Suspended sentences aren't the walk in the park they appear to be. In this case the guy was probably drunk so he's probably on an alcohol tag. He can't go have a pint with his friends. He'll have weekly appointments with his parole officer. He'll have to not only obey the law but any additional requests set by the courts and his parole officer. A shocking number of people on suspended sentences end up in prison because they cannot obey the law whilst under scrutiny for a fixed period of time. Yes it's way less physically and mentally harmful than serving a year in prison but people who have experienced both prison and probation often say that probation is worse. In prison you are taken away from all negative influences, associations and habits. You're in crime rehab. On probation you have to practice self control and willpower to resist all anti-social influences. It's more like crime AA. That's why so many people fail parole and end up back behind bars time and time again. They're not getting externally managed to break the cycle they have to do the work themselves.

I ended up serving a 3yr prison sentence about 15years ago. It totally changed my perspective on life, in fact I'd go so far as to say I'm grateful to have had the opportunity - sounds bizarre right?!
On being released I had to ditch my old friends, fiancé & move to another part of the country and start again. It was the hardest 3 or 4 years of my life starting again.
I now use the experience to my benefit and tell the story of how I changed and how everyone can change if they have the desire to.
Often, big life changing events can kick start you into an entirely new direction - use it to inspire yourself and others around you.
Don't let the past define who you will be in the future.

As a Police officer, I am so sorry, I try my best everyday at work to Identify and arrest criminals everyday….hours of work, engaging with victims and offering all the support I can. However, time and time again the CPS and courts let victims down….and people blame the police. We investigate and arrest, the rest, like actually prosecuting and even taking it to court, is the CPS’s decision - nobody else’s! And i will say it….they are absolute wank!!!Any excuse to delay a trial. You tell them in the file there is no cctv in the area, but they will repeatedly send the file back asking for cctv, details like this course huge delays and its clear they have not even read the file just sending the file back because they can’t be bothered. So sorry the system let you down….and I hope Dear old Wes meets someone bigger than him, not hard as he is clearly a coward.

You see this time and again on these crime shows. The CPS virtually want a video showing the person committing the crime before they will proceed, and yet I am pretty sure if put in front of a jury without all this evidence, the jury will still find that person guilty, especially if for a horrible crime. I say this as someone who has sat on two juries, and very happy to have found wrong uns guilty, without a video showing them committing the actual crime!

It's not the courts sentencing it's the complete lack of investment in our courts (lack of public defenders & judges) and our prisons. Apparently as of last week we had less than 700 spaces left in our prisons. If we had investment in our justice system we would have less people in prison for minor crimes like possession and better funded prisons then people like this could be locked up.

Damien, don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but pease don’t give the food bank all the donations in one go.
Friends work in one, and they really struggle with the highs and lows of supply and demand. Huge influxes around Christmas and other holidays, which can go bad, and then shortages in between.
Suggestion would be to spread the donations out over a year. Drop by once a week/month and top up what they need, as they need it.

I'm expanding my property empire (one property) to four properties. I'm going to start with small annual donations to Shelter while I build my assets. I have been homeless, been a drug addict and lived in homeless hostels, council estates, etc and I'm already sure that in the UK my money is best given to homeless charities to fix the poverty/homelessness/drug problem that is taking over. I al do travel in Asia full time to keep my outgoings low for this purpose, and I'm taking the time to find out how best to help here. I give food and clothing in person to street people or sometimes pay to take their photo for my journal. I also ask my friends how to help and I am learning a lot. I want the property to make me comfortable, which should be pretty easy and then to be a cash generating engine funnelling from the top and passing onto the bottom in an educated manner. I'm not asking for money from anyone as you can easily give to Shelter or Centrepoint for yourselves, but I feel like this turns a terrible life into an incredible journey with a wonderful outcome.

There's a guy that lives down the road from us and he was having an argument with another guy outside our house on the night of Christmas Day a few years back. The argument ended with the second guy getting his ankle broken, leaving his foot at an unnatural angle.
Me and my wife called 999, and went out to see to him. The attacker had left. The attacker's wife and children came by. The victim got picked up to go to hospital, and then the attacker's wife and kids temporarily took refuge in our house until they sorted out what they were going to do.
I saw how the attacker's own children were scared of him, and listened to them talking about how hopefully "this will be the time" he finally gets locked up.

So glad you have recovered physically and mentally from this dreadful ordeal. It is disgusting to think this POS is free to attack others simply because jails are full. Jeremy Bamber has been in jail as an innocent man for 39 years - there's one cell that could be freed up immediately.

Making this about Bamber is not right or respectful to the family of those Bamber killed. The twins’ father is still alive.

@@user-du3nx4kp6o If you only scratched a tiny bit beneath the surface of this case you'd know Jeremy is totally innocent and you wouldn't worry one iota about respecting Colin Caffell or indeed any of his other "family".

@@JohninRosc My point was also that I was not clear about why you brought Bamber into this particular discussion.
I would always feel terrible for the father of the twins who were cruelly shot dead whilst sleeping. Absolutely tragic.

@@user-du3nx4kp6o Because Damien's assailant was spared jail because they are apparently full - well Jeremy's cell should be free as he is an innocent man! You choosing not to read the evidence doesn't make him guilty.

I would call it the “Get out of Jail Free card” because Wes should be locked up.

I had no idea your original video had been taken down. I recall being in tears after you told us what had happened and when you had showed us what it had had done to you. I hope you all the best and great you are treating this aa a turning point for you to concentrate on what you really want to do in terms of business and with your family and friends.

Mate that sucks... its not just the physical pain it causes like you say, its the day to day stuff in your head going forward. Stay strong and hopefully boomtown can restore some faith that most people out there may be a little weird - but are genuinely lovely deep down.
I'd be referring to the night in question as "My Date Night" 😅
