  • Some hot takes recently have recently been throwing Project L down a bit and casting doubt on the game as a whole. And with the recent EVO Japan interview with the Cannon brothers, I go over and talk about why every one of y'all are wrong, and what we need to look out for with Project L.

As a League player I'm not sure I quite agree that they are adding characters based on how well they sell skins cause Darius and Illaoi are pretty wild picks. Especially Illaoi who's only gotten 2 skins, other than her release skin, in 7 and a half years. When compared to champions like Lux or Ezreal who get 1 to 2 a year or newer champs like Seraphine or Viego who have gotten 3 and 4 in only 2 years, one of them being a skin of the highest rarity/value which has 20x more work put into it than anything Darius or Illaoi have ever or probably ever will get. It looks like they're hopefully picking characters that will truly be good fits for the game which is part of what makes me excited.

They'll never admit it, but the FGC has some of the worst crab mentality of any community.

I don't think you understand what it means to get updates every few weeks or just monthly. It's never "this week strongest character, next week bottom tier", it's "Decreased damage on this sweep by 2, increased super meter build on this character by 4 points per normal used" Basically gradual small changes to remind people that yes the devs exist, they are doing stuff, fine tuning things that will only affect things on a macro scale. With more radical changes to some specific characters every so often.

Will Project L turn out to be Valorant or Runeterra? Nobody knows.
But what both game have in common is quality, and I think Project L will have that as well.
However, whether it will be successful or even save FGC, there are so many factors that I dont think anyone can call it.

i played league on launch 2010, took 2-3 years break bc im from brazil and their only server was NA. when BR server came they had launched so many charactes it took me 3-4 years to buy the whole rooster playing almost everyday for 4+ hours. actual grind 💀

Project L being server based and me living in south Africa is quite sad. I dont think there is a single game that can "save" the fgc. But i think it will for sure bring new people in to try fighting games

Once again my boy cloud keeping it real. First of all, what a dumb way to frame your argument "save the fgc" like that doesn't even mean anything.
Also I just wanna point out that content creators dooming on project L just because they hated crosstag battle (you know who they are) are just kinda sad. I understand that you are totally free to talk about why you don't like tag fighters, but there's only so many ways to say "I personally do not like this genre". It's really not worth tweeting, let alone making a 10 min video on youtube.
Btw no one really cares if you think it'll be successful or not, cause people who like it are gonna be playing it anyway. Let people enjoy their hype.
Fgc be full of cringe takes every time a new competitor is trynna enter the scene

No, don't let your biases pray for the downfall of _any_ fighting game. I don't play TFH, but I've seen gameplay of it and it's such a well made fighting game that looks great and has tons of personality. You can tell it was made by people who love fighting games

well, you can't patch league like every 2 weeks either. all balancing did in this game most of the time, was to just shifting the meta in other stupid directions, killing character identities and for sure, nerfing things that aren't problems as well. the whole system with items and levelups is quite hard to balance properly and given the fact, that you can also play champions on different roles and with a shitton of different item combinations, one patch because of one specific "problem" destroyed other things for no reason multiple times.
this being said, the way most people cry for patches just to change the meta instead of actually balancing the game to it's best, really scares the shit out of me. atleast the brothers don't want to patch this game too much, since they seem to somewhat understand what fg's are all about, but even getting tiny amounts of inspiration from league balancing, would kill project l completely for me.

No game will ever save the FGC because the FGC is extremely elitist and toxic. Period. That makes a large majority of people not even bother with fighting games period. And then half the fighting games have absolutely dog shit single player content that's worth anything. So you'll spend 60-70 on a game that has no real solo content that's meaningful so you get forced online but then you jump online and it's some no life try hard that hasn't slept since 100 B.C. tea bagging you.
The FGC has MAJOR issues that absolutely no game can fix. Games can HELP the FGC a whole bunch but definitely won't save it. Tons of toxic communities exist in tons of games, difference is those games are big enough even DECADES later that it doesn't even matter. Fighting games don't have that privilege they are BEYOND NICHE in terms of genres and overall total players.
On the topic of games, the reason the FGC stays extremely niche as well is there isn't a singular fighting game that's considered THE GOAT across the board. People legitimately play 100+ different fighting games that people don't even remember exist anymore. So the new games that come out already start at low numbers(in comparison to normal) from the jump and just bleed players overtime. Even in the FPS genre we have a pretty solid top 3-5. CSGO/Valorant/Apex/Fortnite. Millions+ daily players across all platforms. Tons of other FPS games sure, but we have SPECIFIC huge games that are well known as the top spot of the FPS genre. The only game that even remotely touches that in terms of casual players (the majority) is Smash. But even that in terms of viewership and players is ABSURDLY tiny in comparison to almost ANY other genre of game. I'm pretty fucking sure Lawn Mowing simulator tournaments have higher viewership.

Another brain dead take. Complaining about FGC being toxic just shows people that you don't play any other games.
Saying the community is the problem is actually retarded considering the FGC looks like heaven compared to the shithole dumpster humans who populate mainstream games.
Once I got into fighting games I was surprised how friendly the community is because I keep seeing people like you complain about how it's toxic and elitist. Stop lying.
I've played Apex/League/Valorant for hundreds of hours each. I've played Dota for thousands. If you think the FGC is worse than those games then we must not be playing on the same planet.
