Ha ha I'm an 8w9 so it's true I don't seek out to lead I like just being a team member but somehow I end up leading in a lot of cases and it is when there isn't any leadership. This is so spot on, I avoid committees for my own health sometimes.
So many 6s mistyping as 8s
There is no way I could ever just fit in! I can't sit back and watch things fall apart. Instead, it's just move out of the way, and I'll fix it! Not about being in charge, it's about getting things done.
Love the new opening look Dr. LaHue! Keep up the great work.
Thanks! Will do!
@@twlahue it's great, should switch up the music tho, it's a bit too generic
I agree, great intro except paired with the generic music reminded me of a cheesy 90s motivation seminar.
yay! i’ve been waiting for another type 8 video :)
All resonates a lot with me. Especially:
- I cannot stand indecision - professional or personal, I'd rather do someting than nothing and just don't fear consequences the way other people do. (According to Big 5 most 8's have almost no neuroticism )
- I have a VERY hard time being on a team if it is full of 6's or 1's - usually because they are so afraid to make mistakes that they end up fillbustering and stopping anything from ever happening.
- While I have been called dominant on occasion but what I'm usually considered is defiant/rule-breaking or "difficult"
Neuroticism has 2 parts; I`m pretty high in volatility and super low in withdrawal which makes sense if you`re mapping them.
You are a 6 then… sorry, but thats simply not what 8 is….
@@jern2216nah. Even if you weren’t being vague nothing stated would give you enough info to type or dispute type. Sorry that’s not how it works
I’m an 8w7 and I hate being in charge of other people because I don’t want to have to babysit what should be other competent adults. But I do end up being the leader most of the time, except with my one group of friends who are mostly very assertive. I love being with them because I don’t have to take charge and make decisions all the time.
I say all the time, “It’s not my job to babysit you.”
From all the Spanish and English channels that I know that talk about enneagram, you are the one that has helped me more and that best describes me.
I'm ENTP social 8. (Isn't one of your daughters this same combo?).
Thank you very much!
There’s only been a few times in my life where I was happy to follow. Where I felt comfortable and excited to have the pleasure of working with others in a team. This is when I was a cadet 20 yrs ago, and so I was exposed to some highly talented and charismatic leaders. I mean, these youth were superstars. I was so happy. Haven't felt that way in a lonooong time. Not for lack of trying. The corporate world is a huge soul killer. Now I focus on how to empower others... Especially young people!
Similar story. I had a good boss once. I’ve been searching for a second ever since… now I work with teens to find their calling. If I can’t find a good leader, I’ll make one!
The thing you discussed around 12:40, regarding thinking about something before doing or acting. I immediately though "that doesnt' work for me" and I spent a little bit of time thinking why that is. I think it's because I normally find opinions, or solutions or decisions with my gut feeling. When I hear something, I immediately have a gut feeling or an instinct that leads me to my opinion/solution/decision. Before the question even reaches my brain, my gut already knows how we feel about it. And the times when I react like a type 5 and I go into that withdrawal stage is when that first line of 'defence' doesn't work or doesn't provide an answer. And if that is so, boy do we have a problem! That's when my system panics, you know? When I don't have an immediate response, that's when I start thinking. And if I need to make a decision with my head, I better have all the information and all possible angles and I need to know and understand everything before I can even think about making a choice (which always feels like a terrible way to make decisions, haha, sorry fives!). So that mechanism is an emergency escape button, but not how I make any of my normal decisions, form my opinions or come up with solutions. I honestly trust my gut and my instincts more than I trust anything else in the world, including my brain. So stepping back and thinking about my gut reactions before acting feels unnecessary, it does not feel like there is anything there in need of second-guessing.
Just a quick observation. Love the new videos! :)
Just recognized myself in your description🙈
Hey Tom! I've heard you mention "go willingly in your direction of stress" before, and I've always been an advocate. It keeps you healthy and actually helps avoid stress.
What do I do when I sense a power vacuum, or the wrong person is in charge? As an 8, of course I'm in charge, but I usually do it from the background, sorta. I WANT someone else to hold that position while I lead less conspicuously. I don't want to deal with the minutiae, and gladly support a "leader" to do the legwork. It's probably typical that everyone knows how much "the boss" leans on me, but, maybe like a 5, I don't want the attention or to have people hanging on me sucking my energy. To me, being a leader means being successful by having my team or crew being successful.
As a 5w4 8w9 2w1, I find this super interesting!
That resonates with me Dr LaHeu,
I like to lead by example. Have led many race rowing crews to victory.
It's challenging for me if someone is trying to take charge of me.
I lost my job a year ago because an incompetent manager wanted to instruct me what to do. If instructions don't make sense to me it's impossible for me to follow them.
The team I was leading fell apart after my departure. They are great people some are hoping I will to build a super-team again at another company. - ESTP 8w7
Loved the opening ❤️ congratulations 👏
Amazing. Your new video beginning. Is WOW. You on stage talking to people. Is your life now and going forward.
Yes! Thank you!
"I'm not on a team, I AM THE TEAM!" ........
Love the enthusiasm! Being a one-person team definitely has its perks, and your passion shines through!
It's more when someone who is incompetent is in charge for me
Everyone wants to talk about how a type 8 made them feel, but no one wants to talk about how everyone makes us feel
Which is how?
Yep
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts! Your support means a lot!
@@twlahue I will likely be scheduling another session soon
How is the enneagram helpful? This is a genuine question of mine.
