I wish I could think of something profound to write, but nothing comes to mind. This afternoon I had to go out just as you appeared on my iPad. Annoying. I was aware of you even as my blood was taken. Then I got home and went immediately to my screen to join you for an hour of simple pleasure. Thank you, Titus.
When I am making a painting and I see and feel that it is right. I get the same feeling I get when I look at a work by a master or artist that has hit that right note. It draws my breath in deeply and I let it out slowly as I sink into the beauty of the work, mine, theirs, his, hers. I wish I could find that feeling more about my own art. As small child in the museum trying to get close enough to the canvas so I could melt into it and see how the artist did that. Thank you for sharing your process with us. It helps.
I really love the atmosphere of your videos. They are so peaceful in this chaotic world. I enjoy the thoughts you share but also the simple studio sounds - the rinsing of the brush, the sounds from the street, the rain on the window or the wind in the trees. I had the privilege of going to the Netherlands many times and seeing country and street scenes bring back memories. Warm greetings from Alberta, Canada.

Thank you Titus for this week's video. As for capturing the motion of the marching band I thought your first painting was the best with plenty of foreground and lots of streaks of light and dark. The ones where you cut off the legs of the marchers were still good but perhaps conveyed less movement. As always a pleasure to watch you paint.

Wat een mooi beeld was dat: de straat beneden je bij lantaarnlicht, en daarna bij daglicht. Ik bewonderde je moed om op dat grote vel de te klein-uitgevallen gestalte uit te gummen en die opnieuw te beginnen. Het werken aan die fanfare is boeiend om te zien: in je vrije werk ben je heerlijk roekeloos en snel. En tussendoor steeds het perpetuum mobile door dat zolderraam.. de pot thee en de closetrol. Met die fanfares heb je beweging en geluid geschilderd! Ik ben super benieuwd hoe de toeter van die sousafoon er uiteindelijk uit zal zien!

So happy to see you erase - that's my process - draw some lines, erase and modify them, erase some more, etc. But I do it on sketch paper 'til I get it the way I want, then transfer it to good paper. Otherwise the watercolor paper would be unusable.
I blot a bit with a very soft, fresh gum eraser. Since it is a bit gooey when new I don’t have to press in and “scrub.” I just make sure that I don’t grab the ones I use for charcoal or pastels and plant a surprise. 😊

Lucky people to have there house painted by you. Loved the flowers in the foreground. I spent my early years in Holland and love that country so much.
There was a time ago the slogan of a radio channel, from my corner of the planet was: "Listene to see better". I loved this slogan because in painting, we can also say: "Look to hear". I mostly paint but I also play music. I often manage to make analogies between these two artistic worlds: music and painting that I consider universal languages. It's a long introduction to get to say that I repeat myself but your watercolor of the brass band makes me think of that. I love movement, I perceive the rhythm of walking and musicians. I like works that tell a little or share a little about its author. I think it's because for me artists, all disciplines combined, are sensitive witnesses of their times. I watch and listen to your videos carefully from Montreal to Canada, sometimes with English subtitles (especially in the evening with low sound so as not to bother the neighbors). It allows me to deepen my own reflections on the artist's work. Thank you.

I was contemplating on giving up on learning watercolor until I found your videos yesterday. Especially the one where you said that there was nothing wrong with using some gouache or acrylic in the watercolor painting. Having been mainly an oil painter as well as some acrylics, I was struggling with just the watercolor to get the final effects I wanted with just the watercolor so had been incorporating some gouache and was more satisfied with my results. I was feeling as though maybe I shouldn’t be doing that. I so love the transparency and the light effects through watercolor and it was a relief to me that you encouraged the use of some gouache or acrylic. I really like the sounds of your work and just your movements in your studio. Thank you.

Titus, you talk about doing "nothing" when you take the train and use your bicycle; actually you are letting inspiration come to you with ideas and motivation - perhaps to try a new approach to solving a painting problem or just get inspired in general. I find it very healthy to just let your body relax and let inspiration come to you. When I do my daily 10 km walk in a forest - that is when my inspiration is really triggered. I study nature, listen to the birds, watch the insects, plants, trees and the wind in the tree-tops; also the people with their dogs in the forest and all that motivates and inspires me - when I get home - to do my paintings. The "source" or "inspiration" as I call it can be connected to by anybody, not just creative people. I definitely find it in nature and when surrounded by quietness. In essence inspiration is everywhere - if we let it.
Inspired and inspiring. I think because you just ARE. Not trying, to be anything or anyone. The weather, your shots of night and day. Just working. In peace.
It's an honour to experience. I feel like an apprentice who's sole responsibility is to be quiet and just watch and learn. Thankyou Sir.

Thank You for sharing Titus...I am lucky I came across your video which to me was good opportunity learning something from you.. I luv the way you express your art and have a very rich message for someone like me just started to paint and learning techniques watching many videos. I luv watching videos of Classic arts Masters Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Raphael, J. Vermeer...lot to mention.
This final soft pastels touch has brought this fanfarra painting to an extremely high level - you will get very far as an impressionist painter, there is no doubt!
I totally felt the flow you were in while watching you work on this new piece. The fact that it was such a big piece really drew me in. It really felt calm, the kind of creative calm that I always love to get into when I work on my own art. It was quite a powerful energy that just seeped through the screen. It was magical. Thank you for this long episode this week, it was totally worth it!

Lovely vid as per usual; they have a cool feel, as if we are actually there with you in the studio.
I have my best thinking moments in the car, on long trips: switch off the radio/ spotify and after half an hour the chatter in my head dies out and a natural flow starts. I don't know if that also put me in the mood to create, although it does sometimes lead to ideas for paintings. That said, the opposite is definately true: the monkey brain is my creativity killer. I've been (way too) busy these last few weeks and as such, have hardly done any painting. Hope to be doing some later today/ this weekend. And... I hope to land a commisioned work also. We'll see. First tune out the monkey brain! Have a nice weekend.

I really appreciate the things you say, I am a new artist and I’m really trying to learn art theory and ideal lifestyle to produce projections of my deep imagination. I try to take a free hour or two to do NOTHING and it has made my journey more interesting. Thank you for that!
Ideas often come from the subconscious, but you have to give them a chance to get through. When I had difficult problems that I couldn't find an immediate solution to, I would wake up at night and have a solution.

You talk about painting birds in the sky. May I make a suggestion? Use a one inch flat brush or smaller wet with neutral tint or
Paynes Grey. With your forefinger at the feral end at center of the bristle, squeeze each side of the bristle with your thumb and middle finger to form a “V” or “U”. Touch your dry painting. But on a scrap piece of paper -- Practice, practice and practice. Alter each bird with white wing tips or white head. Have a great weekend and week ahead. Love your work!😊

What a pleasure to have a look into your life as an artist. It is very inspiring.
I have a question which i can only hope you could share your thoughts on. I actually found your channel because i have picked up watercolour as a new medium of expression. I have mostly been drawing up until now.
I am wondering how to approach developing the skills to actually express my vision in a beautiful manner. Overall i see two distinct routes appearing. One is to simply just paint without knowing really what i am doing and why i am doing it - like i toddler without a parent. The result for now is a style that looks like it wants to be painted with oils or acrylics rather than watercolours. Layer uppon layer uppon layer. It is fun to do, yet the result reflects the lack in charity of skills in execution.
The other route i see is trying to learn techniques from other painters- zbukvich, alvaro, you etc etc. I see the quality of learning these techniques clearly in the beauty of the pictures made by masters. This route will inevitably put me in the drill of making endless paintings of striving to do something that others do better. Ofcourse because your are trying to do something which other do naturally for them selves.
I know that you do not put emphasis on technique for expression and that is the reason why to will not to tutorials. But still what is the right approach to learning technique vs free expression what one is just getting into the medium of watercolour?
I must add just as a comment that watercolour is really something of a challenge to get into. It shows the limitations of the artist in a very direct and honest manner.
