Every time I watch this video, it hits just like it did the first time. Probably my favourite brass band performance to date.

Ausgezeichnete Darbietung. Das Ende ist einfach sensationell, Gänsehaut pur, auch nach dem 20. Mal hören...

Fabulous performance! And Mrs. Rey is without a doubt the best soprano player in the world right now. What a sound!

Bravo Valaisia ! You came. You played. You conquered. Thank you for contributing to a wonderful day's banding, a day I will never forget. The Holy Grail of a beautiful composition, performance & venue made this great event one to cherish and remember. And respect to you Monsieur François for sharing this with the brotherhood of Brass Bandsmen / women.

Keep coming back to this for my fix.
Sorry my dad died before hearing it.
Would've loved to have seen his reaction.

Heard the top 2 bands performances, they were some distance in front of the others imo, 2 absolutely faultless performances, though differences in each stylistically, my personal preference was for Whitburn, but must have been a very difficult choice. My favourite modern piece with 2 stunning performances, what a day it was ❤️

I hate it when philistines applaude before the music comes to an end.

well, I played in a Championship band for 5 years and couldn’t stand the awful music any more, the first 14 minutes of this sounds like they’re randomly warming up in the band room all playing different tunes, then a couple of drunks come in and fall over the percussion equipment, and about 14 minutes in we hear some nice sounds, and we wonder why the front three rows have 66 seats and only 22 people while the balcony behind the band is only slightly better at just ove 40% full. This is not music to satisfy anyone except a small group of enthusiasts who seem to love it. 12 comments on here all very positive, but from 47,398 views, that’s 0.025% and I bet the majority of the views are from bandsmen, most are afraid to comment in a negative way in case they might upset someone, or be called ignorant. Well if we want to get a crowd to play to and enough income to run the contests, we need to do something different. We use huge halls which cost a fortune and nowhere near fill them, the music costs a fortune from the blisters and is still full of mis-prints, by the time we pay for adjudicators as well, it costs a fortune to run a contest, we charge everyone, including players a fortune to go in and listen, so few bother, the bands end up paying a huge entry fee, add to that registration fees and paying the conductor, then the travelling expenses and the hotel bills for the bands, even if you win first prize it’s going to cost each band thousands of pounds. 1970’s I can remember going to contest and playing to a full hall, small entry fee, 50p to register a player, free admission for bandsmen, so we all went in to listen and learn, cheap for supporters and music they could listen to and appreciate, and if you won some prize money you might even make a profit for band funds………Now this’ll stir a few people up. P.S. I’m not complaining about all the music used for our top contests, some of it really is amazingly good, and even the general public can appreciate it’s quality, but too much of it is not fit for purpose of satisfying a large audience and that’s what we need at our contests and concerts if we are not to continue going down the plug hole.

I think with younger players coming through who are just all amazing like this band you have to write difficult pieces like this to challenge bands in competitions now.
