  • I found this cassette in my stuff while moving. No idea where I got it, but I put a little 80s slideshow with it for goofs. Thanks to Dave DeCaro for some of the nicer photos. davelandweb.com

+Rigo Rodas Oh man, I could've paid my student loans off a few years earlier if that place wasn't there.

I remember it too. I believe there had been J.C. Penney's store there before the building was turned into Space Port. Next to Space Port I saw the Book Nook bookstore.

I'm not sure, so don't quote me, but the Block's College Shop was on that corner when I was a young teen. Then when I was in college it was Spaceport(my college days were '81-85). I too spent a lot of hours in Spaceport, mostly playing Frogger, and another game I can't remember. My friends and I went to Garcia's Pizza afterward, and frankly, it was the greatest. I loved Bloomington then, and I live there now, since the late 1990's. I still love it, but man o' man, it has changed a lot.

Loved seeing this! Thanks for posting it. Ah, the 1980s! I spent a lot of time in Bloomington.
My family lived in Whitehall in the early 1970s. Then, we moved to Los Angeles.
When we moved back we were south of Bloomington by an hour.
I used to play music at college parties there in the 80s. (That's all I'll say about that.) LOL!
    Great video!

I grew up there and have lived in L.A. for 20 years. I am wanting to come back there, part-time. Getting old and miss the size and slower pace.

I live in Whitehall now. I’m not sue it’s changed much since you’ve lived here in the 70s. Its definitely a slower pace. I also played music at college parties along with some of the Bloomington bars in the mid 80s. Great memories!

I enjoyed seeing the photos from the past. The song extols "...the people downtown" and just this morning I saw people sleeping on the concrete under the canopy of the public library and now it's an everyday sight to see people holding signs about needing money. If I walk along Kirkwood I have to look ahead so I can avoid panhandlers. (I don't give money directly to those on the street but I do support organizations that provide assistance)
