I get so pissed off at eye exams. First, I always get to my appointment on time but end up having to wait at least a half hour. Every. Fucking. Time. Then I finally get in the “prep” room that’s not so bad, at least there is something happening. But then you have to go sit in another room for another fucking half hour before they can see you. By this time my blood is boiling and I am on a fucking hair trigger. Then people start shining bright lights in my eyes, which I was always told was a bad thing to do. And of course theres the added bonus of having blurry vision for the rest of the day. I can’t believe that after all these years they still haven’t come up with a better way to do this. I hate the fucking eye doctor. And he knows it. I have gone ballistic in his office more than once. All the waiting is the worst part.

I really appreciate your video on this. My mother unfortunately has to get this surgery done. She’s blind in one eye from diabetes and high blood pressure, has been for years. Over the past several months she’s had pressure buildup. Her doctor tried to do a surgery to relieve the pressure, but did not worked. This is the next step for her and she is so scared. I didn’t show her this because I know it will freak her out, but I watched it for me so I can know exactly what the experience will be like for her. You were clear and concise with your explanation. Thank you so very much, Doctor. ❤

Do you think it is unfortunate that even after 4 years of residency training, most of the trainees are only competent in 1 surgery (cataract)? You would think that a training program would try to get you competent in every surgery of your specialty. Also, the politics in medicine is unfortunate when you highlight the idea that if a comprehensive ophthalmologist starts doing subspecialty type surgeries, that they will then get less referrals from the subspecialists in the area.
