  • At times the aerial attacks of the Russian forces have been described as inaccurate and analysts -mainly those critical of Russia in general- have questioned the effectiveness of an aerial campaign in which the bulk of the air force used are planes at least 30 years dated and lack many of the modern features that their western counterparts have.
Also a great part of the bombs and munitions used in the Russian Aerospace Forces are from the late Cold War era and are mostly unguided -also known as “dumb bombs”- that do not have a guidance system of any sort and by themselves are very inaccurate.
considering this situation and the financial hindrances and limitations Russia faces, the Russian Aerospace Forces detachment in Syria, with the relatively low cost of almost $3 million a day (U.S’s campaign in Syria reportedly costs $12 million a day) has been able to significantly facilitate the advance of the Syrian army and its allies against its opponents whether they are of the Syrian Rebels or the Islamic State terrorists.
One of the main reasons for that would be the use of the S V P-24 guidance system. This weapons system is installed on the planes and allows them to drop the unguided bombs with a reported precision of 2 to 5 meters which is very good considering the fact that the bombs themselves do not have guidance systems.
It is important to note that this system has been installed on Su-25, Su-24M, Su-22M3 and even on the Kamov Ka-50 and Ka-52 attack helicopters while there have been unconfirmed reports that some have been installed on the L-39 trainers which are now being used as bombers.
The interesting part about these systems is the fact that the pilots are required to just fly over the target and the S V P-24 will first measure the environmental parameters, compares the position of the aircraft using the GLONASS system and then automatically releases the dumb bomb at the precise moment that they need to be released in order to hit its target.
Also this system reportedly works in all weather conditions and times of the day while also it is possible to use well over the 5000 meters altitude which is out of the range of Man-portable air-defense systems (MAN PADS).
It is worth noting the United States also came up with a solution to try to turn its dumb bombs into smart ones and it was the J D A M kit (Joint Direct Attack Munition) which would be installed on every unguided bomb and would turn it into a precision weapon.
this kit costs 25,000 dollars per unit which overall makes the SVP-24 more cost effective since it is installed on the aircraft and can be reused any number of times is it required without having to install additional pieces on the bombs.
This system also gets additional info from datalinks from AWACS aircraft, ground stations and other aircrafts which can greatly contribute to the precision of the strike and reduce possible errors that could jeopardize the bombing.
The Russians claim this system has a very low error rate while media -mainly the western ones- question its accuracy and point to the fact that the system, as opposed to similar ones used by the U.S, can only track one target at a time in order to question its usefulness.
this system, with all its problems, has proved to be useful in Syria and the latest advances of the Syria forces are testament to this while data shows that the Syrian government, with the help of the Russian Aerospace Forces, has been able to recover vast areas in this Arab country

The major difference between Russian and US military is that Pentagon is a separate department that earns on military spending from the government and the government earns on lies spread by Pentagon about necessity of military actions. Russian military and the government are on defensive end and act as a whole.

The accuracy of strikes was impressive even at night and in bad weather proving effective against the Islamic State and other extremist groups infrastructure to include combat positions, command points, explosives and improvised explosive devices production facilities, large warehouses, convoys with weapons and ammunition, training camps, bridges and other targets. It is also important to note that the Russian aircraft flew at over 5000m above ground to make them unreachable for portable air defense systems (MANPADS).
    What made them operate efficiently?
The Russian aircraft use the SVP-24 «special computing subsystem» to make their strikes precision-guided. The system is brand new. According to Alexander Panin, the director general of GEFEST company producing the guidance kit, it was still going through tests in July 2015 to be installed on TU-22M, SU-24M and SU-25 combat aircraft.
The subsystem uses GLONASS satellite navigation system (the Russian equivalent of US GPS) to constantly compare the position of the aircraft and the target. It measures the environmental parameters (pressure, humidity, wind flow velocity, aircraft speed, angle of attack, etc.) and receives information from datalinks (other planes, early warning aircraft, ground stations etc.) to compute an «envelope» (speed, altitude, course) inside which a gravity bomb is automatically released at the precise moment. As a result, the «iron bombs» strike with the same precision as brand new guided munitions. Even if GLONASS were jammed, the countless sensors would allow the computer to give a targeting solution.
The only thing to be done prior to pressing the button is entering the target’s exact coordinates into the SVP-24. Fire-and-forget guidance allows the pilot to concentrate on detecting threats and targets. The weather conditions or time of the day play no role.
The SVP-24 is mounted on a plane (not a bomb) to be reused over and over again. In theory, the SVP-24 can be installed on practically any rotary or fixed wing aircraft. Unguided, or «dumb» bombs have been accumulated in great quantities in the Cold War days. The supply is infinite to make their use in combination with the SVP-24 a cheap solution.
The cost is extremely important. The need of their massive use during the air operation, highlighted by the recent Western campaigns in Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq, drives the military spending up by far. The development of the SVP-24 enabled Russia to slash the costs of its military operation sharply. The development of sophisticated targeting systems has enabled the Russian Aerospace Forces to take out targets with the highest precision, using a huge stockpile of munitions, with negligible cost compared to that of guided air bombs. That’s what enabled Russian President Vladimir Putin to emphasize that the operation in Syria «will not place a considerable burden on the budget».

Because the US real enemy are the Syrians, Iranians, Hizbullah and Russia. The US created, armed and supported ISIS and Al-Qaeda (Nusra Front and other names) to use them as proxies to do their dirty war against the Syrian people and allow gas pipes to run through Syria to Europe. Thank God, so far, they have failed and Syria remains on the map. No one invited the US into Syria like no one invited the US to destroy Yemen and countless of other nations. Stop the lies and these permanent wars.

I remember when the US took out over 400 tanker trucks that ISIS was using to move oil and there wasn't much more than a peep from the media. Only idiots on RUclips think the US is doing nothing. Weird, as per Pentagon 103 missiles for only three sites? How come 70% of the new, pretty, intelligent and invisible missiles got shot down? How come Damascus next day was like any other day?
Evidently Russian personnel nor its new missiles were needed to shoot down missiles, Syrians by themselves took care of business using old soviet weaponry and the proof is that Damascus woke up next day like nothing happened, then Russian personnel show big pieces of missiles that were shot down contrary to the Pentagon that said none were shot down. As an added bonus Russia got missiles un-exploded.

I woud like to voice my concerns about this system, which are the falowings: a) it doesn't helps to improve the accuracy of the bombs, just takes the human input out so they hit the targets more often (by accuracy i mean that if the pilot realse the bomb at the good time it is going to hit the target precisely or is it going to miss it) so if it drops the bombs at 5000m wind is still going to blow it off target. b)since it isn't using a system which guieds the bomb to the targert it has to see the target and be abel to dasignate it for itself wich seams to be impossible in all weather (it is preaty hard to see something troug a cloud).
Note: The 2-5m accuracy of the bombs are preaty unbalivabele given that the JDAM (wich is a GPS guided, and and has an inbuilt guidance system so wind doesn't affect it ) has an accuracy of 7-13m , and the russians and syrians have a tendency to claim and state false information.
P.S:sorry for the grammar and spelling mistakes...

    • @29Aios
      @29Aios 2 года назад

As I understand, the СВП-24 system just calculates the time of dropping bombs on some conditions ie. weather (current wind, humidity, possible clouds on bomb path and their humidity based on height over earth and size), aircraft speed, pitch etc. It does calculate ~20 parameters, you can even drop a bomb on a turn of an aircraft, so a bomb will get more velocity and altitude and therefor hit longer distance target.
In any case, the main idea is to dispose of old uncontrolled bombs that are stacked in warehouses by the millions, but more accurately, however Russia has many other types of controlled bombs

Actually they are not cost effective bombings. You need more bombs to kill single target with dumb bombs, but you could do it just with one jdam. So if you need 5 bombs to kill one target, so 5x bomb costs and 5x logistical expenditure. Planes also has to carry more bombs, meaning weight increases and fuel consumption too. Russia also has lost several planes to manpads in syria, increasing bombing campaing cost. And there is chance still that these bombs miss as we seen many times and targets can escape, meaning whole strike was a failure.

    It’s cost affective against ISIS,
    because they only bombed the
opposition,Syrian people, they had to use footage from video games, the only time they bombed ISIS,was to get back at Turkey, they attacked oil trucks that were going to Turkey, and they played them videos nonstop, and still are,
it’s the only proof of any attack on ISIS by the Russian armed forces, the coalition forces even had to go into Syria, to destroy the ISIS capital, otherwise they would still be there.not to mention the s300,s400,s500,ect ect ect
that destroyed all of them Israeli jets that have been flying and attacking at will all over Syria,I don’t know if Israel has any jets left, aahhhhaaaaa,

You are absolutely correct. US coalition destroyed ISIS capital with all it's civilians. And Russian forces freed from ISIS all the rest Syrian territory.

Alex one day you will finally convince yourself, that all of the Syrian civilians that Russia killed were ISIS,but until that time comes,me you and everybody else knows that Russia nor America nor anybody else bombs people to save them.

systems like svp-24 have fundamental CEP of about 30 m when released from ~ 4000 m due to unpredictable winds..... a dumb bomb is worth about 5000 thousand $, a JDAM about 30 000 total and hitting a target 1 JDAM can requires about 5 dumb bombs... the total price is comparable
What makes the Russian campaign more effective is the use of more primitive aircraft and most importnatly LOWER WAGES of their soldiers!

Judging by the shape of the fairing is the bomb М54, which was produced until 1962. They can't cost $ 5,000. On the contrary their disposal would cost $ 5,000 each. 5-6 bombs were used in each of the air strikes from this video is not for compensating errors, but to guarantee the destruction of a group of buildings or buildings of large size. I.e. in the case of using JDAM them would also require more than one. But I grieve you still more: for operation in Syria, Russia has never allocated any budget at all because these flights were read out as a planned drills.

I was talking about the price of US bombs, the price of bombs produced in USSR is near 0. It is to compensate for errors, as 30 m isn't good enough.
