Not sure if you are a ham and got into an argument with some oldhead on 40m or if you’re just upset that you lack the basic cognitive capacity needed to get an amateur license but people like you talking like this are precisely the reason that the hobby is limited. Why do you feel the need to tell the world that every ham is an elitist loser when that simply is not the case? I just really don’t understand why you would want to perpetuate negativity and push people away from something as opposed to trying to make it better. I’m sorry that you’ve had such bad experiences apparently, but that doesn’t mean you should come out here with your 400$ mic and try to make the world a worse place.
I used a roger beep the other day and got cussed out. I told him I am sorry their parents did not name him Roger, but, it was time he moved past that and got on with his life. This appeared to make him even more angry. Some people.
I think personally you do a wonderful job at explaining right and wrongs. Someone can’t blame someone else’s ignorance on you. Some just want and will not ever get it.
That does it! I'm going to become the first female repeater owner! (But if someone uses the business itinerant frequencies at 0.5W for a fun band, I won't utter a peep.)
I got my technician license and my amateur extra license in less than 2 months. And I still don’t know more than you Randy. I still watch your videos. Thanks for doing what you do Randy.
Wow , it took me almost a year to go from start to extra. But I did have to get my code speed up to 20 wpm. I think that may be what slowed me down. Just the way it used to be. CW forever.....proud SAD HAM
I appreciate your wisdom and information. We had a problem with our local repeater, where an individual was broadcasting pornographic soundtracks. After the initial shock (and, regaining my focus, lol. FCC was of no help, as you've noted, but local law enforcement was able to intervene and charge the individual with cyberstalking and something like, "unauthorized access to a computer". Local LEO actually arrested him on Christmas Eve. So, while no real Federal help is often available, certain local jurisdictions may be. Thanks for all you do Randy. Great channel and I never leave without an additional pearl of knowledge.
Remember, some HAMS repeaters have special rules. Some only allow talking about medical ailments that the HAMS user is currently or has experienced in the past. Others, only allow you to talk about your radio rig, antenna and feed line along with reminiscing about the boat anchor tube rig currently holding the door open.. Some progressive repeaters allow talk of both, at the same time.
The year was roughly 1997. I got my first pair or Motorola Talkabouts and I was so happy. That happiness paled, though next to my sheer ecstasy of hearing a built in roger-beep. I can hear that roger-beep echo in my memories and I smile.
Ham radio is so dull without roger beeps. Roger beeps let you know that you are alive! I modify my roger beeps to go for 6 seconds AND I use reverb/echo on my microphones just to get that nostalgic CB radio feel. 73s one and all.
A single "beep" or even a "bedoop" is okay. It's the "*BEEDOOLAABAAADOOP*BURP*FART*" nonsense that goes on for thirty seconds after unkeying, that is annoying.
Thank you for mentioning that permission is required on closed or private repeaters. On some of the radio centered Facebook groups there are people insisting they can use any repeater they wish as long as they can figure out the tone and don't believe that closed or private repeaters exist.
Thank you, ole Queen Randy Bo Dandy, for educating us, the ignorant masses, on the proper use of the frequencies to avoid fines, arrests, and imprisonment by Big Brother which would deny us of our freedom to purchase Big Macs, hair care products, and unnecessary plastic objects at Dollar General.
My name is Roger, and not only do I resemble this message. But I also approve it. And not just because I slept at a holiday inn Express one time. But because it will indeed save the planet. One Roger Beep at a time. THAT IS ALL.
I’m not joking at all when I say this: I got my license and joined the local club, and I eventually stopped participating because I could only find so much enjoyment in listening to 87 year old men talk about the weather.
A repeater owner doesn't own the frequency! If you put up a repeater, do it as a public service or go get a commercial frequency! I'll use whatever public frequency I choose. If you don't like it FAFO!
Just getting started in this and about to purchase my first radio. I'm wanting to make sure I have as much information before making that purchase. You mentioned "friendly frequencies". What frequencies would be "friendly"? Side Note: Awesome content!!! Great editing!!! Well done sir!!! Happy to subscribe and follow!!!
Just asking for a friend...is there a way to change the default roger beep to different sounds or tones? On a Boofwang or any mobile rig. Is it acceptable to use compression and / or reverb / echo whilst transmitting on GMRS? I think either of these may get "some" folks a bit riled up. KMG365
The blinking lights in the back ground are decoded as follow... Lower green ai3gnea and it repeats. Upper left. 3666m4g9x and middle top 4d9vsf. When you decode the group it got this.. "Shhh No one cares. Ruby."
I don’t get it. How can a sad ham help during an emergency when they rarely leave their basements, and during an emergency would most certainly be too afraid to leave at all?
I think people that use the term "SAD HAM" should pay for the privilege. 2 bux a month and it will make you feel a lot better. I say this as a true SAD HAM......CW fordver !
Are you sure? That's the first i'm hearing this. Some people have told me online that if you break the FCC laws you face big fines or jail time - how could that happen if they aren't laws??
I don't know whether to laugh or bring a mob with shovels and pitch forks to your door over the Roger Beep on the ham repeaters, LOL.... You are always good for a laugh. Have a great day, and watch out for "some people" who come to your door.
You are not allowed to broadcast at anytime unless you have a broadcast license IE like KOA or something like an AM broadcast station. You may only "transmit," with intent to make or carry on a two way conversation. You cannot be driving down the freeway and announce weather, traffic or hazardous road conditions. That is one of those other goofy little FCC rules.
There were two repeater owners sitting on a fence, the first one was named “RE” the other “PEAT”. If “PEAT” fell off who was left, “RE”, who fell off, “PEAT”, if there were two repeater owners sitting on ‘a fence, the first one was named “RE” the other “PEAT”. If “PEAT” fell off who was left, “RE”, who fell off, “PEAT”, if there were two repeater owners sitting on, ‘a fence, the first one was named “RE” the other “PEAT”. ….being a repeater owner can be redundant.
I missed most of what you said. Each time you picked up that UV5R by its antenna all I heard was an Elmer saying never pick up your radio by the antenna.
I personally think the roger beep is a good thing. many of the people we talk with on the ham bands want to transmit so badly they can't wait, and just go for it, too early. Of course no one says 'over' at the end of their transmission (like they are suppose to), so a roger beep totally makes sense. Yes, using it is not popular, and it has stopped me, until now. This ham is going to start to use it, and I will also instruct people to please wait until you hear the beep, to reply. Now for the truth, the real reason Hams hate the Rodger beep is because their $400 + ham radio don't have that function. 🙂
here are some tips from a REAL ham: -always use the roger beep -more power is always better -if somebody is on the frequency, just continue to talk non-stop -you want somebody to move? TUNE right on them! -talk about your prostate, cancer, back... and knees -be fat
One only needs to attempt to get an FCC license to understand that the rules were not meant to be followed - only enforced. And they can't be bothered to enforce them anymore either, since most of us plebs started using fed-friendly cell phones.
I feel sorry for that poor Boofwang antenna and sma connector. Sooner or later you are going to break it. Be kind to your Boofwang radio. It may be cheap Chinese junk, but it has feelings too.
I think you've just triggered every ARES member in the country. Thank you for that. And remember, what happens at the Golden Corral stays at the Golden Corral.

Is it ok with the cusser to say, "Roger, beep"?
Asking for a non compliant GMRS'er.
I'm just here for the Roger beeps.
Do they make "Ronda" beeps for women?
Just wait until NaR makes a Richard beep

Fantastic t-shirt
Fong! 🤣🤣🤣
And "Two in the Pink, One in the Stink!"
I think I saw that movie
This is going to trigger “some people” and I am 💯 here for it. 😂
It would drive “some people” nuts if President Trump made Randy the head of the FCC…

We need to keep license requirements for amateur radio bands lest they become citizens bands.
Ever been to 7.200? The regulars there are extras who were licensed when code was required. But I know- that doesn't "fit the narrative."
