Uh...one major thing ppl are forgetting: Disney bought and acquired Marvel for $4 billion. What Sony & Fox have are properties that are leased or rented or limitedly contracted for....so technically, Fox can't sell the rights to X-Men to any other studio besides Disney who is ultimately the owner.
If they even try, Disney can file an injunction against them.
Take for eg Star Wars belong to Disney but they lease it to EA to develop games. EA doesn't wanna commit so they decided to sell the star wars franchise to Nintendo. Yeah....that can never happen!

It depends on how the Contracts are written. And given how shit a place Marvel was in, when they sold off those Film Rights, I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of Fox's Contract.
+mike wattie This is a problem. With what Disney is doing, it could lead to the fall of the industry as a whole. You want Disney to either shut down theaters or raise ticket prices? That is what would happen, if they follow their business practice of The Last Jedi. Also if Disney's Library becomes that big, there goes Hulu. Now you have Disney charging 30+ dollars a month for their streaming service. Plus it would be the death knell for Logan and Dead Pool franchises. Disney will not do rated R. Have to keep that 'family friendly' image. Even though they are anything but.
Once infinity war comes out Disney will have plenty of profit to buy the fox catalog if they want.

if 21st Century Fox is disbanding 20th Century Fox and selling it off in pieces, or if they forbid the new owners from allowing it to continue under the Fox legal name (to prevent confusion), then that could make the contract void since the Fox movie studio (the legal entity the contract was made with) no longer exists.

The Government needs to approve the acquisition deal between Disney and Fox Studios. Murdoch (mates with Trump) will have a higher chance of approval. Disney could own 40% of box office revenues. Rupert's son will then have a place on Disney's board of directors (also Murdoch family will own 5% stake in Disney). Disney will own 30-35% of Hulu streaming (to compete with Netflix and to some extent - Amazon). Disney is out to end Netflix, or at least, take control of the market. This economic financial powerhouse will not support the industry, especially the creative community. I've been vocal about this, because the sector is shrinking due to buyouts, mergers and purposely killing/hurting competition. This 'sounds' great for film lovers, but it's not.

The easier solution would be for the rights to revert back to Marvel. Disney buying a big studio like Fox, or Sony would be a nightmare in theory. I just hope it works out in some way.

Correction: WB wouldn't own the TV rights to X-men and Fantastic 4. Marvel owns those. If you recall Fox had to enter a deal with Marvel to produce Legion and the Gifted. Remember how it was a huge deal them working together on the TV side of things?

iziah williams-Collier Disney is trying to buy more than just X-Men and FF, they're trying to get distribution rights to the original Star Wars and their entire catalog. Fox cannot legally sell the rights of the X-Men or FF, which were LICENSED to them from Marvel.

WB, 20th-Fox & MGM the old big 3 of Hollywood (latter joined by Universal) always had gentlemen's agreements with each other. I think they'll divide the Fox pie.
While I have doubts that your WB explanation checks out (can you really claim a monopoly on a genre?) I think your conclusion (they aren't looking to buy FOX) is correct for different reasons. Currently WB is trying to merge with AT&T and struggling due to concerns about it being too big (an oversimplification from a legal prospective I realize but it works for the sake of clarity here). I can't imagine controlling 21st Century FOX would help them much in this regard.
Sony will only damage FF and X-Men the same way they did with Spider-Man. Period. So Disney should buy Fox Studio.
Seems like that's why Comcast dropped out of the deal. They wanted the entirety of Fox and all of its assets but Fox knew that would cause more trouble than it's worth..
Warner Brothers is one of the parent companies of the CW. Warner Brothers can't by Fox because that would put two broadcast television networks in the same house. FCC would not allow that.

They are likely contractually forbidden to sell Marvel property to WB even if they can sell other title under them. It is very unlikely for Marvel legal team to have made that big of a mistake that end up letting a competing company buying partial right via indirect means.
Marvel studios isn’t even trying to buy out fox . Fox and marvel are going to team up under a contract and share specific characters the way Sony and marvel did. Why would fox throw away the 6 movies that are coming out in the near future. Also fox is moving more towards an r rated film series starting with deadpool than logan, new mutants and deadpool 2 the dark Phoenix is even in the talks to be R rated

I understand there are reasons for me to not support you after going to other users and I know Disney is a very big company but you're right about Warner Brothers not buying Fox. And about Universal, Disney only has one popular franchise that they still work on and that's Pirates of the Carribean. I would've mentioned Narnia but the third film was done by Fox YEARS before the purchase due to a dispute with Walden Media and Disney might not be involved in the next film (12-27-2019).
Imagine there's an Xmen movie where there's a flashback to WW2 and we aren't introduced to Magneto for the 3rd time but Wolverine as he fights side by side with Chris Evans as Captain America. Let's get real here... Disney isn't trying to buy Fox for the Marvel properties. It's all about the original Star Wars catalogue.
If FOX sold the film rights of the X-Men/Fantastic Four before Phase 3 hits, we could've seen them team up with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers 3-4.

On the John Campea show, he mentioned on an earlier episode, that apparently Fox cant sell the marvel rights, they are non transferable, if they sell their movie division to anyone else, those rights would revert back to marvel studios automatically, dont know how true that is, he also mentions by the same vitrue sony cant sell spiderman to anyone else but marvel.

What I don’t get is why is Fox looking for a buy out? If anyone should be looking for a buyout it should be Sony at this point.
Don't forget, Fox also owns the distribution rights to the first 6 Star Wars films. Want to guess how much of a monkey wrench that throws into Disney's epic plans for the Star Wars franchise, having exactly zero control over those films, being completely unable to address the fans cries for a re-release of the original trilogy in unedited form on blu-ray (or to even lack the power to say no)? Or Avatar, they'd love to get their paws on that series. On top of that, they get to pad their upcoming streaming service with all of Fox's titles in addition to their own catalog (and thumb their noses even more at Netflix). If the FF and X-Men rights go off to some other studio (Universal, Sony, whoever), it could be another decade or more before Disney gets another opportunity like this. The way I think the rights work is that they stay where they are as long as films keep getting made. They only revert if the studio allows it by stopping all projects with those titles. Hence, why Sony kept making Spider-Man movies because they didn't want to let the rights go and eventually settled for making a deal with Disney and at least making some amount of guaranteed profit over doing a third reboot of the franchise and risking epic failure. This is Disney's big chance to tie up all the loose ends with their Marvel and Lucasfilm acquisitions and finally get everything under one roof and under their control. I really doubt they'll just let it slip away, especially if Fox is actively looking for buyers.
It all boils down to who has enough money to purchase Fox. Disney and Sony are probably the biggest guys right now. Disney has money to burn.

I'm thinking Sony and fox will agree to something in terms of games and maybe movie crossovers, fox has made it clear they wanna keep xmen and deadpool and fantastic four, so I think they'll just partner with Sony, potentially we could see xmen and fantastic four back in games like marvel vs capcom an maybe even the future spiderman games on PlayStation and even the xmen and fantastic four in their own universe of games.

If we are just talking about X-men/ Marvel, WB makes sense to me cuz the DC brand is hurting (theatrically) and there is no "monopoly" when it comes to IP. Sony makes even more sense cuz instead of scrapping the bottom of the Spiderman characters history, they can branch out w/ Xmen- but Tom Rothman's there.

I don't think Rothman is happy that he has to share a character with another studio. That deal with Spiderman being in the MCU was made before he was in charge and he's pissed. Not to mention he HATES Marvel Studios

Don’t forget about the fact that Marvel also has a little contingency rule that they put in place the moment they sold the rights to their Marvel properties and that is when a studio is looking to sell a Marvel property Marvel has first dibs for making an offer to buy their properties back and since Marvel is owned by Disney you can say that they are more or less going to get their properties back

If wb were to buy fox yes they would keep avatar , alien etc but even if they wished to buy f4 and X men they could not. This is because f4 and x men are licsenced meaning although the movie rights are owned by fox the characters are owned by disney/marvel and basically fox does not have the permission to sell these characters. This means the movie rights would revert back to marvel/disney.
Just saying, if WB buys Fox they had better do Justice League vs X-Men. I mean they won't but we can dream, right?
