How Bengal became Muslim Bangladesh (Part 1: The Buddhist Bengal)

  • It was the year 1203. The Turk general Bakhtiyar Khilji had reached the gates of Nudiya, the capital city of the Hindu Sena Dynasty. Khilji had already burnt and destroyed several of the ancient Buddhist monasteries in the Magadh region, including the famous Nalanda University, Odantapuri University and Vikramshila University.
    After burning these great Buddhist centres of learning, the Turkish General moved towards the heartland of Bengal. At that time Bengal was ruled by a weak and old King, named Lakshmana Sena of the Sena dynasty. The king was in his nineties. Khilji and his cavalry entered the capital disguised as horse traders. Once inside the city, they charged straight towards the king’s palace. Overwhelmed with this sudden attack the king fled through the back door into the forested areas of East Bengal. Now Khilji was the ruler of the last stronghold of Buddhism in India.
    This started the long process of Islamisation of Bengal which took more than five centuries to convert Buddhist Eastern Bengal into what will finally emerge as the Islamic Bangladesh.

    All Buddhist majority regions of India converted to Islam maybe because of absence of encouragement to warriors due to the preaching of peace but at the same time we have violent kings like Ashoka and even Kung fu and other martial arts born in Buddhist heartlands. New Indian Buddhist should remember that Buddha never disencouraged self defense.

    Pala empire was a major force in the spread of Buddhism in many parts of Asia;
    It was from Pala empire that reached a form of Buddhism called Ari Buddhism to upper Burma and it was from Pala empire the prominent missionaries reached Indonesia and Tibet (sumatra was predominantly Buddhist from 6th CE to 12th CE ). from both these countries(Tibet and indonesia) it carried out further missionaries to China.
    Eventhough now Buddhism has almost faded away from the whole of Bengal except for few pockets in Chittagong Hill tracts the remark it added on the Buddhist history is undeniable .

    Political support is one of growth engines of soreading of any religions. After 12th century AD, Buddhism and Jainism buth lost their political support, replaced with islam and hinduism. Like many south Indian kings were initially jain but later converted to Hinduism. For instance, hoysala jain kings converted to Hinduism. When islam started to spread in india, Jainism and Buddhism were already weak economically and culturally. Strong holds of jainism n buddhism magadha converted to Hinduism and islam.
    After collapse of pala dynasty, hindu sena dynasty took charge of bengol and spreaded hinduism. Same with Pakistan and Afghanistan where Buddhism became weak politically and culturally, replaced by hinduism later islam.

      @@Storm-1.The verse you quoted (9:29) is not saying that Muslims should fight non-Muslims and force them to pay the Jizya. It talks about an event in particular. It talks about the Ghassanid Kingdom and the Byzantine Empire. It doesn't tell to kill non-Muslims. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had sent emissaries to many neighboring kingdoms encouraging them to accept Islam. The Ghassanid governor of governor of Basra Shurahbil ibn Amr had one of these emissaries detained and executed. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked the Ghassanid King Jabalah V to either pay compensation to the emissary's family or send Shurahbil ibn Amr to be executed but he rejected both options so a Muslim army of 3.000 soldiers was sent against him and verse you quoted (9:29) was then revealed encouraging the Muslims to avenge the emissary. Jabalah V asked for help from his Byzantine overlord Emperor Heraclius who sent a contingent of 5.000 soldiers who combined with the 5.000 soldiers Jabalah V had. Toghether, the combined ally army of 10.000 soldiers managed to repell the Muslim invasion and win a phyrric victory at the Battle of Mu'tah altought they lost a total of 3.350 men in the battle which is almost half of their combined armies meaning they could not exploit their victory. Many tribes that had joined the Muslims took this opportunity and broke away...

      It wasn't that long ago when thousands of Moslem t3rrorists in Ramu, Bangladesh by spreading rumour of blasphemy against Buddhists, burned down thousands of ancient Buddhist manuscripts as well as hundreds of Buddha statues. Let alone the incidents of Bamiyan Buddha and others!

    Muslim social attitudes on modern issues have caused controversy everywhere. Islam to be incompatible with secular society, and that, unlike other religions, Islam positively commands its adherents to impose its religious law on all peoples, believers and unbelievers alike, whenever possible and by any means necessary. Islam allows to propagate abuses, such as the mistreatment of women and homosexuals, and slavery. They also state that multiculturalism allows a degree of religious freedom that exceeds what is needed for personal religious freedom and is conducive to the creation of organizations aimed at undermining secular values. According to poll, high people had an unfavourable view of Islam, higher than for any other religion.Islamic rule in India was a form of colonialism, characterized by the imposition of a foreign islamic culture, religion, and political system on the Indian subcontinent. Muslims were foreign invaders who came to India and imposed their Islamic faith and culture on the indigenous population. They point to examples of the destruction of Hindu temples, the imposition of Jizya tax on non-Muslims, and the forced conversions to Islam as evidence of this colonialist mindset.

      There is no ultimate truth for fools of different religions. It doesn't matter until humans out efforts and people are not interested in enlightenment

      Are you lacking brain cells? Nalanda was destroyed and then Bengal invaded. Nalanda is West of Bengal, closer to where the Muslims were invading from…
