For anyone looking into this now (2 years after this video was posted), I just purchased a smallrig cage for my A7IV and the little bit that you mount to the eyelet on the left side of the camera body is now reversible instead of having two different pieces to switch out. And it does feel really great in the hand with the full cage. I hope this is helpful to someone. I love your videos, Chris.
The only thing I don't like about the all-metal handle with rec button is it gets super cold in cold weather. I bought camo form tape from amazon that i'll use to wrap the handle during cold weather. Hopefully that will be more comfortable to hold as well as increased grip.
Loved this, think I'll keep mine more as a photo camera without a full rig but that L-bracket looks interesting, might get that and see if there's a way I can get some sort of strap on the side
Terrific video Chris - thank you! So many people review SmallRig equipment, but never provide the part numbers or provide context into the diffeerent parts of the setup.
Awesome! just got that L bracket for A7rV, it looks exactly the same fit as you've shown on a7iv. Thanks for the detailed review. You're awesome 👍🤘

Hi Chris great job ! Thanks. I have almost the same gears. And i use the Monitor+ app with an old smartphone as monitor as you has shown previously. My top handle is Smallrig 2950. Very nice to use the camera in wallet mode close to the ground.
I’ve got their L-bracket version for the A6400 which has the wooden grip extension. If you extend the L piece then you can use it to also have a left hand grip (kind of).
Well done, as always. Your descriptions are always clear, concise and helpful. Plenty of good information here. I'll definitely revisit this one when I get time to build the cage for my A7iv. Keep up the great work, Chris.
I also bought the smallrig cage, but was kind of disappointed. The upper buttons are really hard to reach, especially using the stills/video dial is pretty tricky. Also: why not screws on the left *and* right side? Even with the tightened two screws, the cage is still rickety. Last but not least: funny, that you call the battery door a design feature. Well ... Yeah, thank you smallrig, that we can change batteries without detaching the whole rig :) Thank you for the video and keep up the good work. Cheers!
hmmmm it shouldn't be rickety at all, mine is rock solid once its all in, something sounds a miss. The battery hinge is definitely odd but better than the alternative haha
Interesting video - Dummy batteries - Have you found a 3rd party battery door with a cable cut out? The original door does not have that feature. An think it is a bit of a bummer just to remove the door
Last few Sony cameras including the A7SIII and FX3 dont have this either and no 3rd party is making such a thing right now, only option is to buy a spare and... dremmel.
Hi Chris! I'm thinking about buying this SmallRig rotating handle, but as i understand, this will work good only with external monitor, because with this handle it will be not comfortable to use A7Siii flip screen? Am I right? Thank you :-)
Hi Chris, could you please share a link for the monitor? I can only find 5.5inch version on amazon and I don't think they are the same. Also is monitor support 4K 100FPS on Sony A7s3 ?? Thank you
Hi Chris are you having any issues using your monitor with the camera? I notice when using an external display the camera screen goes blank like the a7iii did.
looking at getting a 7in monitor for the rig, would you consider it too large? i’ve been looking at the feelworld lut7sdi for the 2200nits or the portkeys 7? Any reason you went with the portkeys vs a small HD monitor?
My Sony a7IV doesn't work with the smallrig handle, when i press the record button nothing happens. Is there any option in the menu that i have to change to make it work ?
Same question as mine - I don’t think so. I actually ordered the LBracket for the A1 by mistake, but fortunately it works just fine (except for the monitor as described here).
Hello, Chris! One question: Does the cage you used with the a7siii on the other video about camera cages (smallrig 2999) also works with the a7iv? Or will i have to buy this new one you mentioned in this video too?
very incomplete for filming. I ubderstand this is a smallrig video but you need something like a tilta mirage to be able to shoot outdoors. you'll need a nd system
@@chrisbrockhurst sony warranty is void when using dummy battery. Unless using sony npa which outputs the 7.2v. Regular v mounts dtap is 8v. Burns the camera board.
You’ve got a lot of information, but it’s a huge pain in the neck - you’re demonstrating something and you’re wiggling it all over the place. Slow down. thank you. thumbs up though for providing some excellent clues.

Yes please. All of it! Been wanting to build out my A7IV
Great video Chris. Thanks for highlighting the Smallrig L bracket for my A7 iv.
Love my new Tilta one for the A7IV

What an awesome rig! Love that you pointed out the innovations that SmallRig has been making. Super capable camera set up
Every model they seem to level up their designs.

excellent review. straightforward no blustering hype
Thanks for watching
Everything sounds great! Honestly the only thing different for me is to replace the monitor with a Sony ECM-B1M!
Brilliant. Exactly what I needed. Thanks Chris!
You're welcome!

Just ordered the top handle! Thank you!
Many, many great tips in this video. Chris, thank you!
Nice.... Still on the A7iii, but it gives me ideas
Hi! informative video! :) Are you able to half-press the record button on the top handle to fix focus before/during recording?
So both sides of this cage have built in NATO rails?!?! Wow, very nice!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Kondor Blue Sony rig and all of their cage accessories
Simply gorgeous simple rig.
Can you make a comparison with the new Tilta cage for the A7IV as well?
maybe!
Fantastic video, very helpful. Can you confirm that by using the L bracket the monitor tilt cannot be used anymore when it’s opened?
its not fully functional, sort of works
Dam it! Should I emotional while watching a camera rig build? Porbably not but that camera looks so good and I want one so so bad. Dope rig!!
Little tear of joy is a good thing now and then 😉
I hope smallrig comes out with a half cage for this camera. It looks a bit too big for my needs.
Nice catch @ 13:04 lol
what is that watch you wearing, looks coooooooool
13:03 I nearly died looool
What’s the strap handle attached the cage called, also how did you attach it?
I love using a left handle for my a7lll but they don’t look like would great with the swivel screen.
They don’t have the l bracket no more 🤦🏾♀️

Am I the only one concerned for that g-master just sitting without any back cap?
SmallRig!
yay!

How are the YT 'Shorts' stories doing? Are you seeing it drive traffic or subs?
Any update on a link for a hand strap like that?
Can the full cage be mounted vertically on a tripod as well?
Thanks for review!
No problem!
Where do you find that awesome metal lens mount cover? Can't seem to find in your gear list. Thanks!
I guess that the "A7IV L bracket (3660)" is also good for DJI RS3? and is the mic port reachable too? Thanks
Are the small rig brackets compatible with the Dji RS3 gimbal? You mentioned they are with the RS2. Just checking before I spend the money
What is the advantage of the ninji v
What's the record feed from the A7IV???????
Is there an accessory for the Sony digital hot shoe mic to attach to top handle?
For the L bracket, are you able to fully use the flippy screen, or does the bracket get in the way of using the screen?
Sony a7r5 and a74 externally exactly the same ?
What model Porteys monitor do you show
What’s the model number for the NATO rail?
Come you open the screen with the rig to prevent over heating?
Hey Chris, what monitor is that?
do you have the link for the hdmi cable ? Tanks !
Do you need a boost your audio because ads are blaring loud compared to your video. Otherwise great mixing.
Have you found the A7 IV overheating at all?
where is that lens cap protector from link it
Hello men what’s the gmaster lens you have in this video please ?

Does this cage fit the A7iii aswell?
Great video as always! Super detail which is helpful.
Q: Does the cage work with peak design capture clip?
Which portkeys monitor is that and do you prefer it over the ninja v or Andycine you've reviewed in the past ?
You shoot Compress raw or uncompressed RAW with A7IV?
Does the screen open with that rotating side handle?
So on that P6 Portkeys if I need to shoot 4k60fps will the monitor stop working or will it downscale to 1080p so I can continue monitoring ?

Does the smallrig for a7iii fits the a7iv?

Can you drop the link from your monitor? Thanks
Portkeys P5!

Hey Chris, do you use gimbals very much or do you mostly sit handheld??
Time and a place. For real estate and weddings I use them ALOT
Hey man. can the a7iv also record proxies?
Yep

Can I use sony a7iv smallrig to my sony a7iii camera ? or sony a7iii size is different than sony a7iv?
They are different sizes
Hi chris ! Just wondering , if you use the L / side parts of 3660, can you open di lcd monitor ? Like place it on the side ?
Same question as mine - I don’t think so. I actually ordered the LBracket for the A1 by mistake, but fortunately it works just fine (except for the monitor as described here).
what sd do you use?

Great question. The sizes are very slightly different so the A7IV is a little too big unfortunately
