North Wilkesboro Speedway Gets New Pavement | Extended Interview about the process

This video features an extended interview with Steve Swift, SVP of Operations and Development, as he shares insights about the exciting developments at North Wilkesboro Speedway. The 40-year-old pavement is gone, and a new racing surface is taking its place. This much-needed upgrade follows the major facelift last year in preparation for hosting the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race.
The old racing surface had seen better days, requiring repairs after each day of racing action. The paving contractor for this significant project is Summers-Taylor from Johnson City, Tennessee. However, there's a touch of history as well, with the Wilkes County company that originally paved the track and did the 1981 job, Carl Rose and Sons, playing a crucial role this time around.
Steve Swift, SVP of Operations and Development, shared his insights: "We wanted to utilize them. We wanted to make sure we involved them, and Dale Rose, who actually operated the paver in '81 when it was last done, has talked to Summers-Taylor's crew. They're providing all the mix. So all the asphalt is coming from their plant, and their trucks are helping haul the product to the site. The only thing different is the contractor actually placing it is Summers-Taylor."
In an eco-friendly move, Speedway Motorsports plans to repurpose the old pavement from the track's surface to pave parking lots at North Wilkesboro. Additionally, some of the old pavement will be auctioned off to benefit Speedway Children's Charities.

Never thought id see another race at this track and then the All Star race and then we get a second All Star race, now my Grandkids will see racing at this historic track, glad to be from Wilkes and still live here. Great things to come!!!!!!! Thank you so much Dale Jr and nascar.

I know it's different ownership, but I really hope Michigan gets repaved with this newer tech soon because that track was awesome and then they repaved it. It's been bad ever since.

Would love to see the xfinity cars race on it! It will take 4 or years to break in.....maybe longer with this terrible next Gen car

Thank "let's go Brandon" President Biden and the Dems for the grant money that went towards rehabing North Wilksboro. Not one NC Republican Representative or Senator on Capital Hill voted for the American Rescue Plan Act, the source of the 18 million US dollar grant money that Gov. Roy Cooper earmarked for North Wilksboro. So NASCAR fans [and I'm one]...the next time y'all hear some 'fans' scream 'let's go Brandon' think about North Wilksboro...just saying.
