This is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.
Don McLean's iconic classic from 1972, brought back to life by Don & Home Free....it's art ! Just perfection and our hearts are filled with a bittersweet joy, knowing how Vincent suffered but despite that, brought such beauty into the world.
This was entirely magical. The collaboration between Don and the guys actually enhanced even the original version by Don as excellent as it was back 50 some years ago. I could see Rob doing a solo cover of Vincent and it would be just as great as Don's original.
I've been listening to and enjoying Don singing this song since it came out. I now can appreciate it even more with Home Free joining in with this great singer.
Home Free and Don McLean sound so beautiful together. I loved when Rob and Austin singing together. Rob has the perfect tone to sing this song. He has the same tone to his voice as Don. I really enjoy watching your reaction to this song.
This song was about Vincent Van Gough and his tragic but beautiful life. The beauty that he left behind I believe showed what he wanted to say from the heart. I think Don McLean caught it wonderfully in his song. I know they all sang that song and made me fall in love with it again. ❤
This song always brings a tear to my eyes. For several years now,I've thought they should do Starry Night because they have the vocals to express the poignancy of this artist and his life. My expectations were exceeded. Rob and Austin killed it. I always pictured Rob on lead. His voice can make you cry,he's so good. Tonight, Rob said on our livestream that when they did American Pie,he told Don McLean how much he loves this song. Don McLean, said,Then let's do it. What a wonderful story teller McLean is. He wrote this after reading a book on Vincent Van Gogh's life. Thanks Red for a great reaction!
Home Free has a way of bringing out emotion in their videos and they did with this one, the video just added extra to the sweet song. It was beautiful!
Hauntingly beautiful lyrics about the troubled life of Van Gogh. Don also knows how to paint a picture with his lyrics. #HomeFree collaborations are the best and always ensure the featured artist(s) takes the spotlight. Just WOW!
I've always loved this song and Home Free has made me love it even more. Bonus, we get to hear Adam's sweet voice. Don still sounds wonderful. And, Rob!!! Thanks for the Home Free reactions
Have listened to several reactions to this song after I listened to it 3 or 4 times myself! It’s not getting old at all! The respect Home Free did this with Don is incredible! They are like cheese and a fine wine, perfect pairing! Enjoyed watching you watch them as they take us on an emotional journey! Absolutely beautiful song and Rob!!!! Your friend, low bass Kenneth
American Pie is a collab with Homefree as well would be a nice one back to back with this. Red you have a heart and soul as big as Texas and both are so sweet and tender you are amazing and it is no wonder your channel is growing and growing onwards to 25k ❤❤❤❤❤❤GUYS WE CAN GET HER THERE BY JULY 4TH TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT OUR ❤❤❤❤#redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #beautifulcountrygirl #redsarmy #reaction #homefree #homefry #homefreereaction #donmclean
I've always liked this song. It's still amazing that Don asked the boys to back him on a second iconic song. And they also back him on the title song on his new album, American Boys. There is an audio-only video on Don's channel. It's a bop.
This song is as aged as American Pie, in that it was originally released on the same album. I was working in a record store at that time and that album sold like crazy. It is, of course, based on Vincent Van Gogh's most famous painting - A Starry Night. That painting is currently in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. When I visited Amsterdam, I went to the Van Gogh Museum and was disappointed. It had about 50-60 self-portraits of Vincent and little else. Home Free really modernized this truly wonderful song, and I'm glad to enjoy it with you. Thanks for sharing.
So wonderfully done by Home Free and Don McClean ... they let him shine and added just the right amount of themselves ! A beautiful song from the past that deserved their kind of love and attention ... well done !
Wonderful reaction! I thought the version of American Pie that they did with Don was good, But this...this is just next level. Because of the fact that Don is in his 80s now, and still sounds as good as he ever did, and the song lends itself perfectly to their minimalist (though not truly A Capella) arrangement, this is actually more touching to me than his original, and I would not have thought that possible.
This is such a sad 😢😢and beautiful, and when Rob came in wow goosebump all over but cred to Don he has voice like in 1973 i love this, thanks for your reaction 💞💞👏🏽👏🏽
Was waiting for you to react to this one. I figured it would move you and it did. Home Free always seem to elevate any song they sing, whether it is an original of their own, a cover or even a cover collaborating with the original artist. They stay true to the original while putting their own stamp on it. Don wrote a lyrical masterpiece with "Vincent". Beautiful poetic words and melody and Home Free added beautiful harmonies. I am an artist and painter myself and my uncle was an artist and an art teacher. I remember studying the different artists of the past which included Van Gogh. This brought back a lot of memories for me. Continue to follow and love your channel and reactions. So until the next one, have a blessed day.
I gave loved this song since Don McLean first released it in 1972. This version accompanied by Home Free just enhances the beauty of this song. Home Free give great respect to any artist that they collaborate with, but I detect an abundance of love as well.
Merci, merci, merci!!!
I loved it too and have to admit I wasn’t a huge Don McLean fan when I was younger. But wow, it was tremendous. So beautifully done and Rob and the boys along with Don sounded so wonderful. Those painting and those harmonies killed it! Good one Red!🤩😄
It's up there for me too.! Great reaction.! Boy, can that old man still sing.! Rob is awesome and together with Austin they have the best harmony going.!
You might want to check out the song Killing Me Softly, best known performance by Roberta Flack. It's all about listening to a man singing songs such that they seemed to reach into the woman's soul. The song was written about Don McLean.
I was at school when Don McLean wrote and released this beautiful song in the 1970s and I've always loved it. Home Free really help to bring out all the emotion in the lyrics. I really hope this version gets the attention it deserves.
Beautiful reaction, they really did a wonderful job to give this great song new life !! I held it together until Austin said "Vincent", could not hold the tears. How could I have heard this song dozens of times and not really hear the lyrics, Don is a wonderful poet.
OK how did I miss this? Who's the wise guy who unsubscribed me from Home Free, we need to talk! Thanks Neighbor, would have hated to miss this as it's among Don's best work, tied for top spot with American Pie won't ever choose between these two iconic tunes of Don's as I have loved both since they came out. Echos of my 30's when these came out.
Hey Red… There’s a movie about Vincent VanGogh’s life…”LUST FOR LIFE”…Kirk Douglas played Vincent….he actually kinda looks like him 😔‼️ This video is just Tol Perfect 🎶🎵♥️💕♥️🎶🎵‼️
Beautiful song by Don MacLean. If Van Gogh was alive today, he'd probably be diagnosed as suffering from severe depression and anxiety. It's a shame he lived in a time when the human mind was so misunderstood.
Don’t forget “ I’ve Seen” sung MAINLY by Tim of Home Free with the “boys” joining in……hope this remark satisfies, had somebody have to mention that the rest join in and of course I know that…..
A very lovely rendition here! Love the artwork behind them, and of course, all of the vocals were excellent! It’s very soothing to the soul, as well! Definitely a fast and long time fav! Maybe you can react sometime to their rendition with Don to American Pie? It’s fabulous! It’s a long one they all cover a verse and Don sings the chorus each time. It’s brilliant!
Given you appreciated the subject matter here, I bet you would love the Doctor Who episode "Vincent and the Doctor" S05E10 - it's super poignant and the best new Doctor Who episode I've seen.
Sincere reaction. But, context; Dom McLaen: 'Misery sells!' Van Goch's fame is more based on success by failure drama than painting. He has qualities - I live within visiting distance op the first Stinking Rich collector (Mrs Kroller Muller) Museum and Van Goch Museum Amsterdam - and I was a professional painter/illustrator. 1 work sold for 170 mln?! Drama business.
Red, I will test you observational powers, at about 5:30 minutes when there is transposing effect before the final scene of HF observing the painting , we see the HF group transposed onto the center painting. Am I right?

Add Love you to the Moon and Back with Maggie Baugh. Have tissues handy, probably their sweetest ever!😊
My hubby of 52 years is Vincent and also a painter. I have been dreaming for a couple years that Home Free did this one. Dreams do come true!
Home Free and Don McLean sound so beautiful together. I loved when Rob and Austin singing together. Rob has the perfect tone to sing this song. He has the same tone to his voice as Don. I really enjoy watching your reaction to this song.

These people are true "artists". Art makes you "feel", maybe happy, maybe sad. Pictures do this, photos do this, these singers do this also. Bravo!
Nice reaction. This song always gets me teary eyed and this rendition with homefree was beautiful.
It was so beautiful
#HOMEFREE #DONMCLEAN a masterpiece!
I can honestly say this is my FAVORITE rendition of this beautiful song. It has torn my heart out. ❤️

Thanks for the video Red
This is one of my favorite Don Mclean songs , and Rob just added so much to this with his angleic voice
Just like their version of American Pie,this is a masterpiece. No pun intended.
Well, I have no words. Simply a masterpiece.
Still chokes me up like 1972.
A lot of people can enjoy the song for what it is. It is just sad that the meaning of it is not well-known by many.
That was a great version. This is one of my mum's all time favourite songs. 💕
😍

🥰
Tragically Beautiful... A perfect description of Van Gogh.
You have to react to home free with Don McLean singing his song called American Pie.
Beautiful reaction, I loved seeing the reaction in your eyes.
This is one of my favorite songs. I remember when it first came out. I'm so glad you reacted to it. I can see that it touched you, too. ❤❤

7th Avenue. Rocking Robin. With Chris Rupp, the Rupp sister, and Rob...being Rob.
Lovely 😍.
BTW, someone would have recommended this song anyway; you're just ahead of the curve!
American Pie next, please, you won't regret it.
Beautiful song by Don MacLean. If Van Gogh was alive today, he'd probably be diagnosed as suffering from severe depression and anxiety. It's a shame he lived in a time when the human mind was so misunderstood.
Fantastic react R.!!! took art wrapped it in poetry and gave it wings with music...right?

should've used his original version when Don still had a delicate voice with minimal accompanying instrumentation
