I wonder could one venture into E phrygian dominate for just a phrase or two to add some spice and exotic tonality to the piece, I am going to have to try that one
The demo solo reminded me alot of sober by tool, is that by chance what this is based on? Anyhow I really like how you put your solo at the end as opposed to how many channels stick it before the jam.
I feel like playing to this track is proving my point to myself that phrygian is just not viable. same as lydian and locrian. Even with a minor root chord and a major b2 chord my brain is pointing me to play G# instead of G. Just the rotation and pattern of notes as well as the fact that the 5 chord is diminished makes it not viable unless you changer it to phrygian dominant. Regardless of the chords. Any mode that doesn;t have a natural 1 4 and 5 in all major minor triads just doesn't wanna lead you back to where you started after you add more than a few chords from the key.
You can, and should obviously play what you hear in your head. That is the whole point. However one path towards musical growth is to learn to transcend your preconceived notions.

You nailed it! Yeah, there aren’t many great Phrygian tunes, but that’s definitely one of them. I was jamming to it and it just popped out!
