    Sotnikova PLANNED a more difficult program, but didn't even skate it properly. Jumping with the wrong edge, under-rotating, stepping out, the list is endless. And omg, stop saying she skated a more difficult program. The difference in SP+FP base value score was only 1.44. She didn't win because of the difficulty. Sotnikova won b/c of unreasonably high GOEs and PCS. She wasn't penalized for her wrong edges and under-rotations like before, and her PCS jumped like 20 points in 6 months. While Kim wasn't given her well-deserved GOEs and PCS. One of the judges even gave her 0 on a beautiful jump. Don't try to make sense of what happened by belittling Kim's beautiful, clean performances

    I remember seeing her jumping up and down with joy after seeing her score(129.80) at the 2013 Trophee Eric Bompard. That is the max she should have received at the Olympics.

    People who are new to figure skating and don't know much about how scoring works think that Yuna had an easier program and Sotnikova was more technical - and that's why Sotnikova won. This argument is coming only by looking at the base value scores. Yes, Yuna had a lower base value score for the free skate but she had a higher base value score in short program. And in total, their SP + LP base value scores differ only by 1.44. This small score difference has posed no problems to Yuna before (as demonstrated by multiple times in the past). Why is that? Because she makes up for this with other scores like GOE and PCS. We not only watch the sport for techinical skills but also artistry, how the skater interprets the music, how much control she has over each of the program element, etc. Yuna is known as the "textbook jumper" because she is skilled at executing all the jumps exactly how they are supposed to be jumped (GOE). She is also known for her poise and how expressive she is with the choreography (PCS). In Sochi, she was severely underscored in GOE and PCS and Sotnikova was overscored. Pay attention to how Sotnikova executes her jumps. She doesn't have great flow in and out of the jump, she has a slanted axis in air, she under-rotates, had a wobbly and shaky landings possibly two-footed, stepped out of a jump, AND she takes off on the wrong edge (inner edge) on Lutz (called a flutz, or cheating lutz). In the past, she has been called on this and recieved wrong edge calls and got negative GOEs but not in Sochi. If you look at her lutz in slow motion, you can see that she prepares for the jump with the correct outer edge but actually jumps/takes off the ice with the inner edge. She was rewarded for this wrong jump with GOEs. And the step-out mistake that got -0.9GOE? According to the rule books, it should have been -2. Also, Sotnikova recieved level 4 for the step sequence while Yuna got level 3. Just watch both their performances and look at the sequence yourself. Sotnikova just flings her arms around a lot and moves her free leg but does not have good speed or acceleration during it, no deep clean edges compared to Kim, lacks effortlessness and flow. AND, with respect to PCS, Sotnikova jumped almost 20 points in 6 months. That just does not happen. To quote Kurt Browning, “I was shocked. What, suddenly, she just became a better skater overnight? I don’t know what happened.". Sotnikova, in the LP, did ATTEMPT a more difficult program but did not execute it properly to justify the grades she got. ARTISTRY COMES ONLY AFTER MASTERING SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES. Yuna kim wasn't just a "ballerina on ice". She delivered the perfect combination of athleticism and artistry and was not rewarded properly.

      dai ki Kim It's funny you mention Yuna's lower difficulty never posed a problem before because I've thought about that. All of Yuna's victories have come when others have made mistakes, including the silver and bronze medalists. 2013 worlds, 2009 worlds, 2010 olympics. She performed clean but her main rivals didn't. Sochi 2014 is the first time that all three competitors for medals performed cleanly in both phases of competition (yes, Sotnikova stumbled, but that's not on the same level as a fall or popping a jump. That's how the code works). No offense, but Kurt Browning is an effusive idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm not sure why Yuna's fans keep pointing to the opinions of commentators who competed, if at all, under 6.0 and have demonstrated no appreciable knowledge of the new scoring system (i.e. how someone earns GOEs or high components). Sotnikova DID become a better skater throughout the season. The quality of her elements, the explosiveness, the expression and rink presence, all improved as soon as she stepped foot in Sochi. Which is why I don't understand these videos people post of sotnikova's performances side by side. The quality of her sochi skates is unlike anything she's ever done before. And the PCS increase isn't that preposterous. Her SP was slowly inching higher throughout the season, and she hardly performed her FS clean enough times for us to notice the same trends. PCS increase as the season progresses and they certainly increase for the medal contenders. The judges have always used PCS this way. Finally, the reason why Yuna losing was a shock is because everyone imagined that if she went clean she would have to win because of her victories in the past, not paying attention to the fact that her competitors have NEVER gone cleanly until Sochi. It's not that Yuna was ever invincible, it's that the rest of the field was never clean.

    Calm down, guys. Adelina is only a one time winner while yuna kim is the queen and will be remembered forever in the history of figure skating. Many girls look up to her as a role model. You can see many little skaters nowaday attempt to skate in yuna kim style ♡

  • @lol-dg6ue

    Adelina was just a substitution for Yulia because Yulia fell at her short program.. Ridiculous that Adelina said "I was much better than Yuna" in interviews. She didn't even deserve the gold, she has to be shamed with her attitude. I have never seen such a skater with no manners. Sochi was so dirty. When Yuna was attempting to do her jumps, some Russians shouted at her. Rude audiences, Rude skater.

  • @daikikim4373

    Sotnikova 's double Loop was obviously under-rotated with a wobbly, shaky (and possibly two-footed) landing and Under-rotated jumps, like flutzes, should result in deductions. And if Sotnikova did flutz or under-rotate her jump, then she was given too many points.

  • @NerdScruffInaTARDIS
    @NerdScruffInaTARDIS 10 лет назад +54

    no wrong edge call on triple lutz, two footed landing (and she stepped out) pre-rotations and under rotations, and she used full blade instead of toepick. she has such potential too, she really could become a good skater. i think if she did not place gold she would not have many people hate her and would become a legacy is she corrected everything. but she will not be remembered now, because of home-cooked gold.

      "Both Adelina Sotnikova and Yuna Kim skated very clean, near flawless programs; however, Sotnikova’s was more technically difficult and sound.
      Sotnikova’s was a very well-constructed, technically SUPERIOR program with SEVEN triple jumps with FIVE in combination, while Kim’s program consisted of SIX triple jumps with THREE in combination.
      Sotnikova managed to capture a magical moment, much like Kim did during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics when she won the gold medal."

    • @NerdScruffInaTARDIS
      @NerdScruffInaTARDIS 10 лет назад +15

      MansonChe Are you really counting triples? Especially without naming the jumps? because a toeloop jump is a LOT different from an axel, 3T=4.1, 3A=8.5 in base value) so from that range, its quite vague if you only tell me triples. And in that case that YOU DO count those triples, don't forget the double jumps. Adelina has 7 triples, 4 doubles, Yuna 6 triples and 5 doubles. do the math, THEY BOTH HAVE 29 REVOLUTIONS IN THE AIR. it adds up to 28, but extra rotations because both of them have a double axel jump twice. Tell me technically superior again, and I'll reply with, "Yuna had 50+ step sequence elements whereas Adelina only has about 20. Yuna has lutz and flips, with the right edges, mind you, and Adelina? she has the wrong technique for a salcow! And it comes down to the little things, too; Kim even throws in a layback ina bauer spread eagle position as an entrance to the double axel, making for difficult edge control." that plus what i originally said? I think Yuna should have won overall, winning the short program and Mao winning the long.

      @skatefan9495 8 лет назад +1

      +MansonChe Kim UR'd her 3lutz and was missing a 7th triple, so the flaws of each evened themselves out. The scores should have been closer but Kim's skate was not as good as her best.

      @doolyking5786 8 лет назад +4

      idolfan9495 FYI her 3rd Lutz was OK, and even the Sochi judges graded her as such when they were trying to lower her scores so that any Russian would win Gold. She never had 7 Triples in her programs and she's won many Golds, as u can clearly see her past career history, including the masterpieces Vancouver and 2013 WC.

    How do: pre-rotating, under-rotating and taking off with the wrong edge for the jumps, barely having any deep and flowing edge work on step sequence, 2-footing jumps, stepping out of a jump, and falling (Yulia L.) count as..the best? Is it because Sotnikova just kind of..waved her arms around a lot, waved at the audience during her routine..? Please explain to me why they were the best. I would really like to know. And please don't give me the whole "Sotnikova has better technique" crap. Because she doesn't (for all the reasons I mentionned), and does not yet come close to the widely known "textbook" jumper, Kim.

After she left Orser, she seemed to lose the joy of skating. The numbers don't tell the whole story. She looked like she would rather be anywhere else than there in Sochi, despite her mostly clean skate. Was Adelina over-scored? On PCS, definitely. Should she have won? I don't know. It's over. People should let it go.

    Not worth more than 130 points at best. Technically very suspect and unaccomplished compared to Yuna Kim. There were at least four glaring errors for which she should have been deducted at least 7 GOE points.
    Artistically, it was all rather amateurish with preciously little elegance or maturity.
    One of the most undeserving Olympic figure skating gold medallists of all time. In fact she didn't even deserve a bronze.

      Pete Mason Please detail these glaring errors that supposedly add up to -7 GOE? Adelina had explosive jumps and spins that deserved high GOES, as well as all level 4 elements, and great skating skills, transitions, and execution. The only categories where Yuna unambiguously was better than her are the choreography/composition and interpretation components. Adelina's score may have been inflated but the final order of the medalists was right. Blame the code of points, don't blame Adelina.

    Yes, any Russian skaters who could jumps without big mistakes ought to get gold medal in Sochi. That was their plan and that mission was accomplished. Lipnitskaya was the target goal but she made big mistakes, so they had to give to Sotnikova. At least, Sotnikova didn't make big mistake like falling on the ice. Sotnikova did well on her level but never never for gold medal with that rough and immature performance. Sad thing was Russians made her believe she deserved the gold medal. She probably believed at the first time. But now she has to prove to herself and to the world but she can't. That is the reason she is not showing up any competitions. Because she never reached the gold medal level and if, if she wants it. she needs work really hard to accomplish. Russians gave her bed lesson as education wise... Sad for her.

    What? Higher than Queen Yuna FS at Worlds 2013 with biggest mistake at 2:44 and lower than Kim Yuna’s FS at Olympic 2010 just a little bit?
    ISU, IOC, Alla, Yury, Alexander….you were ruined Adelina’s career before she retired on 2020 and stole Queen Yuna 2nd Gold Medal at her last event
