the fact that that guy sent his son away because he KNEW he would try to protect his family (and might succeed) is the most infuriating part for me. he did everything he could to make sure his young family was as vulnerable as they could possibly be. they had no chance.

    • @Omkar.Gawade

I think he was just tired of all the responsibility of so many children. We don't have much information on it. It would be hard to support so many people when you are poor especially during that period. We don't know how the relationship between them was, whether there was always tension and friction. It would have been a very hard life for the children after his suicide. So he must have not wanted for the others to suffer because of him abandoning everything so he decided to kill them too. I can see that happening.
Him doing it just for the joy of murder is a bit unbelievable cause he could have just gone and shot up random people and even managed to get away if he escaped and continue with his life. Doubt, the police at that time had enough materials like CCTV cameras and forensic equipment to catch him if he got away. If he kills his own family there is no way or place for him to escape. He is basically signing his name as the biggest suspect.
So, I don't think he was happy about having to do that, or as the narrator said 'he wanted to take a picture with the victims to show off'' and be remembered.

@@Omkar.Gawade - when I heard the date of when the “familicide” took place, I realized it was only a couple months after Black Tuesday happened, which was the beginning of the Great Depression.
I’m not sure if this connects as a potential theory for why Charles decided to do what he did, but it might be noteworthy as he had seven children and a wife to support as a relatively new farm owner. I can only imagine what went through his mind if and/or when he learned about the stock market crash.
I personally theorize that Charles feel into a deep depression because he knew their farm was about to be dried up from a lack of sales (and unable to afford irrigation and seeds). Maybe he saw no hope for his, his wife, and (most) of his children’s futures.
Though, I could be bias with that theory because my mom’s side of the family told her and me about what it was like living through the Great Depression. I wouldn’t want to have lived through any year in that period. It’s truly tragic.

    • @Omkar.Gawade

@@MS-dc2tt Yes, but even the time this happened it would have been very controversial and people would have many different theories. Only if you were to have personally known him before the incident would you have any idea of what might have happened. There could be all kinds of problems in their relationships them being a family of 10 would make it even more complex. There might have been all kinds of abuse and other things happening. You won't find this information even at that time. Let alone online after 100 years. Most of it would be speculation.

I actually babysat her when she was just a small child (6-8yrs old). She was so full of life, always energetic & always so excited to tell you about her dreams. I still have a couple cards & pictures she made for me before I moved away. I got to see her a few years later as a preteen & remember how happy I was that she still maintained the happy & eager to live a full & exciting life. She had so much more to offer this world & would have achieved so very much had her life not been taken. One find memory I have is one evening spent playing 'Punk Princesses' where we dressed up in tutus, fishnets, awful neon makeup & took out some bad guy dragons. Bc we were so hardcore & bad butt we beat the knights to the dragons.
She had an amazingly awesome personality with an attitude & imagination to rival it. I hate that the world was robbed of such an awesome soul.

Apparently she randomly posted something 2 months after Skylar was found instead of the next day after she went missing (which is said in the video when the post is shown).
She was active on Twitter until the day her friend got sentenced on May 1, 2013 (months after confessing about what they did). Shelia was publicly identified as the second killer in September 2013, got her sentence in January 2014 and was tried as an adult.

The Luna Park fire was an absolute tragedy. There were actually witnesses who told police about some bikie types heard discussing using kerosene to start the fire. These witnesses were young kids from the local youth refuge. After they made their statements, the police returned to the refuge a few hours later to re-interview them. The kids were then threatened by different police into changing their statements, then actually charged with lying to police.
Other witnesses were ignored and disregarded at the corenors inquest.
Everyone in Australia KNOWS it was Abe Saffron that was behind the fire, and he was aided by corrupt police.
Some girls were meeting the young boys who were killed that night, but the father of one girl told them not to go, as something bad was going to happen. Her father was a well known corrupt cop who was really good friends with Abe. So its clear that he knew beforehand what was going on.
A documentary on ABCTV Australia was shown earlier this year, which uncovered all this information, AND MORE!! One witness, who was a teenager at the time of the fire, and who made the statements to police ( he was from the refuge) still lives in fear of his life due to threats by police at the time.
Abe went on to buy the land after the fire through a shell company owned by members of his family, and sold nearly all the rides etc. It was all over the waterfront position of the park , which was worth millions of dollars.
Luna Park is still up and running to this day, but it will never be the same as before the tragedy. The families of the victims were told a memorial would be put at the site, but nothing was ever done.
At the end of the day, 6 innocent children, and an innocent man died, all as a result of a handful of greedy people. May the victims all rest in peace, and my ongoing condolences to the loved ones. This should NEVER be forgotten!💔🌹

A heads up about the photo of the boy killed in the Luna Park fire (with the masked man). That photo was not taken inside Luna Park. It was taken roughly 5 km’s away at Circular Quay (another popular tourist spot and meeting place in Sydney) The man (in the mask) was part of a parade at Circular Quay on that day, the parade itself was not near or had any involvement with Luna Park.

@@TheSilverwing999 It sucks more than a bit. As a parent the more I think about it, the more I realize how furious I would be to find that someone used a photo of my (dead) kid to craft some creepy mystery thing, for fun, and maybe for money. In fact, when you think of all the tragedies that have felled young children and all the public outrage that the parents invariably face, how they should have protected their kids, no matter how unlikely they could have predicted what followed, you could construe this LIE as if the parents allowed a creepy stranger in a mask to get near their kid, here's the photographic evidence, and that guy may have had something to do with the death. I don't know how anybody got hold of this photo in the first place, but it sure gives credence to the paranoia about what you post on social media and whatever, because someone took advantage of the date stamp to totally reconfigure that day. As for Lazy, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, like HOPEFULLY he at least found reference to this "story" from multiple sources, so had some tangible reason to trust it. But honestly, this highlights a problem with these multi-story uploads; what do you do if one of them turns out to be shamefully false? Just remove the whole thing? I don't know, but he should do something.

David Shaw and Deon Dreyer weren’t ever friends. Deon was 20 when he died in 94’. Everyone who dived at Bushman’s Hole knew about his body and kept an eye out for it. Shaw set a record of diving the deepest in the cave and found his body near the bottom. He then came back with a very well thought out recovery plan not long after as the parents deeply wanted their son’s remains. Tragic story, there’s a good doc out there on it.

It was a well planned dive, but as you eluded too, when Dave tried to move Dions body he became entangled and while struggling to get free got the Martinis (Nitrogen narcosis). He knew he was going to die and sent a message up the rope to his friend higher up that he wasn't coming back. A few hours later Dave and Dion's bodies floated back to the surface. Fuck colonialism and imperialism, particularly shit like what the US did to the Philippines. Also, fun fact: Pennypacker, the hilariously named governor of Pennsylvania during the 1910s, based the then-new state police on the American military constabularies established to put down rebellions over there and directly hired veterans from their ranks to brutalise mine workers who tried to strike or unionise in the exact same way that they brutalised the Filipinos. The cave diving story is heart breaking, but there is more to it that might make people feel better. If I remember correctly (some of this could be wrong feel free to google it) they tied a line to the man who dove down to get the body so that his body wouldn't be lost if he passed away too. They were able to pull him out along with the body of the other diver because they had gotten tangled together by the lines Lazy was talking about. The mother of the diver who had been stuck down there for years was able to bury her son and the diver who went down to get the body accomplished his goal, even in death.

And women were ALWAYS made to look bad when they were the victims of men. No matter how sick a man was somehow someway a woman did something to trigger violence in a man. The mother surely knew but back then what power did she actually have to stop it that wouldn’t end up with her being hanged, jailed and having her other children taken from her? Not defending her but when you look at what that man did to his family and how she wasn’t spared it looks like she was powerless no matter what.

As for the way in which the Lawsons were dressed, it's largely forgotten in modern times that having ones photograph made was quite an important (rare and expensive) occasion. Photographers' studios were equipped with backdrops, props, and huge wardrobes to dress up the sitters to look as good as possible. They almost certainly changed from overalls and other rags into the photographer's studio suits & dresses, had the portrait made, then got back into their own clothes. I have a couple of late nineteenth, early twentieth century family portraits where this was the case.
    ADDENDUM:

There's also the fact that back then, you had to sit for a very long time to get a picture taken, so you had to keep your face still to void blurriness.
You had only one shot at it...
You can't make a big smile and keep your visage still for long...
But that's only part of the explanation; in the 1930s, family pictures were still influenced by portraits. When you pose for a painting, you tend not to grin and to keep a solemn expression.
So it was a mix of technology and culture; look up wedding pictures from that era, everyone has their poker face on.

It was a place called the Voodoo temple but no one truly believes that had anything to do with it. They were raging alcoholics that spent their nights getting high and drunk. He had PTSD from 2 tours in Iraq and she was bipolar. Everyone who knew them believed it was a matter of time before something tragic would happen. Addie would blow up out of nowhere and get violent, not just with Zack but also with her friends.
After Katrina, they had to get back to normal life and pay bills. That stressed them both out and Zack also had responsibilities to his 2 kids from his marriage that Addie resented. It all came to a head when she found out he was cheating on her. She blew up on him and he lost it.

@Joseppi Diaz honestly, the way he cut it off is what made me look it up. Everyone has their issues and I guess he didn't feel comfortable talking about Addie and Zack's.
It might have been a time thing, too. To summarize 2 people's lives and their tragic ends (the way I did, for example) comes off cold. He may not have felt comfortable briefly explaining their backgrounds without detail but then realized it would add 20 minutes to the video or something so he just left it completely alone.
I agree that people put too much stock in Voodoo and other beliefs whenever they can. Most things usually just come down to people just being people.

As a native Igorot, this is pretty heartbreaking. These pictures could be a source of stereotypes that my people has to bear throughout the years. Both local filipinos and international foreigners. Whenever someone that is not from our tribe hear the name "Igorot"; the first thing they could think about is that we are backward savages who cuts people heads with tails hanging out our butts. In the case of foreigners, I've seen advertisements in this time period depicting my people as dog eaters. Which is pretty infuriating because this stereotype didn't just put our tribe in a bad name, it also spread to other Filipinos too.
Fun fact to those reading this : "Igorot" is a general term for the tribes found in the Cordillera mountains of the Philippines. There is not one type of Igorot tribe. Each tribe has their distinct language, costumes, and beliefs. The colored picture of four girls is from the Ibaloi tribe. That is the tribe that closely related to my family . The tatooed men might have been from the Kalinga or Bontok ( as these are fond of tattooing. Google "Apo wang-Od" to learn more). Bontok tribes are said to be tough but they are pretty respectful with women. In fact, Bontok culture is the only culture where the word "rape" doesn't exist. It just shows that our culture is far more colorful and complex than what history depicted us to be.
