the wholesale decommissioning of VOR's. We used to have a VOR or NDB on every street corner. Now they're on their way to becoming extinct. SID's and STAR's based on VOR's have already disappeared.
One minor correction: the panhandle of Florida is actually that bit that runs from Tallahassee to Pensacola. Several other states, notably Texas and Oklahoma, also sport panhandles. It must be a goofy American thing.
True, also here in Europe (well, not the Panhandles…).
Maybe someday a developer would make an “overlay” of extinct radio navs, and LittleNavMap or Navigraph follow up with a set of heritage charts?
I know, it’s an impossible task for “realism”, but at least just to a certain degree - a “ca 1980” pseudo-realism… Better than simulated radio-silence…?
If this is the plane that is like $15 bucks then it is really worth it. Gotta get it.
So fast! Good piloting!
39:15 "Can I get direct to the numbers?"
"No...no...you're number 2."
Tower's not letting this guy cutoff a 737 😂
"Saratosa" 😆
28:44 Wow that engine exhaust looks so realistic you'd be forgiven for thinking it was real.
You are joking i hope. I thought it looked bad.
That was awful wasn't it 🤔
Lol I loved the joke, nice one
You mean, this is just a flight simulator? I had no idea 🤷♀️
@@afridgetoofar1818 don't worry it's okay I thought it was at first too!
I laughed every time you said SaraTOSA. The name of the VOR is SaraSOTA 😂. Easy mistake😅
This is the only jet airliner I want in the game.
I really enjoyed your video. I wish you would have used a different livery for your cargo jet.
That chrome fuselage looks odd. And I pretty much want that 727 for the American livery😢
The 722 is the sexiest of jetliners IMHO.
*staring at the engine fire lights and wondering why no one replaced those*
can someone explain more about the "V Speeds" ... V1 / VR and V2? I'm totally clueless about these, thanks in advance
the 145 Professional I fly in game announces "V1 speed acquired" or something similar during take off and shortly after the front wheel gets airborne,
One minor quibble, Tampa is not part of the Florida panhandle.
Looks like someone added the smoke using Microsoft Paint....
New subscriber and enjoying it. Definitely needs a radar for aesthetics. Even if it doesn't work. Do the reverser lights work?
Macdonald’s Douglas used to smoke a lot.
Never seen a plane rolling coal
which flight recorder do you use
Stunning video! As always thank you for sharing! Give me that kerosene with a touch of paraffin all day long. 5x5 from here. C'ya!!
Could’ve at least acknowledged in the video why the smoke textures look so messed up 😂
why is it dragging a black blanket?
Where did you get the 727 mod?
Rolling coal on that takeoff…
Until they manage to get the FMC coded in the Ejets...No sale. I'm beginning to think it's beyond them and they've given up.
What's gonna happen when 2024 is out ? You're running out of superlatives IBS ! 😂😂😂
So why is this an AAL 72 with a US N number, but a British G number on the panel?
the smoke .....
Where Did You Get This
Sarasota, my brother. Sarasota.
I flew this in FSX/P3D, CS actually, but prefer the PAX model. Will they be making that? The freighter doesn't work with GSX and jetways (PAX loading), right?
Hi Mr S,
I believe a pax version is in the works also, yes. The freighter does work with GSX / air bridges / pax boarding (via L1 only) but, better to wait for the appropriate version, if that’s what you’re after : )
Cheers and all the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thanks, Boss! Glad this flies well.
MSFS2020 might be great for Cockpit Graphics and 3D imagery, but I'd keep "INSANE REALISM" reserved for FSX videos. The exterior shots of this are very... cartoony.
There's something peculiar about how you synch the generators...
All that black smoke is going to piss some activist off.
auto brakes in a 727 ? Not what I remember ....
Is this coming to Xbox ?
A great simulator was Falcon 4
A 727 of back when AA was good.
Sarasota, not Saratosa 🙈
Bro please make the tutorial of Beechcraft B-60 duke, i really need this 😮💨😮💨
Cockpit looks nice, but that external model looks bad...
That is NOT the Florida Panhandle. The panhandle is along the north Florida gulf coast. What you are siming over is the peninsula. Or the dick that pisses on Cuba. I so much miss that plane.
smokey joe 727 ops
35:05 - 🔖
Sarasota…not Saratosa
It didnt smoke THAT much
The soot coming off the engines during take-off was not good. That's a lot of poor, incomplete combustion.
Is it good to buy now ?
No, it’s full of bugs. Impossible to start the APU, CSD oil press Lo, Gen lts off when engines are off, fuel & hydraulic pumps have no effect on the APU load etc…
@@myZisfantastic thanks for the update
@@jxk4500 Not all of those problems are affecting everyone. Although it is true that some of the actions and reactions at the FE panel are works in progress (and progress is being made, with updates coming regularly), little or none of that affects the flying aspect of the sim and would probably not be evident except to one who had served as an FE on the real airplane (and most, if not all, of those are now retired, like me!). I, for example, am having no trouble starting the APU. And the generators operate, no matter what the CSD pressures are. Actually, with the latest revisions, all of those complaints except the gen lights have been fixed, at least for me. Things affecting the APU load is definitely not going to impact your experience flying this. The start-with-all-engines-running ( as when spawning on the end of a runway) now seems to set everything up correctly for flight, and since I started these things several thousand times in real life, I can now content myself with just taking off and flying!
In my opinion, considering the effort that is being made with updates and improvements, I would have no hesitation in buying this now. This is very good now (with some relatively minor exceptions) and will surely get better over time.
I don't have the problem with the friend above, it's worth buying if you like retro planes.
@@anthonyvallillo422I'll give you the "MOST" 727 FEs are retired, but definitely can't give you the "ALL" as I still fly the 727 along with 2 other FEs.
How excited are you for MSFS2024
Not much. From the videos now coming out, it is definitely a game, and in some respects rather sophomoric one at that, that is played on a very realistic stage - sort of an aeronautical version of Grand Theft Auto 5! It appears that there will be waaaaay to much Walter Mitty play acting, like being forced to take instruction and "checkrides" to even access much of the content. Career modes, and that sort of thing, mean little to a real pilot who wants to use something like this as an adjunct to real world flying, as I did when I was flying the big ones, and as I do now for my Cessna flying. That's just me, of course, and more power to anyone who looks forward to this as a game or game-like experience! After all, you say tomato.... But for myself, it will be some time before I look at this seriously. All the better to have them work the bugs out of it I guess.................! But I hope they sell millions of it, because maybe then they will keep the franchise going as it looks like they want to do.
@@anthonyvallillo422 it's more of a sim than 2020 for what has already been showcased, in sim charts, proper flight planning, all stock planes with a working efb, fully remade flight model and water physics, proper gear behavior based on what type of terrain the plane is above of, etc, we simply got accustomed that updates on flight simulators were some graphics, with flight model changes, and market it as a new simulator.
Career mode has been in most msfs sims, 2020 being the recent outlier, but like all of them, you can simply hop on a plane and do the procedures you want and ignore that mode completely, or do it if you feel like it.
And that is why I will eventually get it. But as I said, from a few of the previews it appears that just hopping in and flying may not be quite as straightforward as it has been in the past. Hopefully they will get feedback on this and correct it before too long.
