i irony of ricky complaining about long intros when i took nearly 3.30 minutes to see him actually start reacting to the video lol no hate i love ur videos just found it funny :)
Tbf it's not a 70 second video lol
Great point, lol, I laughed bc you're totally right, guilty. Tho tbf my videos are typically longer, but you're not wrong.
@@RicketySkiReviews yeah as I said , no hate I really enjoy your videos :)
4:40 was a really weird take on Elliot’s behalf. Ski monster makes a reasonable statement then Elliot tries to slam him, yet while agreeing with the majority of the points he made. Then Elliot rambles on and begins to contradict himself.
This was an odd video
Not well articulated on my part tbf , but height affects leverage was my main point. Saying your ski doesn't know your height is silly since height affects leverage and ability to flex boot and change ski into an arc.
I ski 188CM so I look badass in the lift line. 😂
Legend
Finally, someone with their priorities dialed in.
Just saw you have few subscribers so I suscribed... yt needs more relatable nononse underdogs like you, like the rest of us. You don't need to be right about everything but at least I can trust you on genuinely calling out the BS. I came late into skiing in my life and lost too many years and money on poor advice and misinformation.
Cheers from Bariloche, Argentina!
Thanks for subbing and watching in general!
Im 6 foot 1, and I have 182s because I got a really good deal on them.
Haha, my mannnn
I’m 6’1” and pretty much just ski 180-185s. I have the Corvus Freebirds for backcountry/powder and the Justis for inbounds, both 183. Haven’t felt a need for shorter/longer skis. Trees, Moguls, and steeps all feel great. I work at a demo shop and have access to everything but pretty much stick to the skis I have that I trust and have practice on.
That's so awesome when you find that sweet spot.
Not sure the logistics but would love to see you do some armada videos! Preferably the arv 100’s or the arv 106 vs arw 106 UL.
If not this year maybe something on the list for next year?? Would love to get your perspective on the more playful twin tips seeing how well they hold up on all mountain applications as they advertise.
Cheers and keep up the great content !
would love to see this
Thanks, really trying, Armada won't answer my calls or emails lol
@Elliott, I wonder if you can make a video on the DPS PHANTOM... is that legit at all.... Any experience or thoughts on that?
No experience on dps but trying to get ahold of them.
@@RicketySkiReviews Oh sorry, i wasn't very clear in my comment. I meant the "waxless-wax". The new invention of theirs -- some kind of polymer that you apply on your skis once and you don't need to wax ever again. I get their ads in my feed all the time, and as much as I want to trust that, i have my reservations... thought you could drag them through your scrutiny. :)
Love your commentary one thing I am wondering about is triple side cut/radius volkl has something like it was just watching a recent ski talk video on Fischer and they called it a technology is it a technology or just describing how side cuts work
Hmm a weird use of the word technology, but maybe I need a bit more context.
I think that is the issue I am having I watch reviews and they say something like this features a triple radius sidecut and I am not sure what that means. Is there something different in how they are shaping ski? It might be just a better way to describe a ski's radius than a single radius, see this video starting at about 3:10ruclips.net/video/AzoaAPmb6nM/видео.html @@RicketySkiReviews
I'm 6'4" (192cm) 230 lb and like to charge . I eat ski's . Poles last me years but skis don't. I buy stiff skis on purpose as I like to really push energy through them . My sweet spot is around the 184 cm mark for 90cm skis . Used to race on Kneissl M1 221cm also loved ski ballet and back country . AT 59 still charging hard and pushing the skis limitations . Loving your honesty , liking your haircut when wearing a helmet :) . Too many variables come into play regarding ski length for the more experienced skier , for beginners a basic guide is fine ( chin height for easier control and groomers ) . I see some baloney in all reviews but since I don't eat pork it just amuses me and appreciate the aesthetic value . Loving your posts btw .
Thanks so much, enjoyed reading through this.
I'm trying to think of something funny to say about the love ski ballet admission :)
I learned to ski this black friday, took my about three hours to click in till the time i was able to get down greens without shaving. Was riding a RMU valhalla 97 172, im 140 5'11. Still have no idea what ski I should get if I wanna do freestyle skiing
That's awesome, when you say freestyle are you talking like park or? I would focus on fundamentals at this point and then work from there.
@@RicketySkiReviews yeah park. Im a pretty big snowboarder already and kinda want to stick to that field in skiing. I also get pro deals on almost every brand in the world, if that helps
short skis make twisting so easy, and make you so much better at balancing.
I agree, I love shorter skis In the woods
@@RicketySkiReviews I use to use 192cm in the woods I now use 187cm , I am 173cm tall in eastern woods

This is the impossible question you have to ski on them
True
Without a doubt, Ski Monster oversimplifies and dumbs things down, but you read into their videos meaning that is not there. You have to keep what they say in the proper context. You add a lot more content that is usually accurate (and always honest) but I advise you to be more vocal about about "oversimplifying and less about calling something you don't relate to "baloney".
Well said and great point! I rewatched and there are alot of points I wish I would have articulated the right answer, rather than just saying they're wrong.
Appreciate the thoughtful comment.
i think you and ski monster agree. you just misinterpreted some things. "Leverage" is just an aspect of how much force. How much force you can put into the ski is all about it.
His video is much too short though and needs to be more nuanced.
Ski design is much more varied and complex with each year. effective edge length does matter, flex matters, flex patterns matter, rocker/camber patterns matter!
For instance, Im 5'10 145lbs skinny engineer. I ski mid 180 skis that are all over 2000g because I like long skis with a stiff middles and flexy tips/tails and I like to straightline. Even in the trees they perform well (not as well as a shorter ski would of course, but it all varies)
Now for slalom skis? 155cm or 160cm is my size since theyre so stiff and stable. (i never raced)
Skis like a maverick or a mantra id ski in the mid 170's since the mount points are further back and theres little tail rocker! I can handle a 2450g 186 rossignol blackops 118 but i cant ski something like a dynastar mpro 108 192 because despite my technique it's just too much ski for me to comfortably flex all day.
Again, my style of skiing is not the average though. I ski to go fast and hit jumps, not to cruise.
well said!
Great comment, I think effective edge matters, I didn't articulate this very well, I just meant in his example of powder skis it's not as relevant as carving skis.
I was about to comment about your own intro length and when you start talking about the actual subject (ski length) but then you realised and commented about it yourself 😂 anyway great video, keep it up 👍😁
Haha, guilty, but at least I'm starting to become self aware. 😅
Please get a ring light this looks like your manifesto if I didn’t have the sound on
omg, I'm DYING, lmao
Wait maybe you're kidding around but did you just throw shade on BMA? Lol
Lol, not intentionally, but they may have caught a stray there
GNR song... Welcome to the jungle.. gym;)
I went skiing on 12-27-2023 and I wanted to go today 12-29-2023.. There were so many people that it wasn't fun.. They did open more of the mountain.. O well..
I have been practicing my slide turns and I am getting pretty good at doing them with my Enforcer 104 x 179.. My longest skis are DPS F100 RP x 184.. I don't know how well they would do the slide turn.. They have a very short turning radius and they are catchy..
I was thinking about using my Stockli Stormrider 105s x 177 today if I went.. I don't know if I can slide turn on them.. Same with my Stockli Stormrider 88s x 177.. Especially if the snow is soft or cruddy.. They like to get stuck and catch an edge..
I am more of a carver so this slide turning is new to me.. My 25 year old race skis that are 170 long I can carve and slide turn.. I guess my point is that length also depends on how you want to ski.. Bumps are normally smaller length and are you going to be carving or sliding?..
"How long of a ski should I use?"
"Well....the ski doesn't know your height. But we have a chart. Using a field of half-C sprats, and brass-fitted nickel slits, our bracketed caps, and splay-flexed brace columns vent dampers to dampening hatch depths of one half meter from the damper crown to the spurve plinths. How? Well, we bolster twelve husk nuts to each girldle-jerry, while flex tandems press a task apparatus of ten vertically composited patch-hamplers. But it's not an exact science, so you'll need to try it out. It varies."
I ran long stix when I was young, in the 90's when everything was nearly straight. And very narrow.
When I went "parabolic" I decided 177cm was going to do it for me and I'm 6'-2". They feel stable, they carve tight, and I got used to them. Don't really want longer ones.
Enjoy the channel, keep up the good work. Intros and long descriptions of what a channel is and the like/subscribe at the start are annoying. Most of that is better placed at the end. My guess would be it's an attempt to get view time precentage up.
Totally, I don't mind it in normal videos but this one was 60 seconds so it seemed funny to me.
I like one of the guys on this channel, the guy who talked about boots
Yeah I agree that boot video was great!
I’m 6’, 200 lbs, been skiing for decades. I always got the longest length in a model. I demo’d Stöckli Laser CX and SX in four lengths, up from 156cm over two weekends. 156cm was the length I preferred in both models. I mostly ski on piste, fast carving. However, when I skied a fat powder ski, WDF Preacher, in 179 and 189cm, in deep snow, I liked the longer ski. I mostly ski 155cm slalomcarvers and 160 cross skis, now.
Feel the exact same, atomic mav 88tis are 176 and my qst 106s are 182
Elliot, no offense, but you need to take some physics lessons. You criticized the ski monster guy, who said exactly what you are saying. You don't understand physics, otherwise you would know that everything you said boils down for a ski, to force applied to the ski. Its simply weight and force, or even more simply force. The guy was correct, your interpretation of his vocabulary is what's off. What you said was a less technical version of what he said.
Yeah… “Leverage” is covered within the statement “how much force you’re putting into the ski”.
The average consumer doesn’t need a breakdown of all those forces and I think they did a pretty dang clear and concise job explaining sizing within a short consumable video.
Torque is force by distance so the more distance your weight is away from the ski, the more torque there will be on that ski. In that sense it does matter how tall you are. But ultimately how tall you are is only one part of the equation and your overall weight is likely contributing to that force more than anything else. I think it's a misnomer to state that height doesn't matter, but it's fair to ignore it to some extent, too. Perhaps this is what Elliot meant.
Height matters but boiling it down to force on the ski and simplifying to focus on weight as the driving metric of that force is a reasonable approach. Especially considering this isn't solved by an equation.. skier ability, preference, mountain location are wildcards that matter a whole lot and take trial and error and years of skiing to dial in for oneself. Ski Monster could have focused on that a bit more, but it's a harder discussion. Honestly, Elliot could have focused on that a bit more too, but it's okay I'm here for the rants always and I know how to size my own skis
Yeah I can admit I didn't articulate it well enough, but he was not saying the same thing, and physics is the one class I aced lol. He said skis don't know your height, but as you know height absolutely affects the amount of pressure you can put from your boots tongue and from there, changing the shape of your ski, because it's essentially a longer lever.
Weight, edge angle, timing and body dynamics all play a role, but pretending like height doesn't matter seems wrong imo.
Also Weight does play a role and I should have explained better, but it's not the only important element was my larger point.
Out of the limits nailed it here
our mans hair is slowly getting more unhinged
Lol my hairstylist literally left the country for a year
@@RicketySkiReviews I love that you take the time to interact with your subscribers too man, I only started skiing this year but your content has helped me a bunch in my journey already. keep the hair crazy.
At 6' 1/2" and 150lbs I bet I don't flex my ski as much as you do simply because of my mass, I'll also bet I get more rebound out of the ski as well.
Sure, mass is definitely an element to flexing a ski, I just mean to say it's not the ONLY element. Strength, height, edge angles body dynamics. There's a ton of other pieces at play.
As Lebowski says " Yeah well that's just like, your opinion man".
Haha!
Elliot, I'm not gonna repear what other people have said, but you slamed the guy that said the saaaaaame thing as you. Watch out with that 😂
Secondly I hope your family watches your video and bring their skis next year 😊 hahaha
I mean I thought I pointed that out but I get it.
My dude, you criticize the ski monster intro been 10 seconds and a 1/10 of his video. But it took you almost 3 and a half minutes to get to what he's talking about. Some quick math makes your rant almost 1/4 of your video.
my point, (which I didn't do a good job articulating) was just that the full intro seemed unnecessary for such a short video, but I am fully self aware that my intros are long.
Why do you put so much energy into hating on Ski Monster? It's literally a short explanation for beginners.
Your take at about 8:00 is total BS. Of course the effective edge matters! And rocker/camber, as well as flex patterns, matter too.
What exactly do you mean by leverage? Are you talking about lateral movement (edge to edge), flexing the ski, or having support front to back? Are you talking about stability or maneuverability? Be more specific if you are already accusing the other guy of making generalized statements.
You say that ski length depends on a lot of factors, and I agree, but how can you say "I hate the stupid weight thing" when weight (or mass) is literally half of the equation for force. Of course it makes a difference how heavy you are!
Overall, not a good video! You try to bust myths, and while doing so, you contradict yourself and create even more confusion.
Please don't just say stuff that makes sense in your head and portray it as fact. Educate yourself before you voice your opinion publicly! Also, why do you pretend to know everything as if you were a pro? I dont wanna hate... but be better!
I mean, I say in the video that weight is a part of it, but not all of it. There are alot of factors that go into carving; body dynamics, timing, pre loading pressure in the boots before the apex. It wasn't blatantly wrong but it lacked nuance, and with sizing nuance is incredibly important since skis vary so much.
Mate, you are saying their intro is too long, your first 3 minutes us just ranting before getting into the video, and then its a 1.5min hate bit. YOU JUST SHOW ME THE VIDEO :)
The difference being my video wasn't 1 min long tbf
You said the same thing he said
Yeah I don't think I articulated my points as well as I wanted to here.
you talked about his intro and yet 75% of your content was an intro.
Dear Elliott, I don't know how much knowledge you have about Indian music. But if you are going to use it for a joke, then you should learn first. That was very disrespectful joke when you said some guy in India may have done it. About the video, I agree more with Ski Monster. I am not big, but I am used to longer skis.
What? No, I was talking about how the intro animation looked very generic, like it was outsourced via fiver or something. It's a style that used to be super common on RUclips and is often made by a 3rd party.
My point was that the intro looked like it was outsourced. Nothing to do with music.
Intro was 3 very long minutes long, and he busted everyone's balls for being too long, too funny. Guy is long winded and kinda blow hard. Glen Plake , Scott Shmit , the Eagan brothers and friends were on 210s and killing it. You can rip on any length if you are good enough. The new shorter shaped skis do make it all way easier.
K
Is this dude drunk! He just plays with his hair, slurs his words, and tells everyone that only he knows what size ski’s you should use 😂
You mixed up your subject mid sentence. It should be "Tells everyone that only he knows what size ski THEY* should use.
Also, it should be "is this dude drunk?*" you need a question mark not an exclamation point.
lol
@@RicketySkiReviews You can be the grammar police if it makes you feel any better but my point was made 🤙
3:30 of blablabla before any content starts. Waste of time.

Ans your intro and complaint about the length of intros took over 3 minutes - 1/4 of your whole video length.
And it was a totally worthless video.
