$7 celery up here in middle of winter.. We grow and pick outer stems... It's still growing under plastic and we've had hard frosts already... It will be there in the spring if you leave the crown and it will flower and seed beautiful umbrella flower for butterfly and hover bees
Just what I needed to know, thanks.
This is GREAT NEWS for me as a first time gardener and knowing NOTHING about harvesting veggies!
Very interesting! Nice
My first year growing celery. Didn't realize it needed extra water, it's been a dry spring here but my celery is looking beautiful ! My bunnies love the leaves!
Without knowing it I’ve been pruning my celery plant in my vertical garden exactly like that from the outer stalks in. I guess instinct guided me hey?😁😁😁
Thanks guys
Hi there, any idea why they didn't bolt when it was quite hot in there? Was it the constant watering?
We grew celery for the first time this year for our CSA.Neat crop.. Did the same as this guy, just cut what I needed.. Thanks Curtis
very good video thank you. My first year growing celery, I have 4 celery plants they were in sun too much i am giving them shade at the end of the day and the stalks are getting bigger. Im going to do cut and come again im just waiting for the outer stalks to get thicker . How long do i have until i cut the outer stalks before the plant starts bolting?
after you cut the celery on its first harvest, for regrowing, how many months can we harvest again ?
You keep popping up on my RUclips, I have given in and subscribed to your channel.
We grow it like that all d time in trinidad
THANK YOU!
I just knew you could “cut and come again celery”, but wasn’t certain how without killing the whole plant!!
I have been growing it the last two years and this year the insects really did a number on a large portion of them. First it was the black picnic bugs that would congregate down in the center of the plant chewing on the plant keeping it from growing new stalks and eventually killing the plant and didn't know it was a problem until it was time to harvest. The second was cucumber beetles chewing on the leaves and stalks. And third was slugs. It still is a great crop and around here everyone is so surprised we can grow it here in Iowa since most people are accustomed to having it shipped in from California. We also are able to have the added value of having the leaves on to show freshness and to have more uses.
I have issues with earwigs in my celery
any tips on keeping bunches of celery fresh at a farmers market? ours is ok at first and then warm temps wilt the product. thanks for the content.
Neat harvesting idea on the celery. I believe the term in English for the insect he's referring to is cinch bug or beetle.
Great video! Question - can you harvest and use the celery root at the end of the season? Or do you need to grow a different variety for celery root?
Celeriac is the name given for celery root. There are varieties that are developed for better root production, but they're not necessary. Celery is like beets in this respect; you get roots and greens from pretty much all varieties, but some are better for one use than another.
Seller is one of my favorite Staples and thank you for sharing this with me I was wondering if I had to re-plant every time or I could keep slipping and going. You’re very informative and I think you
Hey Curtis! I am curious about blanching the celery? I have to add a barrier around mine to keep it from exposure too light. Are they using a self-blanching variety?
Why is the celery I grow in Southern California (zone 10) bitter?
Good day. What drip irrigation system are you using at your farm?
Looking forward to another home Garden tour.
What variety of celery does he grow?
thats what I wanted to know
I grow mine as cut and come again in my garden, I need less space and have it all year long.
What will happen if you cut the whole thing to the bottom and leave the plant in the soil? Or us it better to do as he did by taking a few from the outside?
Lynn Lamont that’s because it loves winter
What variety is this celery?
We had a fungl issue but it did not spread and was OK just a bit of rust....
Super good stuff!
How do you prevent it from getting floppy after cutting it? I cut mine and within 2hrs it was floppy even with it being kept cool. Does that mean is lacking water? How so you keep your celery staying hard and crisp?
Ya, lacking water for sure.
won't celery bolt if exposed to a week or more of temperatures below 10 degrees?
I've never seen that. Unless you're talking 10f, then maybe.
okay good to know, no Celscius but that's what it says on my seed packet from Johnnys for Celeriac too. Ours are in the field not greenhouse.@@offgridcurtisstone
Where’d you get your hat? It’s awesome
Love the celery tips! Love the FAKE NEWS shirt! Thanks for your video!
if celery is not a problem with the bugs, why is it considered one of the dirty dozen and treated with so many different products?
Good question. Pests might be a problem when you have a 100 acre monoculture though.
Most commercial growers treat their crops heavily with pesticides whether it's needed or not.
Love your T-shirt Curtis, was he talking about flea beetles?
Lol more flavor!!
U can add a paper collar but this blanched the taste with the color
I like your "Fake News" shirt...
Why the close up of the guys crotch hahah He was just pleased about his celery
