Titus, you have no need whatsoever in having to apologize for your translation of your feelings with regards to your fine craft. I, myself, find our feelings so closely related in both of our native languages. Throughout many of your videos, I have noticed that you frequently make mention of your finding or receiving 'presents'. Each time I hear you reference them, my mind immediately translates the very same to be something I refer to as 'gifts' in my life.
Today, your main topic is Ideas and how they are the sustenance with which we must continually fill our refrigerator of life in order to create. These ideas come not to us through complacency, but only through our active pursuit out in the real world. The use of our ideas, be they small or large, the most simple to the most strange are all presents/gifts which contribute to our new creations and what we receive is the ultimate pleasure that brings meaning to our existence. We are so grateful for these gifts that there is no room in our hearts or minds to resent the use of our gifts/creations. Only the pleasure in knowing that they have been enjoyed and appreciated.
And the cycle goes round and round, only to be repeated. Just as the globe continues to turn and the sun rises and sets, bringing the dawn of a new day full of a multitude of ideas and treasures to be found and new gifts to be found, created and given.
These are all of the reasons we see you as you share your thoughts and your constant multitasking in all of the facets of your creations and the joy you receive in the precise, confident, concise manner in which you do everything from your brilliant brushwork to your meticulous book signing and packing to your masterful framing to your incredible videography to your ability to go back and forth from one watercolor to another and move seemingly effortlessly on to an oil painting in progress (I think that even I could smell the paint 😂🎨). Simply genius. Not an exquisite moment wasted.
Yes sir, your refrigerator will always be full. Because you make the conscious choices and effort it requires to seek out the ideas. And you have even expanded your search to include your podcasts and sharing ideas with others who have very valuable presents/gifts/ideas to share. The world is our oyster 😊 Complacency is not an option.
Your gift is what you are selling, which is a direct result of the creation that comes from the compilation of your incredible ideas, your exquisite skills and your fine craftwork which enables you to live a comfortable, joyful and fulfilling life.
I hope that I have interpreted your words which are so lovely to listen to as you generously and genuinely share your thoughts with us.

I fully understand your feelings / philosophy on the essence of the origin of what we create - the "idea". I spent a career in engineering focus mostly on microprocessors and systems on a chip - work on shared ideas. But then when I retired the creator in me kept seeking new ideas. I built custom furniture that I designed, small boats, and many other things. People could copy what I had created, but the original thoughts were all my own and this was the real value. The copiers could not recreate that idea. Someone could forge one of your paintings, but they did not have the idea that allowed it to exist in the first place.
Where things come from... the Source...important to stay very close to the Source...
Well said. We are like receptors of Awe and when those Awe moments happen, Art happens: music, painting, novels-purpose wrapped in joy.
Maintaining connection to the Source by being childlike, being curious is key. This is the essence from which everything flows. The title "Take care of your Idea" caught my attention bcoz that itself can be the challenge esp for beginners. Thank you for the well spoken thoughts! 🌱
I think the watercolor you finished today is my favorite so far, the one with the red car, lady in blue, and huge street lamp in the foreground. It is light, it is colorful, it makes me feel good.

Sometimes my ideas for a painting come from words, poetry, lyrics. All creates images in my mind. I often think of a title before I paint the painting.

your videos are such a joy to watch. I admire your work so much. I think selling art is so much more than just paint, paper and skill. Each artist has their own unique method of working, perspective, and style. This is why many people will collect multiple pieces from one artist, if they are drawn to their particular style.

There are no rules in art...whatever it takes to produce what you want is all that matters. I see artist who are against using photos etc, "well everyone is entitled to their opinion". I don't care how you create your paintings, they are incredible and I know you do paint from life once in a while, however, I know plenty of artists who paint strictly from life but they don't hold a candle to your work. Most of the best paintings are created in the studio...Keep doing what you're doing.

hello Titus,i have been painting for 28 years now,i paint small mostly ,9x12 or 8x10.i have filled so many watercolor sketch books its so fun,you are my favorite .i paint alone in my apt,i call it my art studio.i love the way you speak and share ,your heart seems so kind,your children are beautiful ,i started when my 2 boys went off to school i was 36 ,im 64 now and paint everyday ,it brings me joy,thank you for everything
It’s wonderful to hear you speak about what goes through your mind when you approach a painting. Your ideas go on a cavas or piece of paper. That because a permanent part of you. Someone will pay for it and it becomes theirs, so they take the painting and hang it on a wall somewhere in the world. But what you realize, and I have never thought of, is that they take a part of you with them. You are represented every time someone sees this artwork that another person paid for. Love hearing your thoughts, they are so outside the box as the old saying goes. Beautiful video!!🙏🏼💙

I like these philosophical thoughts of yours. You're right, you don't sell paper. But you also don't sell your time because just sitting in the studio is not going to get you anywhere. Your paintings are a product of your skills and ideas leading to the final action. Without your action there will be nothing of use. So in the end artists are some kind of action stars with original ideas.

You’re right, in my part an ART is not only a only, for example paintings (& etc. ), the feelings you have in that Art you’ve done, no one can buy it but that piece of Art you can sell it. I met some professional artist who (stocked ) piled their artworks in their home because they said they cannot let them go. Like separating from the half of their heart. Thanks for your show. Learned a lot.

Staying close the the source might be described as "being in the flow state" to many English speakers. I can tell you are very relaxed when you made this video. I get that way when I make a lot of art, read a lot of books and go for a lot of walks in nature. Cheers, from Nelson, BC, Canada

I smiled during your visit with the framer because you two were viewing a blue mat for your painting and you both had blue shirts on that appeared to be the same blue! Great Stuff! Only trouble is when I get on a painting roll and I'm eating off a saucepan lid....it's time to wash up! Keeping my paint brushes clean is far more important. People have no idea how difficult it can be to be a full-time artist, the cost of materials is outrageous. I've taught art at universities and have had no problem sharing my idea's. If people do well I'm extremely happy for them. If you have confidence in your own work, nobody is going to use those ideas successfully. Titus is a fabulous painter. By painting on You tube he is sharing ideas however not many people have that hard earned competence. Amazing artist, so enjoyable watching him paint! ❤❤❤

I eally liked watching you paint the large watercolor abd see it blossom. Large lantern on the building was interesting to see how you achieved it. Ideas come to me when outdoors too, but trying to decide is the difficult part. So many beautiful things, one would never have enough time. Inspiring as always! 😊
I watched several sessions from your studio some time ago. I am not a professional artist. But I earned to do my art from the books of great artists. Art is very
complex process. A person actually has to be born or made to be …A specially when the art is source of living. The main trick is to find a CONNECTION :eye,brain, brush .
And to make a connection for me it’s very timing and painful process. And every new piece is a new approach. Of course you find your own unique way, and I was glad to see that I am not alone…!😊

You really have such a beautiful way of shaping the abstract feelings and emotions that go on inside the mind of a person, an artist specifically, into words.
And those words are some that I needed to hear. It's not often that I am moved by someone's words, but yours have really resonated with my recent mindset about myself and art.
However, I do struggle with keeping that force near me at times. It seems to come and go, rather than be there always. But I will take your wisdom of having a refrigerator full of ideas to keep me busy and working. Hopefully that will help motivate me to keep creating even when I feel empty.

Trying new paths mostly start with messing it up. I think it's important to take time for that regurarly. Combined with some persistence we will learn new things

In Spanish the word "fuente" means "fountain" and "source". We shoud stay close to the fuente.

Преди години не ценях своя труд и идеи. Имах възможност да изрисувам стени в домовете на не до там познати хора. Къде за пари, къде като подарък от мен, къде просто за да не скучая, ако пребивавам по-дълго някъде. Такъв беше случая с една възрастна двойка, чийто навес изрисувах с пасторален сюжет по техен избор. Наскоро научих, че хората са опазили картината 25 години, но новият собственик е съборил и тази стена при преустройството на дома . За другите си ,,деца,, не зная дори толкова. Да, ,,деца,, . И то сякаш ,,деца , оставени в дом за сираци,,. Признавам, че слушайки те, дори си поплаках. Извини ненужното ми откровение, но от първото ти видео, което видях, те чувствам като близък човек, сродна душа или нещо подобно... Пази се и пази ,,децата,,. Hi Titus from South Africa - as aways, a pleasure viewing your hard work. I found your discussion on your views on how you value the work (the artistic object/product) verses the 'source' of the artist expression. If I understood you correctly - you feel that what is more important for a creative, is the creative 'source', not the creative object so much. As if you as the creative retain a constant 'link' (relationship) with the 'source' - then the creative output is only the result of the creative relationship with the source and therefore the overshadows the creative output. Therefore, so long as the creative focusses on the source - the inspirational triggers, then all the rest of the process is simply mechanically outputting what the 'source' offers. I wish to politely differ with you.
Yes, that feeling of being in synergy/at one with a creative stream of super-consciousness is an essential part of being a creative. It's like having an out of body experience. So many factors are at play when a creative unconsciously connects with their higher creative conscious - all the senses are involved, including intuition - that super sixth sense. To tune in is difficult, but once you are entrained to 'fall' into 'creative flow', its becomes a precious and valued sensation. So I can understand that a creative prioritises that relationship - as without that relationship there is no work of any value. However, the work itself - the result of that special creative relationship with the 'source' is also very important and valuable. As each creative develops an individual signature why of applying marks. It's almost like a form of shorthand. Those distinctive marks - made by the creatives hand while under the trans-like state of being in creative 'flow' are the very means the creative translates what is given to them from the sub-conscious state of being in flow - without which no ex[ptression in their creative output would be possible. The end client - the lover of the work - can subconsciously read back through those very unique creative marks what was given to the creative. So the marks, which make up the creative output are very important and valuable - as no two creatives ever make the same mark. The marks made are as unique as one fingerprint. Therefore I feel that the value between the creatives relationship with the 'source' and the resultant expressive output are equally important - as the one feeds off the other - theses a partnership between the creative muse (the source) and the inspired output (the work). So I feel that due to that relationship thye output which is the product of the relationship, should be treasured, respected and valued. Creatives can take many years to marry a distinctive fluid library of marks (their creative signature) so that it is true to expressing the ideas (the creative source). Therefore the artist/creative must value their output and not allow others take their output for granted - i.e. illegally reproducing work in whatever fashion. We live in an era in which it is very easy to make high quality duplications of work and profits from such duplication. Therefore the creative should like in any other form of business, protect how their creative output is used, copied or sold. We as creatives have very powerful legal tools to protect our work and should take advantage of those legal protections. Artists should form guilds that prompt protection of creative output and to support emerging artists and aging artists. One of my views is that all sales of artists work should be subject to a creative tax - a percentage of the sale should go towards a national creative trust that both supports emerging artists and artists that either fall on bad times due to sickness or severe market disruptions or artists that retire.
Every time a work is resold at auction or through a gallery a surcharge should go towards such artists support. That includes all the most famous works that go onto auction at stellar prices. That way the creative is always valued and the work has value, as it continuously supports a growing stream of creatives.
Thank you. Sure, the result is important. But for me; First things first. I mean selfcare, being aware, doing what you need to do and not what we must do are the start. The result is a memory of this.
It was windy here as well in the south west UK on Tuesday morning. I did recognised the noise on your video of the Police Airbus H135 helicopter flying in circles over the Koninklijk Huisarchief between about 11:45 and midday that morning.

I guessed it was that windy Tuesday morning so I looked at previous flight tracks on Flightradar24 near your studio. I did recognise the H135 on your video, they make a distinctive sound and I also thought it was probably a police helicopter going around in circles.

I enjoyed watching the you tube video. The two watercolors in this video are really impressive. Nice work. Looking forward to the next video. It's not easy to get into a gallery, although for some of us mediocre artists it's easier to post work online like Saatchi, fine art America, or Instagram.

You are talking about the forming of the price? It is so subjective. It is nearly impossible to determine. But there are some indicators. The time is important, how much time did it take you, but there are pure masterpieces that happen in a split second once in a (long enough) while. It is much more often though then the Olympics, for sure. Next - materials. Third - average price your coleagues think is acceptable. You don't need to repeat it, but is good to concieder what might be a good selling price. Your pride will not suffer too much if you decide on that just for the try. Forth - how much are others ready to spend on art. The last one is the most unpleasant to think of. I am not ready to spend money for anything if I don't have them. How should I think of others how they feel about it. I was collecting stamps as a child and I know by myself. If I want something and I like it a lot I find a way to have it. Bargaining - this is the other thing to concieder. Just have it in mind it may happen and prepare for it. And not selling is not (allways) your fault. The gallery might be new, the place not well known, not enough funding, etc. Can be anything. I hate even thinking of it. So much work to make the paintings, now even more on top. Enough is enough. :)

Thank you! The canvas was already prepared for oil and acrylics. But I prefer a warm undertone in stead of the hard bright white. So I mix a warm grey with acrylics and gesso.

Yes, of course I am! He was a kind of my hero during the years at the art academy. An art dealer close to the student house where I was living those days, he sold several Breitners. I often came there and watched those amazing paintings through the window
