- In this video we tune up the Sparkplug and CAHRtenna antennas. Two great antennas for getting out and playing Portable Ham Radio such as Parks on the Air, or Summits on the Air.

Thanks for the heads up video! Got the CAHR antenna on order now.
Mike, you did a great job building and tuning the antenna!! Thanks!
Thanks Chuck. You guys did a great job creating this antenna!
Great video Mike. Thanks again!
Thanks for another great video!
I have the MFJ 223. I haven’t had any issues with it. I recently bought the RigExpert Stick Pro so I haven’t used it in awhile. Nice video. I put my name on the list for the CAHR antenna. Looking forward to that one.
Great video.. gunna have to get me a cahr antenna for my ic705.. i always learn something here.. thx for sharing.
good review Jaison Micke thanks you numero uno
Man you blew TOADS up! Glad I got there early. Ape sent me!
I had the same issue with the CAHR and the Sean told me they have extra wire for a Counterpoise. Doh!! So yes, you take off a bit. I used my CAHR antenna for POTA with Ken, Jess, and Frank. Worked very well. Also, I hung mine very similar but I used a Bongo Tie on it on the end and I had it up for 2 weeks in the back yard that way. Amazing antenna. Great engineering talent of Ape, Chuck, TO and Sean.
I appreciate the credit, thank You.
Thanks Mike!
That CAHRtenna is AMAZING!!! I wish they had a storefront or other way to order. It's magic!
I just built my 1st EFHW aerial with a 49:1 unun. Where have I been all my life!!!!
Guess I am going to have to learn to wind a toroid. Can't wait for the followup.
Good video Mike, love these types of videos. I was wondering if you have ever gone out to ( Double Lakes Recreation Area ) its a nice little Park and it is the Sam Houston National Forest so you can use the POTA # assigned to the Forest. it is closed to where you live and might be a good place for you to check out. 73 KV5P
Looked at their page. Nice priced kit.
I have switched to using a Nana VNA for antenna work. My MFJ-259C is better than nothing but the VNA is great for tuning and adjusting as it shows the designated range in real time. Just remember to calibrate every time the frequency range is changed.
I bought a nano vna a couple years ago. I hated it so much I gave it away after about 10 minutes of owning it. No thank you.
I like my nano VNA .
Mike, the CAHRtenna was almost bang on for 60m! I don't see any problems with it. 😉

Hi Mike,
Awesome antenna. That's one I would like to try, but hope I won't be QRT in about a month. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U
Does the link to order only work on weekends, I’m getting nothing but a blank screen on that link
Seem that most 49:1 EFHW antennas are basically the same. What is different in the CAHR?
EFHW are great antennas. I like mine.
Nice video! So what was the final length of wire for the CAHR antenna that you used to get the great SWRs?
I have no idea.
@@hamradiotube 🤣
WHERE IS THE CAHRANTENNA WEB SITE.? I WANT TO READ MORE.
Looks great...Let's see the bandwidth with a chunk of RG8X or better. It will be significantly less but nice non the less.
Well now you got me wondering...There is very little loss in the 20' of RG-316 I'm using though. About .6-.8dB on 7 and 14MHz.
Nice....................
Mike, you pretty much single handedly caused all the CARHTenna's to sell out in like 2 hours. Before you video, there were 17 on the list, shortly after, all 50 were sold and 12 more for the next batch. Hopefully Ape buys you a beer at least. 😊
But if Ape is buying, poor Mike gets stuck with Miller light.
Yeah we def don’t want that!
That was the goal. Ape tells me they’ll have more in about a week.
@@hamradiotube Wait, was the goal to sell more antennas or to get free beer?
That's awesome. Maybe I should sell my own
Where can I buy one?
how did you figure out how much to cut off?
Your historical my brother. Us Mike's usually are. 73's from n2dbi ny
How do i get a CAHRtenna?
I'm confused, I think it was the pro FORD shirt. its an acronym for Found On Road Dead, Or F'ed Over Rebuilt Dodge.
Real nice antenna review.
Where to order from? 73
Timing of this was pretty synchronistic, as I did this exact same thing with my own EFHW last night.
nice end insulator. where can we get it?
I assume you're talking about the little S clip things I use?? amzn.to/3rKfLyV
This video sold another CAHRtenna. It'll be my first experience into efhw territory, but I wanted a kit so I knew kinda what I was getting into!
That's great to hear. They have a slightly modified version of this they are selling now, though it looks like they are out of stock...coffee-and-ham-radios.square.site/product/cahrtenna-apollo/8?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=2
@@hamradiotube yep! Called the Apollo now. I got one of the last two in stock.
@8:10 SPIDER!!!!
So SM58 for an antenna analyzer I think you got the better end of that deal.
I think it was a Beta58 but yep.
WELL WELL what must we say some guys do no how to do it other think they know,
73, good luck,Pieter
Hey, MRD... ever heard of IGATE 2 pro for Android? Let's you use just a phone or other android device, cable and a radio to set up an IGATE. However, I can't get it to work when others do. Am I using the wrong cable? Download it, will you? Get it to work and make a video about it before that know it all Josh does. Oh, there's a free version to start with.
I don’t know what an Igate is, nor have I heard of one. I’m also happily deep in the Apple ecosystem and wouldn’t dream of owning an android or windows device. I think we’ll have to let my friend Josh tackle this one.
@@hamradiotube APRS I Gate. It's a receive only set up and not a digipeater. It uses a TNC to forward the packets to the net. In this case, the software and phone are the the TNC, so you don't need something like the mobilekind. Guess you're not doing much with APRS?
Timely, I just got an email saying my sparkplug antenna just shipped and should be here Sunday. Just ordered the CAHRtenna. One can never have too many antennas in their kit(s).
Buy all the antennas!!
Why was the Stick Pro sent back?
It was just a loaner from Gigaparts. I wanted to buy it but they needed it for something and there are no more. :(
Mike wore his white pants for this video lol
I have no idea what that’s supposed to mean.
@@hamradiotube Deadpool 2 reference
I was told when I first became a ham to not buy anything from MFJ because it equals "Mighty Fine Junk".
Yeah I’ve been told that. It’s not all true. Their analyzers and tuners are amazing I think.
If I could only get discord to work! It doesn't like me even though I've registered before. Either I'm stupid or as I believe, discord is fucked up!
Did GigaParts give you the option to buy the Stick Pro instead of send it back? Those things are unicorns now. PS....Check your mailbox soon.
No, they needed it for warrantee. No big deal.
@@hamradiotube interesting, I wonder what they will replace it with? They not exactly being made at the moment and have been delisted from HRO. The mfj isn’t working and the Stick needs warranty, hmm. You got any idea why all these went bad all of a sudden?
@@forgetyourlife to be clear, the stick doesn’t need any warrantee right now. They just wanted it in case they had to make a claim which is understandable. I have no idea what’s up with the MFJ one though. I got a replacement from them and that one seems to be off too.
@@hamradiotube ah gotcha, man I wouldn’t have given that up. I would have sold 400 bucks worth of blood plasma and payed them for it. Maybe that wasn’t an option but usually is with test products in other hobbies. I plan on selling mine for a thousand dollars 😎
too bad they only sell on discord. I have no desire to join that bullshit. Good video nonetheless.
I questioned it myself but it is what it is.
