I remember my first time trying to remove corneal FB under the slit lamp It was horrible
I had a very coarse tremors
now I am totally convinced that every thing comes with practice , we consciously or even subconsciously learn many things with repetition

totally agree with you. doctors arent superhumans- just have the courage to keep trying when we fail, until we can do it

I am gonna repeat my question for doctor Eyeball I wish you Dr Radwa adel to understand me doctor , I have tremors and many colleagues said that they didn't notice while working with me I know how to make sutures with all needle sizes but not hand tendon injuries repair didn't enter that field but I have that concern that I am not fit for surgery I am interested in general surgery and I am afraid that I can't be a surgeon , in brief how to know that my tremors are within acceptable limits I want to mention that yes sometimes it took longer time for suturing but didn't affect the quality

Thanks so much!!! This skyrocketed my confidence in performing procedures. My anxiety threshold can be haywire and affect the stability of my hands. I mean, initially I had issues fitting contact lenses on a patient. Just got the necessary boost. Thanks again!!

You don’t need great hands to be a surgeon, but you do need good hands (especially ophthalmology). I’ve had friends who could barely strike a match.

How do I stop this freaking tremor? I always shake when performing venipuncture and any other procedure involving small objects still at premed btw. Any tips?

I am a medschool student from germany and working as a Surgical kind of assistant in orthopedic surgery where I need to hold legs and instruments. I have done quiet some surgeries but lets say every forth operation or so I get this vasovagal reaction your were talking about. I start sweating and fell very bad, breathing is tough and so on. I have not figured out the reason yet. I want to do surgery as a specialty but if I dont get that under controll it will be tough. You have any thoughts, tipps and tricks in that?

    Hey Doc !
Thank you so much for this video.
I have a minor tremor in my hands and i am in dental school. Do you think this can be a problem ?
I think as an ophthalmologist you even need more preceise hands as a dentist ?
My tremor is very slight, amplitude is very very small but high frequency.
Do you see any problems ?
Do you know colleauges with tremors who are still able to do great work ?

Hi,fellow doc here with similar issues as yours. I had tremors to such an extent that I wasn't able to cut a single suture for removal during my internship. But I got a job as a house surgeon (on purpose) so that I can gauge the level of & intensity of my tremors and decide whether or not I would be able to perform surgery..to my surprise I was able to suture properly and even closed minor surgeries for my chief surgeon like hydrocele & Circumcision. My point is if you practice enough, you'll be able to get better and you can see for yourself .

Just use both hands holding the needle holder until you’re getting more relaxed. Try to find places where you can’t rest your hands on. Talk to the patient, it usually relaxes both.
