You are very good and Whitacre is really brilliant! My choir sang "Sleep" during one of our last performances. Write this in the search: you will love it for sure! Corale Novarmonia - Sleep (E. Whitacre)
I am a sax player, and i have excelled quickly, and needed inspiration. My band director showed me this video and said that he taught this player. this is my current inspiration and will be
It's not just the fact that you have changed my mind about the beautiful sound of the sax, but the fact that you this was played with such mastery and precision. It's absolutely flawless!
Someone posted this to the Virtual Choir 4 forum this morning, and I can't stop listening to it. Lovely! I fully admit my limited musical knowledge but did not know that saxophones could sound so hauntingly lyrical. Absolutely wondrous. Thank you for enriching what has already been an incredible experience even more. All my very best to you.
I went to your recital tonight, and I thought it was absolutely lovely and brilliant! I was telling all of my friends how gorgeous your playing is, and one of them actually heard you before and pointed me to your youtube. You're such a fantastic player. You're an inspiration to all musicians!
This. all of this. Saxophonists should be demanded to be taken seriously. People say that if you're transcribing a vocal work that for an instrumental ensemble, that the lyrics get lost in the translation. Chances are, if you're listening to a transcription of the work, you already know the original and thusly the text. Expressivity is dependent entirely upon the performer and...Bravo sir! I like this as much, if not more than the original (but that may be my position as a saxophonist talking)
my high school wind ensemble is playing this song, and i thought it was so slow and boring and now i hear this and i can't wait to perform it! it is truly a gorgeous piece, and you made it sound amazing =)
This is a dream come true..I've always wanted to hear this song played by a sax ensemble and hear it is and its just purely amazing. I've been wanting to arrange this piece for my saxophones at my school. I'm about to graduate and playing this piece at our spring concert would be a great way to end my last year. So by any chance, do you have any sheet music to this or anything you can send me? I would greatly apprecate it. Thanks :)
I thought you looked familiar. I met you at your grad school audition at Indiana. I was the kid that went to Hebron if you can recall that far back. This is absolutely beautiful playing. Well done!
any chance you could do this same thing on The Seal Lullaby? You have a beautiful baritone saxophone sound too! I play tenor as my primary, baritone as my secondary, prefer to stay away from alto and soprano. Like i said, beautiful playing and i would love to hear you play The Seal Lullaby, it is my favorite Whitacre piece=]
Hey, well done! The overall sound is a bit reedy and bright, but I love the soprano sax. They way it soars over a note without sounding mechanical (3:03) is great. For kicks, I layered your video on top of my trombone 'Sleep' video and they sound brilliant together!
@asinhawkeye0065 hey Johnny, its me mitchell. And i have some of the sheet music to this. Bob gave it to us at sax camp. i can get the rest of this sometime by talking to German
Hey man. I'm a sax major in college and was wondering if you had a copy of the sheet music for this that you could send me. I talked it over with my professor and we're interested in getting our studio to play it because we were very impressed with your work.
@Chirpingler Excuse my rudeness, but how on earth do you find this to be "mediocre"? It takes an extremely talented musician to be able to control not just one, but every instrument of the saxophone family at such a high level. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard!
Bob, was this for school or just for funsies? oh and I think you sound slightly better than when we attempted this at sax camp. eh maybe more than slightly. except for Bari, that bari player at sax camp was a boss. :) good job man.
I used two Rode NT-55s small condenser mics and the audio software I used is Logic. If you end up using Logic, let me know! I had no idea what I was doing and now I know a much better way to go about it.
@Chirpingler I see where you are coming from, but i still find it hard to believe you can call this sound mediocre, that's all I'm trying to say. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this matter. lol
@kenbrack125 Excuse accepted. I believe you think this is beautiful because of the harmonics of the tones put togehter in chords, but the sound form the saxophone itself would I definitively call mediocre. I do not direcly blame the player, the microphone or recording device may not be the best, or it's just low quality on the playback. However, as WhiteNitE521 commented about the sound, and not the combined saxophones together, I would see it strange that he changed his mind listening to this.
@WhiteNitE521 If you think this is gorgeous you havn't heard much of what a saxophone can sound like. This is rather mediocre acually. If you have started like "the sound of the sax" listening to this you should listen to music where the saxophone really can show off, such as Jazz, blues and funk! =)
u wot m8? Seriously, though...I personally love the rich chord structures and the dissonances. Both of those always seem to add amazing depth and "flavor" to compositions in any genre. But to each their own, I guess... :)
... Yup, it's confirmed, I shall pick up sax. This was the most beautiful thing I have heard From a saxophone,
Saxophone
Congratulations! Eric Whitacre himself has posted this on hiw Facebook and Twitter pages, great job!
Yeah, Bob! Beautiful!

Amazing! I was pleasantly surprised. Very pleasantly, and Eric posted this on his facebook so that's pretty cool too!
I was not expecting this to work so well but it's beautiful! Really nice playing!
Glad you did it on different saxophones instead on one type :)
This is really nice. You have a very pleasing tone on each sax.
I always wanted to play this in wind ensemble back in high school. This is awesome. I always wonder what it would sound like on a alto sax.
Amazing!! Wonderfully done!
Wow, I have never really liked the sound of a Sax until this video, absolutely gorgeous!
It's not just the fact that you have changed my mind about the beautiful sound of the sax, but the fact that you this was played with such mastery and precision. It's absolutely flawless!
I always had the desire to do this but not the recording equipment! Great job on it as well

Dude This is great! I played this song as the Ballad in my Sophmore year in high school Marching Band! One of my favorite Whitacre works!

I found this from Eric Whitacre's Facebook page. :) Really great work. You're incredibly talented.

Allen Vizzutti - Firedance ( Jazz Jamboree '77, Warsaw )
Exceptional work. Makes me want to do one of my favorite choral pieces on sax in the same way. Would you mind?
@mrsax13 Of course I remember! Thanks for the wonderful compliment.
@jamesmustafamusic Thanks for the kind words :)
I really need to figure out how I can have Eric Whitacre as my mentor.

Hey Andy, follow concertband land for a whole bunch of high quality Whittacre peices.
remindes me of derude - sandstorm
I always wanted to to this but I don't know what program to use.
@asinhawkeye0065 hey Johnny, its me mitchell. And i have some of the sheet music to this. Bob gave it to us at sax camp. i can get the rest of this sometime by talking to German
O.K. I see a Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone right? It takes skill to blend the saxophone into a classical sound. This was very very good.
This is great! Where did you get the arrangement?
Hey man. I'm a sax major in college and was wondering if you had a copy of the sheet music for this that you could send me. I talked it over with my professor and we're interested in getting our studio to play it because we were very impressed with your work.
Very impressed. How did you get all the videos clips the same size
OMG! this would be awesome as a Sax choir. Do u mind emailing me the Parts?
@WhiteNitE521 Haha, well I'm glad to change your mind :)
Joy Revisited By Frank Ticheli
We should play this
@Chirpingler Excuse my rudeness, but how on earth do you find this to be "mediocre"? It takes an extremely talented musician to be able to control not just one, but every instrument of the saxophone family at such a high level. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard!
Omg I wonder if there's a horn version
Bob, was this for school or just for funsies? oh and I think you sound slightly better than when we attempted this at sax camp. eh maybe more than slightly. except for Bari, that bari player at sax camp was a boss. :) good job man.
Does anyone else feel like he should be playin the theme from the brady bunch right now????
I used two Rode NT-55s small condenser mics and the audio software I used is Logic. If you end up using Logic, let me know! I had no idea what I was doing and now I know a much better way to go about it.
Listen to Otis Murphy playing anything.
The one person who disliked this was a flute player
What program did you use to do your multitracks?
Can i please get the sheet music for this .?
I would really love to have a copy of the parts for this, if anyone could send me the music i would be super grateful!

what school do you go to?
@Chirpingler I see where you are coming from, but i still find it hard to believe you can call this sound mediocre, that's all I'm trying to say. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this matter. lol
Y'all do realize he's just using the choral score....
