    I had no idea just how labour intensive tobacco farming is. Fascinating, Thankyou for sharing. The way of life for the Amish is something which current society could hugely benefit from.

    Seems like a lot of manual labour to process the tobacco leaves wishing you a Merry Christmas and Blessings in the New Year.

    3 correct. The farmers honesty is the biggest part of the process. It would be very easy to slip a few lower grade leaves into the bundle.

      The customer will start to notice, then you will loose that customer.

    With burley we had 3 grades. Top or #1, middle or #2 which were the most, and bottom or #3. We never wrapped in bundles we just graded and put the leaves straight into the box.
    Side note I've watched all the tobacco vids and there are some similar attributes, only our plants were taller.

    Wish I could buy some of these for making some hand rolled cigarillos.. none of my local shops here in Altoona Pa have any decent cigar wraps besides the mass produced garbage wraps and blunt wraps.. might have to grow some myself lol

      The tobacco after baking will be delivered to the buyer in Lancaster. After that?

    When we tied tobacco in hands we did a much neater job of tieing for both dark fired and burley.

    What is PA-41, and where do they sale the seed ?

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  Год назад +1

      It is a variety of cigar leaf tobacco that is specific to Lancaster county. Not sure where you can buy the seed. There are seedling growers that sell the seedlings to the farmers. I’ll have to check and see.

    The Amish seem to grow tobacco and watching this clip they're not removing ribs or stems its straight down the centre of the tobacco leaves.

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  Год назад +2

      The buyer purchases from the Amish and then sells to cigar manufacturers. It is the cigar manufacturer that processes the leaf.

    • @LancoAmish

      @@jonbishop5726 , it’s something that gets done on days when outside work isn’t being done. In fact, the more damp it is the better as the leaves won’t crinkle and crack. It’s done usually over a few months time.
